Description
Rooted in disc golf history, the Frontier Park Flyin’ Bison Disc Golf Course stands as a testament to the sport's earliest days. Crafted in 1983 through the collaborative vision of dedicated locals and the Parks Department, this course represents the enduring spirit of its creators, including Ron Rice, Karen Elder, Les Dreiling, and Deb Ewy. Positioned among the pioneering first 170 disc golf courses built in the US, and as the fourth built in Kansas, it remains a living piece of disc golf heritage. As the last original grassroots course in the state (the first 3 have either been redesigned or removed), the Flyin’ Bison DGC preserves a legacy while offering players a scenic and challenging experience within a picturesque park.
The course offers a diverse and challenging park-style disc golf experience featuring mature trees, gentle slopes, and a winding creek among other unique features. In addition to the fully-intact “Original” 1983 layout, multiple tee pads and 3 basket options per hole present a variety of shot options and memorable holes.
The surrounding park features several walking/biking trails, access to restrooms and drinking water, and multiple picnic areas and shelter houses. Downtown Hays is a short walk/drive away, providing a diverse selection of shops, restaurants, bars, and other curiosities.
