Pros:
Quick and easy to walk. Good shot variety. Great use of the land. More challenging than it looks.
Cons:
It's in a water runoff so when there's even a little rain it gets real sloppy. When there's a big rain it's unplayable. Some of the tees are in rough shape(the course is getting up there in years). Gets a little trashy and overgrown at times. Public park between the high school and junior high so teens tend to congregate there. No course map, but each tee has an engraving on it showing the hole layout. It can still be hard to navigate without a local.
Other Thoughts:
This is the first course in Big Spring. So it's been around a while. 18 pads to 9 baskets. First tee is close to the parking lot and the hole plays north to south. From #1 basket the course plays generally clockwise back to #10 tee pad, which is close to #1 pad. Then the back nine plays generally counter clockwise back around to #1 basket which is also #18 basket. So 1/18 share a basket, 2/17 share, 3/13, 4/15, 5/14, 6/16, 7/11, 8/10, 9/12. Difficult until you've played it a few times. However, the shot variety is great and you have a few longer holes mixed in with mostly technical shots. Hole 1 is pretty straight forward with a playground that is OB short and right and the OB road behind. @200'. 2 is @200 and plays slightly downhill with the basket under large trees with overhanging branches. 3 is @250 with trees all along the left and a slight slope right of the basket. Basket is guarded on all sides by trees. 4 is about 205 with trees left, in front and right of the basket and OB behind. Also a power pole is in the middle of the fairway you have to navigate. Nice little righty spike hyzer shot. 5 is short but plays right with OB left and trees with overhanging branches right. Tunnel shot or skip shot. 6 is guarded by large trees in front and both sides of the fairway. Another righty hyzer. 7 is 325' and has trees right and left of the basket. Open fairway to a tight approach. 8 is lefty tunnel shot or a righty anny/forehand. Basket is under trees with overhanging branches. @260'. 9 is about 225' with the basket under large trees. It has an approach left, right and overhead. 10 plays about 250' with a slight dogleg at the basket. Guarded by trees down the left side of the fairway and right. 11 is the longest hole on the course. @425'. Wide open fairway, with a tight approach to the basket which is tucked inside the trees to the right. 12 is @380', wide open fairway to the basket surrounded by trees. 13 is350'. Basket is guarded on all sides by trees. Trees overhead and right of the tee pad. 14...if you can't bomb your drive @340' to the right of the trees, or you aren't a lefty, the only shot is a big thumber or tomohawk. Trees are about 75' tall. Basket has OB behind. 15 plays slight uphill and @350'.Basket is guarded by trees in front and OB behind. 16 is a lefty tunnel shot, dogleg left to right. About 300'. 17 is another tunnel from the tee. Basket is under trees with overhanging branches. 18 plays from under trees to about 325'. OB right of the basket and the playground is OB. This course is a little tougher than it looks. All together it's a fun little course.
