Peshti-New-Go 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 3, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course has been upgraded with another 9 holes, making a Good Fun 18 Hole DGC at Badger Park (2019)

Design makes good use of the Coniferous Lowland area for the new stuff (Holes 3-12) Great mix of Cedar, Hemlock, White and Red Pines

Fairways stay away from the Wetspots... except for 6 & 11. 6 is the Best hole back there as it puts some Water into Play :) 11 is the Best Long Tee so far, as it Throws over Water, and then there's a sweet Boardwalk to Cross the Water

The old Park holes (1 2 13 15 16 17 18) are a nice change from the tight Coniferous Woods. Lots of Oldgrowth Pines still, but more 'Airout' Style shots

New Crushed Stone Tees & New Teesigns

Good signage to aid in Navigation, first Tee next to Parking Lot

Long Teepads installed on several Holes, with more in the plans

Fun Disc Golf, especially when the Putter is hunting Birdies

Cons:

6s Basket needs to be moved back to the Mound, just before the Water. This should be the Signature Hole, utilizing both bodies of water. This would add to the Aesthetics of the hole, making a Memorable signature Green

4s Basket should also get moved back on a Mound, Towards the Water more... especially with 3 4 & 5 being pretty Similar from the Shorts already

12s Basket could be Moved back into the Woods, that are already Cleaned up, and that would also get it off the Pedestrian Trail

Some people aren't fans of the Tees, especially the one facing the wrong direction... it's Hole 16! :p

Old guys would like more Benches

Other Thoughts:

Light Side / Dark Side type Design:
Holes are either Park Style, playing in around the Oldgrowth Pines... or Shaping short tight lines in heavy Coniferous Woods

It'd be nice to see some more variety, but the Designers were limited in the New Woods, as the initial goal was to be minimally invasive... but it appears that some local has gone through and taken out a lot of Cedars/Hemlocks. Premature and Hasty in my opinion. Should wait and see how the DG traffic/play effects the Woods, before unnecessarily taking down Trees on a new course

15 & 17s Teepad areas are by the building

Not much Elevation, but what's there is used well

Park area of the Course has the original 9 Baskets yet, so Nevermind the Numbers on those Bands :)

Jones and Shuie have the new player in mind, with Badgers course design. Maybe two holes over 300ft. The Oldest guy in our group Won today, so this DGC apparently plays fair for all :)

18 Holes!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 18, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 Holes and a few brand new baskets! Pretty challenging technical shots in some thick woods with a couple of water hazards. Beautiful little park with lots of wildlife and a nice playground for the kids. Bathrooms by the parking lot. Free to play was nice too.

Cons:

No course map and holes are a little tricky to find but they have bright flags to look for and some signs up with directions. Dirt/mud tee pads and it gets pretty soggy in the woods. Bugs weren't terrible for the middle of September.

Other Thoughts:

Working up north for two weeks we played in Marinette for a week and decided to try something new. Drove to badger thinking we were just going to play a quick easy 9 holes. After the 2nd hole we could tell there were more than 9 baskets. The majority of the holes are in a pretty thick forest and under 250 ft.

Very nice since the redesign 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The redesign has made this a course that I'll play on a regular basis. Previous layout had several baskets playing very near high use areas. Making it almost unplayable in the summer. Not a long course, with only one hole that I felt like I needed to really put some heat on my drive. It mostly plays as a shorter technical course, in my opinion. Some nice risk / reward holes that give you a tight line to follow. Thumbs up to the redesigners.

Cons:

Shorter than most courses but definitely makes better use of the space than before. The tee signs could use an update to more accurately detail the hole. Natural tee areas. No real elevation change throughout the park but it is common for small parks in the area.

Short, but decent. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 10, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole course set up in Badger Park in Peshtigo, WI. Pesthigo Flowage is across the road and makes for a nice backdrop.

Discatcher baskets, all in good repair and caught well. 1 and 3 share the same basket. One position per hole.

A good number of mature trees make up the difficulty here. You will be forced to shape a couple lines, but every hole had at least one solid path to the basket.

Good signage that explained each hole and had distance as well. Navigation wasn't too difficult once you realize Hole 1 is across the road. Decent flow.

Cons:

Natural tee pads. They were in decent enough shape, guess....they weren't really outlined. You just kind of throw from near the sign.

The park was busy the day I was there, and I had to be VERY careful. There's a big children's play area just to the right of the last holes. Also, holes 1-3 play somewhat close the campground, and could cause some issues. Be careful.

The course is pretty short. I played it with a putter and mid, and didn't feel like I needed anything else.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice little beginner course, or a decently fun spin if you're camping adjacent. Kudos for that.

If you're a more experienced thrower, and have extra time on your hands, go play Marinette.

2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 21, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is set up in a well maintained multi-use park. The baskets are discatchers not Mach 3's like it says on here. These were all in good shape and caught fine. The flow is actually pretty easy once you figure out where hole 1 is. The course is flat but there are trees to contend with on every hole at least. There is ample parking, restrooms, many other park activities on site and is free to play. The course is also in ground year round which is nice. the course wouldn't ever seem to be too busy either as far as other disc golfers. Tees are natural and were ok.

Cons:

The first 3 holes criss cross each other causing a safety issue. These also are right next to the camping area and may even be unplayable in mid summer, busy season. Not much variation in distances. Tees are not the best.

Other Thoughts:

Not worth any type of drive out of your way to play. Just an average kind of park course.

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 29, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Badger Park is a short, flat pitch and putt course that has discatcher baskets, nice tee signs with distance and hole diagram, and is easy to navigate. The course is moderately wooded with mature trees to navigate on every hole. The course is pretty short with most of the holes in the 160 to 230 foot range. There is one longer hole that's almost 300 feet and is a big hyzer shot. Otherwise most of the baskets are straight ahead, one hole was a slight turnover shot, but there are multiple routes through the trees on some holes.

Cons:

There are dirt tee pads which are far too close to the basket on the previous hole which is a safety concern. The first few holes seem pretty close to the campgrounds. Overall the course feels kinda crammed into the space.

Course is very short and shot selection isn't that great, one hyzer, one anhyzer, and the rest are straight ahead.

Other Thoughts:

This pitch and putt course is a good for kids, families and beginners and there are plenty enough trees to provide a good challenge for them.

Once you've been playing for a while there isn't any challenge here.

Safety an issue, but fun shots and a great park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Nice large park, lots of old growth woods on the property, an incredibly large jungle gym, campgrounds, etc. Add in disc golf and we have a winner.
2) Bathrooms available in the middle of the course and accessible from almost anywhere because this is such a small area.
3) Signs with Hole #, Par, Distance, Sponsors, and a map of the hole.
4) #'d Discatchers are great for wooded courses because it makes finding the basket so much easier.
5) There is pretty good flow between holes.
6) This is definitely a beginner friendly course with the shorter overall length of the holes.
7) The holes are designed well in terms of disc golf, challenge, shot shaping, etc so the disc golf is actually pretty enjoyable . . . if the park is empty and you are all alone out there.
8) Minor elevation changes mostly in terms of rolling terrain.

Cons:

1) Hole #1, 2, 3, are very close to camping . . . so much so I aimed way out to the side to avoid the vehicles parked next to #1 basket, and halfway up the fairway by #2. Teeing off on #3 was intimidating as it felt like I was in someone's living room. They were tearing down their tent to get ready to go home and it just felt a little awkward like I was infringing on someone's personal space even though we both have a right to the space in the park.
2) Hole #4 has a path crossing it, but the path is virtually blind from the tee, it is marked on the sign and a distance is stated to clear the path, but you will not see anyone on the path coming from the left because it is surrounded by dense woods. It would be too late if someone stuck their head out around the corner after you have thrown. Dangerous and avoidable.
3) No actual marking for the tee area, sure there is a post but are we allowed 5 feet on either side of the post? It makes a big difference on a couple holes. So I was consistent and simply went to the right side of the post everytime and was within 5 feet of the post, and I called that my tee.
4) Grass/dirt tees are always a negative in my book because they are inconsistent especially under differing weather conditions.
5) Distance variation is not that great. There are some in the upper 100's and some in the lower 200's with only one coming near 300' It would have been nice if they could have opened up 1 or 2 of the holes a little bit to get more distance.
6) There are also a few areas where tees are cloe to the previous basket and would be dangerous. I was alone on the course so i didn't have to worry about it.

Other Thoughts:

While the flow is great, the layout of those first holes should be changed, and from the looks of the park, there is plenty of great wooded space to the left of Hole #3 and #4 and again across the path behind the tee on #5 and the basket on #6. I could easily see this park fitting in 18 holes total. Move up the tee on #3 and call that #1, then go into the woods for a handful of holes, removing the dangerous #4, and then playing #5 and #6 and going back into the other section of woods and then coming out to finish on #7, 8 and 9.

Putters only please! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 27, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice Discatcher baskets. Lots of other nice park stuff for the non-disc golfers. Fine bathroom and other park facilities. The course is better than none at all, and is mostly appropriate for beginners.

Cons:

Cons: Tee designated only by tee sign on 4x4. The course is mostly a "random path shot through the big trees."
This course is too crowded to an unsafe extent. Tees are too close to goals, and hole #1 is too close to both campers and hole #2. The otherwise decent hole #4 throws a RHBH hyzer blindly into a trail where I observed both dog walkers and a kid on his bike. A RHBH hyzer that turns over hard on hole #8 heads for the kiddie playground. On a cool fall Thursday morning the playground was very busy.

Other Thoughts:

This is a short course in a nice, very trimmed, city park that has many other activities. Holes are beginner length running through and under large trees. Some holes have grass and others are bare ground.
Start and stop at opposite ends of parking lot.
Apparently the park has 57 acres, but only about 20 appeared to be in use. The park should quit putting so many park users at risk and develop some of the woodlands for a proper disc golf course. This was my first course played of three close 9-holers. The other two being at Marinette and Oconto. It got better!

HOLE NOTES:
#1 Needs L mando from #2 tee. Too close to campers.
#2 Plays through #1 goal.
#3 OK a random path shot through the big trees.
#4 Tee inside #3 putting circle! Plays blind over bike and walking path.
#5 Tee right at edge of putting circle. "random path shot through the big trees."
#6 Again, tee right at edge of putting circle. "random path shot through the big trees."
#7 Tee only 8M from #6 goal. Plays through Charcoal grill. "random path shot through the big trees."
#8 Tee right at edge of #7 fairway. A turnover on the RHBH hyzer route goes into the playground. or "random path shot through the big trees."
#9 Tee inside #8 putting circle. A bit more open "random path shot through the big trees."

Passable, REPETITIVE, blah - that makes it poor 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Innova discatchers - these rock and eat putts from a RHBH player if you hit the right side (see my score, 7 deuces)
Signs were nice and they had a hole diagram and distance displayed.
Hole #4 is the closest to variety you get at this park. Requires you to punch through some tight large trees and sweep a hard left turn to a pin ~300' away.
Hole #3 has a tiny bit of elevation.
The entire park is wooded, under a canopy of huge white pines. It is a nice city park feel.
There is a great wooden playset at the park, awesome for those with kids.

Cons:

Repetition - same hole after hole, after hole. All you do is throw 150-240' shots through the huge pines. There is almost always a look straight at the pin, but you could go left or right just as easily, or you could s-curve a RHFH around the trees and park it just about every time. Putter, buzzz, and mabe a sidearm disc if you choose, that's all you need to throw -9 here (I missed #2 and #4).
The location is busy. Right across from the schools, bordered by two roads, a large popular playground in the park, and also a campground adjacent to hole #1.
There is almost no elevation.
No water hazards and no defined OB, but roads could come into play.
This niner lacks a lot in terms of variety. 8 of 9 holes are essentially the same, that doesn't leave much for those who desire variety, balance, and uniqueness.

Other Thoughts:

What could have been???
Look at the woods off to the left of holes 1, 2, 3, 4. Imagine some nicely designed and created holes carved through there.
All in all the course fills a beginner city park niche. Advance players will find it MONOTONOUS and boring. It is definitely passable, and it's not really on the way to any destination course. If you're bored on a weekday and want to check some courses off your list, you can play here, Marinette, and Oconto. Oconto is the best by far.

Let's get technical 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 12, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Let's first talk about the evolution of this course. Started out as an extremely dangerous 9 hole course thrown around other park activities mainly some picnic areas, band shell and a rather large playscape. After this monstrosity caused much issue with other park goers, this course was destined for the graveyard but, as luck would have it, a local and myself got taxed with making a more optimal minimalist to the maximus approach. Thus, a some what decent course was established with out approaching on the other park activities. Flash forward 10 year, course is doing well. Peshtigo park and Recreation are very pleased with the course and have decided to expand to 18.

The course at Badger park has almost two different feels to it, the 7 open parks style holes that have a few massive pines to navigate and the 11 wooded and technical holes. For the most part you got every type of shot here, straight shots, doglegs left and right of varying degrees. One hole is 300 and the majority be 230 and under. The course even offers a bit of water, as you shoot over a 10' wide creek/drainage ditch. Badger park doesn't really offer any elevation, the course plays mainly flat with one little wrinkle as you play in and out of the heavily wooded area. Course boast a decent amount of amenities, seasonal bathrooms w/ water fountain, crushed gravel tee pads, decent tee signs, benches tossed in here and there, and a few directional signs to help you when navigation gets tricky. Tee signs where decent gave you hole number, distance and general flight path. Some holes have extra tees that add more length to them(3,4,5 and 13). Local club is slowly working on improving this course, several other holes will be adding longer pads and/or additional pin placements.

Cons:

Tee pads are crushed gravel not the most level, short holes make up for not really needing a run up. Also, a few pads are angled wonky and not quite facing the basket. On busy holidays holes 2 and 18 maybe tough to play, campers on 2 and kids plating on 18.

Other Thoughts:

The Peshtigo river is right across the street so the swim area is close. Makes for great place to toss a quick nine, grill out, cool off in the river and then head to Marinette during the hot summer months. Also, camping is available right by the course.

not bad; worth dual play with marinette 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 4, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

#4 is 280 foot with an extreme back handed/right handed heiser dogleg; takes very good shot to have deuce putt. Most holes between 200 and 260 foot; but large trees; especially tall pines guard all pins. Peshtigo River nearby. Good signage; easy to navigate. I played barefoot with no worries; well maintained and groomed course. No one else on course.

Cons:

Dirt tees. Campers and/or picnicers in play #1 and #9. It was July 4th and I don't believe this would normally be the case. Camping immediately next to course would usually be a plus.

Other Thoughts:

Wouldn't make a special trip for this nine; but worth your while combined with Marinette City Park; just up the road in Marinette. That one is a quality course.
