Pros:
1) Hole design and variety here is magnificent. The course is all par 3s and they tend towards the shorter/more technical side of the spectrum, but there are holes of all shapes, sizes, and elevation profiles. The only thing I'd say is missing is a hole that really begs you to take out a distance driver. There aren't any two holes here that feel the same. No lines you are asked to throw here are even remotely unfair, but they are, for the most part, all still technical and will punish a poor shot.
2) Landscaping and maintenance are good. The grass on the first hole was a little bit wild, but mostly everywhere else is great. A few baskets and tees have built up rock walls around them and despite the tees being gravel they are all perfectly level and in basically perfect shape. The best gravel tees I've ever played on.
3) Speaking of the tees, there are two of them on every hole. On a few holes they are just the lazy 'same shot, but longer' version of multiple tee pads, but over half of them they do ask you to throw different lines or in some other way make the hole noticeably different than the other tee.
4) Baskets are cheaper DGA Mach baskets, but they are newer models and catch fine. Nothing to complain about with them. A few holes do have multiple basket placements, but I have no knowledge of if they get moved around on a regular basis or not.
5) Navigation is generally easy. Near the baskets there is usually some form of marker pointing to the next tee or an obvious walking path.
6) Unique, for Wisconsin, landscape. This was the most surprising thing (and what I enjoyed most) about the course. Hole 1 is a typical hole, still great. But then hole two plays over the closest thing to a boulder field that I've ever seen in the Midwest. Holes 4 and 5 play through and extremely natural section of the forest, more or less free from typical invasives that are around the Midwest. Hole 5 is just beautiful; large oaks and maples with a clean grassy forest floor with the basket perched up on an exposed rock formation. There are a few areas where if you aren't paying attention, you could take a tumble (namely the rock garden on hole 2 and towards the end of the fairway on hole 7), so maybe pay a little bit extra attention when walking the course than you usually would.
7) Great location. The course is in an underserved area of the state, located on a campground with tons of activities on site. Namely, the ATV trails and Motocross track. This could be seen as a con, as it can get quite noisy when the facility is busy. But the course is on its own area of the property and, especially around holes 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10, is secluded from everything else on site and neighboring properties.
Cons:
1) While the course appears to be generally very well maintained I still want to mention a couple minor things here. On the back half of the course a few of the tee pads were overrun by leaves, so it doesn't look like anyone is out on a regular basis to basic maintenance. It's not really an issue, but it was slightly annoying to have to clear off the pads myself and if it was wet out could make the pads very slippery. There was also a tree that had fallen down right across the walking path between holes 6 and 7 that made the walk between the two holes a little tricky. Lastly, on the edge of the forested area (mostly just holes 8 and 9) the rough is pretty much just thick patches of thorny bushes. It's easy enough to avoid it, but going in it is certainly a terrible experience, much worse than it needs to be.
2) Tee signs are very bare bones. They just have the hole number and distance. The distances range from spot on to nearly 50 feet off based on what I got with my rangefinder. There is also no indicator of basket location on the holes that have multiple location.
3) Nit picking now, only 12 holes despite what looks like more than enough room to get 18 quality holes in place.
4) Though the pads are in wonderful shape, they are only gravel so objectively it is something I must mention here.
Other Thoughts:
Overall, Dream Big is a very good, possibly great, course for what it is, but gets brought down by some minor issues. The natural beauty on parts of the course and the great fun factor combine to provide a great experience. I see myself making return trips here when I am in the area and I highly recommend it to anyone else, maybe as far away as the Fox Cities if you are up for a day trip. If you are a course bagger, this is a must play if you are driving down Hwy 29 and have any spare time in your trip.
It's been said this course was getting concrete pads and expanding to 18 holes "soon" since the course has gone in, but it's been over 3 years and I didn't see any sign of them going in during my visit. When these upgrades do occur, and if the new holes remain high quality, I see absolutely no reason this couldn't be a 4-star course once (if) that happens. The course is certainly listening to itself and dreaming big, and I hope to see the potential realized in the future.
Note: This review was written a few days after I played the course in September of 2021, but I just forgot to post it for a few months. *facepalm* Everything in the review is as I originally wrote it, so it's still my usual quality and not just cobbled together from little bits I can remember from 5 months ago. Haha.
