Xs and Woes Part II (You Ain't No Potter's Grove)

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 16, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Disclaimer: This is a review of the disc golf course ONLY. I don't discourage anyone from going to Church here. I don't discourage anyone from going to Church that is based on Biblical and sound teaching. I encourage anyone and everyone to seek a relationship with God.

But playing the disc course on the other hand.......I'll discourage anyone from playing the disc golf course. And don't you dare go in that pond!

Other Thoughts:

-Connect Church, it may be open
-Chainstar pros may not be broken
-There's not much space and oh it shows!
-Hey-oh, you ain't no Potter's Grove!

-The first hole might be down a hill
-The rest all flat, and that's no thrill
-No course for me to drive my bros
-Oh no, you ain't no Potter's Grove

-Crossing fairways, a disgrace to the game!
-The walk from 9 to 10, a walk of shame!
-Forming letter Xs? It's one of those?

-There may be a couple elements done right
-5's basket on the tree stump I kinda like
-Thinking of more pros will make my head smoke
-This last bar goes, you ain't no Potter's Grove!

-No more positives, just something evocative
-But I promise I'm not being provocative.
-I'm just talkative about my bad course woes
-Just so you know, you ain't no Potter's Grove

-Crossing fairways, a disgrace to the game!
-The walk from 9 to 10, a walk of pain!

-And guess what bro, you ain't no Potter's Grove

-The water hazard full of geese and ducks
-On hole 4 is filthy; it reeks with flux
-Back over on 16 so hold your nose
-Told you so, this ain't no Potter's Grove

-Too many flat holes by the parking lot
-Some of them are easy and some are not
-Same skill level to a great course I know
-Fair and open but no! You ain't no Potter's Grove

-There's a course in Potter's town where you can go
-Less than two hours away, a town called Seagrove
-Follow the leprechaun over the rainbows
-To his shiny pot of gold at Potter's Grove

Connect Christian Church

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 22, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Connect Christian Church is a fun, short course built around the grassy area and parking lot behind the church. The course currently has 9 baskets (although they are not all the same brand/make, they are all quality baskets), natural tees, and 18 holes in the layout. It is surprising that there was enough space to squeeze 18 holes here.

The course seems to be receiving some updates over time. When I first played the course, there were only 8 baskets for 15 holes. The course then played out and back along a U shape around the area. The current layout seems to have had more thought put into the holes. You no longer have to throw to a basket on a tiny median island in the middle of the parking lot!

Hole 1 has some significant elevation loss from the tee to the basket, and is a really fun shot. The course also utilizes the land behind the church well to create some fun holes. There are a couple of holes with water in play from the drainage area and utilize the trees that exist to create different shot shapes.

Hole 4 is a fun ace hole shot over a water carry that is less than 150' long.

Cons:

The times that I have played here, there were no tee markers, which can make the course impossible to play without a guide or uDisc. This would get especially confusing around Holes 8 through 11 where the course does a miniature figure eight between two baskets, creating some awkward transitions.

While the current 18 hole layout is a significant improvement on the old 15 hole layout I played the first time I was here, there are still too many holes throwing over the parking lot for my taste. Four holes by my count seemed to play significantly over the parking lot and two other holes played over the driveways to the parking lot. I do think the current holes that play over these areas are significant improvements over the previous layout and can be viewed as water carries, but that is still a third of the holes that play over asphalt. Make sure to bring a few discs you don't mind tearing up.

The field seems like it has a tendency to hold water. Which would make sense, the true water carries look like it is some form of drainage area. It could be better at different times of the year or when it hasn't rained, but my experiences here have left me with soggy socks.

Other Thoughts:

If it wasn't clear in the rest of the review here, the new layout is a noticeable improvement compared to the old one. I absolutely loathed the old Hole 8! So I am glad I waited to write this review after experiencing a better layout. I am going to give the course a 1.0 rating for now. I still am not a fan of the lack of signage or how many of the holes play over the parking lot. I think the course is a fun layout, but I also recognize that some form of tee marker would be a nice improvement, and that the amount of holes thrown over the parking lot is a detractor for me. If you live in the area this could be a fun afternoon practice course that probably has some fun safari layouts.
