Pros:
This is the longer, more challenging course at D.R. Disc Golf. At 6125' total length it is not a monster. but it is completely wooded, making it seem longer.
Really outstanding variety and distribution of hole lengths and shapes. Fairways include dead-straight, along with an even mix of left and right bending and doglegged holes. Being able to throw both sweeping anhyzers and late-fading forehands will help you to navigate the fairways.
The six par-3 holes average just 195', so you've got some ace run opportunities and some almost certain birdies, assuming you can hit a line.
The six par-4 holes average 313'. So you can see that the pars are soft out here, even given the wooded course. I'm an 850-rated DG'er and have shot comfortably under par every round.
The longest holes are designated par-5 and average 513' with the longest at 621'. All of these fairways twist and turn, and you can be sure you'll hit a tree or two. But the ground is pretty clean so disc finding isn't a chore, and you just might discover a back-door route to the basket. But on many holes you'll have to take your medicine and pitch back into the fairway.
A huge amount of work has gone into creating and maintaining the fairways. They are reasonable width and shape, and are covered with the chipped wood of cut and fallen trees. It is a uniquely pleasant surface to walk and play over.
Raised wooden tee platforms are in excellent shape with adequate size and good texture. If you use a galloping run-up you will find them too small but I liked them fine. Picnic tables, ash trays and trash cans at every holes, and a couple of porta-potties are strategically located near hole intersections.
Mach-X baskets are in excellent shape and catch well.
So with the exception of tee signs (see cons) the infrastructure is solid.
Cons:
The only signs at the tees are large, bright hole numbers. So there is not doubt that you're in the right place. However, for distance and par you'll have to refer to the scorecard. The scorecard also includes a simple course map on the back, but beyond letting you know that the hole bends right or left it's not detailed enough to rely on.
I found myself scouting forward on almost all of the longer holes to spot the basket. On some holes I walked up over half of the hole length which resulted in a lot of extra walking. The Mach-X baskets catch great but are a trial to spot in these woods.
This course lacks significant elevation or water.
Other Thoughts:
This is a nicely designed and maintained DG complex. There is adequate parking, a small but decent pro shop, plenty of porta potties, tables, trash cans, etc. and friendly staff.
