Pros:
I wasn't sure what I would get when I pulled into the park for Grove City .The park itself looks to be well used , picnickers and kids everywhere . When you enter the park ( I missed this ) make sure you drive left as soon as you can and park to the left of the far left shelter houses . You will see a kiosk sticking out . Plenty of parking here . The baskets are Discatchers , used but in good shape . The signage is pretty good . No benches or trash bins , but not a big problem , as the first nine holes are so confined that you are near trash cans for your quick first 9 a lot . The tee pads a natural with toe boards . You will see these pretty easily . The course flows very easy , especially for the first 9 , typical community park style . Short easy holes that were put in much earlier than the back 9 . The front 9 can be used by advanced discers for approach shots and as an introduction to the game for newbies . You have to be a little careful in spots on the front 9 as many unsuspecting park patrons may either be inspecting the weird looking baskets or walking the fairway with the family dog . Just be careful . #9 is a good finishing hole for the front . Short , over a gully hyzer right , with trees and brush protecting the right of the basket . After pulling your disc out of the basket ( Hmmm , you may have wanted to park next to 9's basket and drove to 10 , you will see an off road to your far right which , after about 300 meters will take you to 10 , which will be sunken down to the right of the road . The back 9 of this course has a completely different feel to it . Longer throws , many more trees to contend with , much more thought and energy into it . Way more length . #17 is over 700' . Pin placements on the back 9 make you have to think and create more , but it is no way exhausting or undoable . Good players will still score well on the back . A fun round where the front 9 warms you up and the back 9 works you out . Signature hole : Maybe 18, an almost 400' throw to a slight left at the end .
Cons:
I took the course for what it was : the front 9 installed to introduce the locals to the game and let the kids play , and adding a back 9 to make in more competitive as your skills mature while drawing out of towners into the city to either bag a course , get a feel of Grove City ( nice small town ) or play your way towards I-79 or I-80 . There are just a few cons ( sorry , Grove City ) . #1 . foot traffic . This really only involves the front 9 . Be careful . The park is shared by all and most don't know better . #2 natural tee pads . I personally don't care for toe boarded natural tee pads . The hold water when used a lot and cause you to stand in wet grass to throw your first drive . Hopefully , someday , the park will budget for the addition of cement tee pads ? #3 for players that play a fair amount , the front 9 is pretty vanilla and short . You may have to just play the back 9 twice . #4 long and possibly confusing walks . Good long walk from 9-10 , 17-18 ( long pathway to the immediate right of 17 basket ) and 18 to where you parked. I don't mind the walks , but many do , so I want to put it out there . No water carries or traps , not much in the way of elevation .
Other Thoughts:
I didn't want anyone reading this to skip this course , especially after adding the cons . It looks as if the front 9 was added as part of a park project , then after it was well received , put some time and effort to add a more competitive back 9 . A great addition to Grove City . Good for travelers , great for the locals . Cement tees would really boost this course . My recommendation : Play it and enjoy a meal in the city !
