Lapping memorial DGC is a tightly wooded course with moderate elevation changes throughout. There's a creek that runs through the course and can come into play in multiple locations as well. It wasn't deep at all in mid April after a lot of rain recently, so I'd assume it's a pretty minimal chance for lost discs in it. It does make for some awkward lies and lots of rollaway potential from the banks going into it.

The flow of the course is pretty easy to follow with lots of next tee arrows pointing you in the right direction. There's only two open holes on the entire course so you'll end up following some pretty well worn trails through the woods. There's also next tee arrows on each tee sign in addition to the others near the baskets.

The baskets are green Prodigy's. These catch alright. Anyone who's played on these knows they don't like putts to either side. But they're still better than lots of other options out there. One basket but dual pin placements per hole.

The tees are those slotted concrete deals that are very popular around this area. I like these things. Plenty big enough and all are mounted level. There's two tees on almost every hole. The blue locations are geared toward intermediate players while the golds offer a pro level challenge. I liked the fact that there was a much different look to the hole from blues versus golds. Not just placed a little further back.

The design is very well done here. Great mix of different shot shapes required to score well. There's up, down, left, right, straight, you name it you'll find it here. The back nine starts near the parking lot which is always a bonus.

Very nice tee signs that are located at each tee. Quality detailed hole map showing each tee and pin placement, any ditches or trails crossing the fairway and next tee arrows. The yellow signs are the golds and the blues are for the blue tees. In addition to that there's the hole #, pars and distances to both pin placements and the elevation change to each pin. Nicely done with these.

The course is free to play and open year round. Practice basket located by hole 1 too.

The walking trail meanders all over throughout the course. Be sure to pay attention when playing here. The leaf cover was thin when I played but in the warmer months it'll be hard to see walkers.

There's a couple longer walks between holes that weren't that obvious, even with the next tee signs. The ones we had pause with were 8 to 9, 9 to 10 and 16 to 17. Not a huge issue but worth noting. It'd still be handy to have a map available.

The baskets are green. I never understood why this color would even be an option for a disc golf basket. Kind of tricky to spot them in the woods so you may have to walk up the fairway to spot them before throwing.

This was my favorite course in the Louisville area. By quite a bit, but I love wooded courses and that's precisely what this one is. If you're into open bomber courses this one won't be for you. If I could only play one course over here though, this is what I'd play. Well worth a stop if you find yourself in the area or even a slight detour off the expressway. Great woods course.

Multiple tees, and different pin locations.
The slotted precast tee pads are a little bit ingenious considering the weather I experienced in Indiana.
Good tee signs. Fairly intuitive flow of play. I only had to hunt for a couple of tee pads (I played Gold).
This will put you to the test. Good mix of shots. This is a wooded course that would fit in well in NC but it's a different type of tree so it has a different feel.
Very beautiful course. The hardwoods and the creek and the elevation make it feel like a hidden forest. Interesting bridges that criss-cross the creek when needed. It was still in winter gloom color but you can tell a nice forest when you see it.

There were a few large trees downed from recent storms and a couple of fairways are apparently impeded now. The trunks appeared to have been sawed so it looks like Leslie Knope is on it.

A few of the bridges that cross the creek need repaired or have lost their moorings because of erosion.

Navigation can be tricky. Also kinda hard to tell which pin position is in play. I remember the basket for 17 being putting distance from the basket for 16.

Some of the hill sides were near shear cliffs and slick with mud. I had to hike over with a disc, throw hike out a different way, then find my next shot.

This course was an absolute man maker. I was finished with my business trip and head back to NC and just decided to catch one last round before I hit the highway. This was closest to my last business stop.

The shots were technical and varied and even scary at times but it really blew me away. The fairways were fair, good shots were greatly rewarded and bad shots were appropriately punished. I really love the secluded forest adventure feel and this provided in spades. I think Southern Indiana is building up a hidden wonderland of DG. First Dubois County and now Lapper really pleasantly surprised this old Carolina hucker. If work doesn't bring me back this way, I will be truly sad.

I kinda bumped the rating half a disc just for the surprise factor.

If you are in the Louisville area, pay the toll and go across the bridge and play this one. When you're done there's shops and restaurants real close by to visit.

Two tees-gold for advanced/pro and blue for newer players. Short but technical with lots of shot shapes-but really easy to recover from if you get off fairway because the trees aren't too thick. As a newer player it has helped me and I feel like almost all holes are now parable for me. Plays with shot shape, tunnels, and elevation.

This is my favorite home course and a star of the louisville area

-Each hole (other than one or two of them) had two different teepads with different difficulties.

-Baskets were in good shape.

-Teepads were in good shape.

-Teepad maps were pretty accurate in relation to the picture. (Not sure if I trust the distances on a few holes, however.)

-A lot of interesting fairways. We played the yellow tees, which offered a mild to medium difficulty of game with some fun gaps and elevation changes.

-Mainly technical shots within a wooded area, but a few holes out in an open field. Felt relatively satisfied with the balance.

-Wasn't too crowded. Saw a few other groups but never overlapped with them.

-The trails and next holes' pad locations need to be posted in more convenient spots. There were a few signs pointing to the next holes but we found ourselves walking back to the previous teepad to see where the next teepads were a few times.

-Path leading from hole 9 to 10 was a little confusing because the "Next Hole" sign was pointing in the direction of a fork in the trail that splits into 3 different paths. Took us 5ish minutes to find the 10th hole.

-A few of the Par 4s should be 3s, in my opinion.

-Some standing water and mud on the fairways, not the best drainage on certain holes.

Overall, this is a pretty decent course (but a fun one) that offers a reasonable amount of variety and some interesting fairways and hole placements.

I think that the "Next Hole This Way" signs could be put in better locations for players new to the course, but if you've played the course more than once or twice, you probably wouldn't need them.

Definitely recommend at least checking it out if you're in the area!

holes are challenging but not too difficult....perfect for pros and for beginners.

some holes were unplayable because of standing water from recent rains. i had trouble finding baskets so i often threw at spots where i thought the hole was. i also had trouble finding my way to the next hole (needs to be better marked).

The section of Lapping Park devoted to disc golf is a beautiful wooded area complete with a few winding creeks, decent elevation changes, old-growth trees, and very minimal undergrowth. It's moderately-to-heavily wooded and every hole has gaps you must hit to score well. Sloppy shots are rarely rewarded. Overall, it's a fine canvas for flinging the frisbees and the designer maximized all of the park's features.

The basics are all strong: good Prodigy T1 baskets, 2 concrete tees per hole (providing COMPLETELY DIFFERENT looks), navigational guides, 2 pin sleeves per hole, practice basket, bridges in the right spots (making this surprisingly cart friendly). The 2 9's loop back to the parking area. Course baggers can rejoice as it's only 5 minutes from the highway and can be played in as little as an hour depending on the layout you choose.

I'd generally describe Lapping as highly technical, however there are several different ways to play this course that greatly change the layouts, distances, and your score. This is my favorite part about playing this course. If you want a bruising technical challenge, you play the long/Gold tees. If you want a beginner-friendly yet still challenging for intermediate players, you play the short/Blue tees. There's also the Goldilocks "Green" layout that smartly chooses a best-of option between the Golds and Blues. As a 930ish rated player, I typically shoot in the high 40s in the Blues, the 50s in the Greens, and the 60s in the Golds. You can easily have a scoring difference of 20+ strokes depending on layout and I think that's an incredible testament to the variety Lapping provides.

Playing the behemoth Gold tees will give you the most technical challenge of any of the Louisville/Southern Indiana courses. The Par 4s generally require placement/finesse drives to landing zones to get the ideal angle on the next shot.

The Blue tees still offer lots of challenge but several generous ace runs are sprinkled in to help most players get a stroke or two back .

The Green layout (see UDisc for specifics as they sometimes change) gives you the best of both worlds and is my personal favorite layout.

The tee signs can be confusing as they were installed prior to the final design tweaking. This doesn't affect navigation but some distances are currently inaccurate and some sign posts are not next to the current tee location.

Time to nitpick on minor gripes: hole 3 gold has one skinny tree in the middle that brings luck into the equation on an otherwise fantastic hole. I'm not a fan of removing trees but this one really needs to disappear. Hole 18 gold tee shot is brutally tough and forces a short layup to get to the blue tee. Maybe some 1000 rated players can figure out a reliable line to clear the tall ledge halfway down the fairway but the rest of us are probably pulling out the putter or mid and hoping to get 175ft to a clearing. Maybe this is a Pro for some. It's a Con for me. And beware, hole 9 gold tee area is on a sketchy hillside (2021 update, this is fixed!).

After big rains, the creeks will rise and can make disc retrieval very difficult on 6, 9, 11, and 18. The Blue layout mitigates most of the creek danger.

I'm thrilled to have this course within a 20 minute drive from my home. The "choose your own adventure" aspect is the best quality of Lapping and I love it. Only have time for 9? You have the well balanced 2 9's to choose from (both loop back and each have some tough Par 4s). Want an incredible challenge? Play the Golds. Want a quick round that challenges your short game? Play the Blues. Want a little of everything? Play the Greens.
