Great temp course

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 24, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-This is an 18 hole temporary course played on the south side of the Chickamauga Dam, most commonly assembled for the Belchin' Turkey over the Thanksgiving weekend
-Excellent use of available terrain. The first 6 holes involve a significant amount of elevation changes in both directions, with the rest of the course being much more gentle
-The temp baskets I played on were DGAs in great care and repair
-The temp tee signs were accurate with good distances and OB clearly listed
-Great variety of shots, ranging from under 200' to over 600' in the AM layout, even further for the longs
-Great use of trees and water, allowing for common sense OB and mandos that shape play and create challenge without being unreasonable
-Lots of parking
-Rest rooms available down by the lake

Cons:

-Most tees are grass, but this is a temp course so....
-I wish this could be a permanent course. It would lose some of the charm, but it would get a lot of play

Other Thoughts:

I understand that this course has been a fixture of the Chattanooga disc golf seen, and I can see why. The variety and challenge of the course is interesting and fun, adding the great atmosphere of tournament play. If you get the opportunity to play this course when it's available, take your chance. The only way I would rate this higher is if it became permanent.

The Dam Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 25, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Chickamauga Dam Course's temporary layout is a treat for those that get to play the yearly Belch'n Turkey, post-Thanksgiving tourney. The course itself is predominantly open with some areas with mature trees that help shape the lines. Instead of the tight lines found at the complimenting Sinks course, the dam relies more on length, elevation changes, natural and artificial OB, and more often than not, wind. Overall, there is a good mix of longer shots with a handful of shorter, must make birdie holes. Speaking of the elevation, there are some good uphill and downhill shots, some more pronounced than others, but overall not a lot of flat fairways. You'll also find a good mix of left or right sweeping shots too. And of course, there is plenty of OB to keep anyone honest. Also look for views of the lake along the course with a couple of holes where it comes into play.
Multiple tee pads, long and short, are here to cater to the respective divisions. The longs bring in a 6121' par 56 layout while the shorter tees ring up a par 55, 4738' arrangement. Look for a roughly 100-point difference to separate the two pads as far as PDGA ratings are concerned.

Cons:

Of course, the fact that its temporary will be the biggest hit. Everyone probably agrees that this is some perfect property for a course and its too bad its not here year-round. Other than that, I can't really think of many complaints, just the standard temp course issues such as natural pads, etc. Even still, the natural pads are nice on the thick grass where it was not possible to use a sidewalk or corner of a parking lot for the tee.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a high fun factor and is one of the reasons the Belch'n Turkey tourney is so much fun. I understand the property is used for another yearly tourney with a complete different layout. I hope to make it out to play the tourney in its configuration in the future as well.
