Good layout but lacks excitement 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 19, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

--The park itself is a beautiful, open landscape with a variety of lush, mature trees, scenic ponds, and a large, historic barn. Evening rounds here with the setting sun are spectacular.
-- Fisher is the best course in Dayton if you want experience playing in the wind.
-- The flow of the course is very natural, and once there's adequate signage in place, it will be easy to navigate.
--Course length will challenge your distance, but OB road, paths, and ponds will keep you honest, especially on the shorter holes. I wouldn't consider any of the OBs unfair or gimmicky; they're all reasonable and manageable and they add good difficulty and shot choice.

Cons:

--The baskets "need" replaced. The baskets are now the oldest in Dayton, holdovers from the previous layout before the course was re-done. The baskets themselves are actually in good shape for their age; they have typical rust, but the chains and trays are holding up just fine. They're just an outdated design. Not sure what they are, maybe old Mach IIs or Chainstars? Either way, they don't catch terribly well.
--Lack of tee signs. This is a new layout, opened in Aug 2021, and things take time. Tee signs are on the way, so that will up the course's rating, but for now, it's a con for sure.
--Lack of other amenities - benches, trash cans, good bathrooms. Again, all in good time.
--Lack of elevation. Not much you can do here, it's a flat park.
--The biggest con: It's just kind of boring. The course and course par were designed with a 20 mph wind in mind but if it's calm, the course is uneventful. Unless you can throw a controlled 450' on the regular, what you end up doing is throwing wide open 100+' upshots over and over again. The course is too long to be a challenging par 3, and too short to be a fun par 4. It's just right in the middle dead zone where you might have some fun off the tee, but everything else is just meh.

Other Thoughts:

Designers did a great job redesigning the course without changing the feel of the old course. It's a good use of the land and the layout makes sense, just needs some tweaking of the distances. Could benefit from multiple tee pads that bring distances out of the NAGS range.

Good new layout

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 11, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Good use of OB to add challenge to some of the shorter holes
-New concrete tee pads, but not a huge fan of the texture
-Good use of available obstacles and water for challenge.
-Good mix of short and long holes.
-Lots of parking
-Multiple pin positions for most of the holes and are changed regularly
-Fresh new discatchers installed
-As of 12/11/22, all tee signs are in!

Cons:

-Most holes are based in open fields.
-Bathrooms are out of the way, near the 18th hole
-This course is very affected by the wind

Other Thoughts:

My past review complained about the lack of signage, but following Thanksgiving 2022 all of the beautiful new tee signs are in! Mounted on massive stones, they look fantastic! The distances and pars are now much more realistic. This is now a solid course with good maintenance that allows for a few all out bombs as well as the stress of close water shots.
