Temporary Gem

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 29, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

In terms of what a temporary course on a golf course can and should be, while this is not as epic as some you will see in the Pro Tour or the Boomtown course in Canton this was a fantastic play and very well constructed.

Put into play by the Prodigy team for their Star Series finale they created a layout that would test many players and provide some challenge even for players of high caliber.

I was not lucky enough to get off work to play the practice day so my two tournament rounds were my only impression of this course. As I pulled up you could see the property was beautiful. The old brick clubhouse well maintained and with open restrooms for the players, ample parking since they host large events often.

The time of the year was definitely advantageous from a beauty perspective. Against the misty grey sky in the morning and dormant grass of the fairways the changing and falling leaves were bright and near lurid in comparison.

The course uses mainly the golf tee boxes as pads, with a few natural zones and cart paths as well. The golf greens played as OB, and the many bunkers that dot some of the holes are hazards.

There is also a winding creek that comes into play heavy on the back 9, as well a two ponds that you primarily deal with on 8&9.

Baskets were all prodigy T2s and while not permanent they were all in good repair and balanced properly.

Standout holes to me were 2- a long par for starting with a wide double mando and ending up a steep hill, 7-a downhill shot with the basket nestled between two bunkers and the OB green just behind and the two par 5s one near 900ft and well uphill for the last 300 and the other around 800 with OB and hazards all over the place near the basket.

With OB on almost every hole and the mix of length and hazards the course plays as very attackable, especially for bigger arms, but control is paramount as there are many potential pitfalls.

Cons:

The fact that it's a temporary course makes some of these givens but since it's primarily a golf course there are no disc golf amenities. No benches, or maps other than what was provided by the TD.

A few of the OBs were a little difficult to decipher and causes some discourse, but that happens are most tournaments.

There were a couple of holes that could have been made more intense, but due to needing flat areas for temp baskets they couldn't use them.

Overall a really good effort, I'm struggling to find more negatives.

Other Thoughts:

A really fun play in a beautiful setting, overall very well run event. I hope we are able to see more events there with a similar layout!

Possibly one of the most exclusive courses in the country since not only was it only open for 2 days, you had to qualify to play it.
