Nifty Niner

Pros:

All the pros from the previous reviewers describe the course accurately. Now, there are excellent tee pads. This tract of land is beautiful dg course tucked in the woods. It has creeks, elevation change and and bunch of artistic details.
This is a great course to learn the sport. One will need many throws to score well on this 9 hole tract. Both tees will allow beginners and intermediates challenges. It is a very fun and enjoyable course even for the more advanced player.

Cons:

This course will be easy for advanced players. The mossy fairways are a aesthetically pleasing but create extra effort in located your disc.

Other Thoughts:

Best designed 9 hole course that I have played.

What's Up Holmes! 2+ years

Pros:

~Excellent use of the terrain
~Good mix of technical holes w/ short to medium distances
~Nice park setting, good amenities close by
~Imaginative layout, good flow, easy to navigate
~Two pin locations & two tees on each hole

Cons:

~Natural tee areas are uneven and prohibitive to run ups
~A few holes need clearer lines off the tee established
~Areas of the course, primarily around the baskets are spongy

Other Thoughts:

Visited on a late August Saturday to play in a local fund raiser tournament consisting of playing both tees to both basket locations over two 18-hole rounds. It was great to be able to play all current options available.

Deer Run is a sweet 9-hole course that offers great variety with the ability to play from two sets of tee pads. There are A and B basket positions allowing the baskets to be moved and configured for numerous variations on the layout. Beautiful park located fairly close to downtown Millersburg. The terrain provides a lovely wooded setting with a decent amount of elevation changes. The course design takes full advantage of this terrain and I really enjoy the variety of holes and options that are provided. Course flows easily and navigation is very straightforward. Tee signs are at every pad, and clear walking trails are between every hole.

Most holes are on the short to medium distance range, and you can mostly get by with putters and mids off the tee. Don't let the distances fool you though, because the tight lines and shot shaping required create a wonderful challenge. Currently the tee pads are natural, and most need cleaned up and leveled. It sounds like concrete pads may be a reality in the future and would further develop and elevate the play of this course.

The course is still relatively fresh, and there is some very minor clearing work needed on some holes to help establish more realistic fairways off the tee. Let me emphasize this is very minor, and I think letting the course age and wear in for a while will help indicate what else needs to come down. The only other item that stuck out to me is there are lot's of areas mostly around some baskets where the ground feels like thick layers of decomposed tree bark, it's very spongy and provides difficult footing for putts and approaches.

Overall a fine introduction of disc golf to Holmes County, and you can tell the locals take great pride in this fun, technical thrower. I would gladly visit this course repeatedly whenever in Millersburg.

Incredible Beauty, Incredible Design 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 4, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ Millersburg, Ohio is one of the beautiful towns in Ohio's Amish Country. The town boasts Deer Run Park, a phenomenal space that features lush woodlands, rolling hills, and a picturesque creek. It's a perfect setting for disc golf, and I'm honored to be one of the first to play with baskets installed!

+ Two sets of concrete tees and excellent signage on every hole.

+ The design of Deer Run is brilliant, utilizing the space, terrain, and meandering creek to perfection. #1 and #3 are my favorites, not only on this course, but in all of Ohio.

+ Brand new Patriot baskets on every hole. They are bright white and easy to spot in the deep woods.

+ The first tee and ninth basket are both close to the spacious parking lot, making it easy to play several rounds consecutively like I did.

+ Great variation in distances throughout the course. The two sets of tees add to the variation, and makes this a really dynamic course.

+ I've had nothing but positive interactions when I've travelled to Millersburg, and this trip was no exception. Came across a super friendly local, who I was able to educate about the game. Even convinced her to teach disc golf to her granddaughter!

Cons:

- The floor in the woods is grassy, which means it's harder to keep up opposed to a dirt floor. I'm sure the local club will put in the work, but in the summer, there may be some areas where it would be easy to lose a disc. Not really a con, more of a heads up.

- There's a few trees here and there that could be cleared.

- The pars on a few holes are a little bit generous. As a recreational to intermediate level player, I shot even par on the two rounds I kept score of.

- My max rating for a 9 hole course is 4.0.

Other Thoughts:

Once completed, Deer Run Park could be one of the best 9-hole courses out there. High replay value, and just an all around fun time. Can't wait to come back for the official opening!
