Pros:
+ The course takes place in a clean and comfortable public park with several fun water features and a few noticeable elevation changes.
+/- Tee signs are basic but present and effective.
+ Concrete tees are flat and sturdy, but...
Cons:
- ...The tees are on the small side.
-/+ The course is bit simple.
- It is often unclear where to go next after several baskets.
- Many of the fairways throw very close to and/or across walking paths, benches and other park structures.
Other Thoughts:
The disc golf course at Bloomsburg Town Park is a pretty place. The grounds are very well maintained, and there are some nice fairways. Link8 is my favorite one to look at for its downhill piney tunnel. To be sure, most of the rest of the course is either wide open or has park-style tree cover. Link14 is a nice example of scenery merging with challenge. Even a pretty tree can block your throws. As a whole, this place has short fairways, open approaches and mostly flat ground. That makes it just right for beginners... kind of.
It's difficult to prove that when five of the fairways have water right alongside them the whole time with another four or five finishing close to a lake. Link16 was my favorite one here for that exact reason. The Susquehanna River is right there to the left. It adds a nice dimension of tension to the fairway. Plus, there is a deep gash in the terrain that threatens to gobble up your drive. Links like those are fun for experienced players. However, newer players might find them stressful, and there are four of those river fairways here.
Another thing about this course that makes it kind of not a beginner-friendly beginners' course is the presence of park and civic structures throughout. The river fairways that I just mentioned also have roads right alongside them, which only adds more stress and hesitation to a throw. Link2, my least favorite one to play here, has you throw uncomfortably close to a playground, in between a bunch of benches and picnic tables and then finishes close to another park bench and a traffic intersection. Link3 isn't much better because it throws overhead of walking paths and literally around a building. If you choose to play here, be sure of your aim and have patience.
What I am trying to say is that the course seems like it wants to attract beginners with the short distances and relatively light obstacles within the fairways, but the external obstacles of the river, park structures, roads and so on could potentially discourage those players. It is a weird combination of easy disc golfing and challenging external factors.
If you are a beginner, I can still recommend this course to you. Just be aware of your capabilities, don't be bashful about taking small throws, and wait for all traffic (both pedestrian and motor vehicle) to clear before throwing.
If you are experienced, I can still recommend this course for its tense links by the river and the park's lake. Just remember to take it down a notch or you'll accidentally give your driver to a guppy.
Are there guppies in the Susquehanna?
