Pros:
- Practice basket
- Bike rack
- Nice course map with easy navigation
- Dedicated disc course
- Concrete tees
- Nice tee signage
- Trees are growing
- Fairways are mowed giving some OB
- 1-9 finishes at the parking lot
- Easy bag off I-25.
- You almost always have the course to yourself.
Cons:
- GOAT HEADS!
- Hot course in the summer with no shade.
- Only one basket location.
- Repetitive holes
- The trees don't really add to the challenge
- Open fields get very windy on the Front Range.
Other Thoughts:
- Kudos to the town of Firestone for installing a dedicated DG course across the street from a large housing development.
- Goat Heads are everywhere on this course during Puncture Vine season. Open toe shoes or sandals are HIGHLY discouraged. Even thin-soled shoes can be an issue. Please leave your dog at home if you must play this course...they'll thank you later.
- The trees are growing up, but it doesn't seem like they will add much interest even when fully grown. They line the fairways like a ball-golf course adding separation to some of the fairways, but add no challenge to the basket. It feels like a missed opportunity. Also, they are only on the front 9. The back is just flat field
- Hole 9 finishes at the parking lot which offers a reprieve from the heat if you decide to just play the first 9.
- Final Thoughts? I really want to like this course. I've played here quite a few times trying to find some redeeming qualities. However, with the goat head issue and repetitive 300' straight holes it's hard to give this more than a 1.5. The town put in some effort and it shows, but there is only so much you can do with a hot, dry and dusty field.
