Pleasant Experience 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 12, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Well maintained, good signage, great tees, great baskets and nice warmup baskets. It was fun but I don't know if I need to go back anytime really soon.

Cons:

The course wasn't very inspiring. More than half of the holes were just 200 feet over a grass field. There wasn't a whole lot of obstacles or challenges on the course. Overall it was fun to go there once but not more than that.

Other Thoughts:

Most of the holes were pretty short and there is potential for aces and definitely some 2 shots. It would be pretty hard to go over par on this course.

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 21, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

As you come into the park great signage pointing you to where the disc golf course begins.
Two very nice Mach x practice baskets await you to warm up putting on.
Tee signs showing you hole number and distances on every hole.
Also little brooms, and a little chair on every hole as well.
This course is extremely manicured and very nice. Almost zero chance of losing a disc here, and a very clean organized disc golf course. Some ace chances for sure and a great place to bring the family or new players.

Cons:

Not many holes to air it out. Only 1 hole you can really throw your big boy driver on. Course is fairly wide open not many obstacles besides hole 4. People walking on trails might have to wait a second to throw but everyone was super friendly.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a great addition to the area, and would be great place for an ace race or just to come enjoy a fun stress free round of disc golf

Upshot practice with a couple of actual drives 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice for a casual round of mostly short throws. Good for getting some drives in with putters and mids, with only a couple of holes needing a driver.

Cons:

If you want to throw full power with a distance driver, this isn't the course for you.

Pros:

This is a fun 9 hole DGC in Wilsonville OR. This course plays through the backside part of Memorial Park. I enjoyed how they seperated the disc golf course from the actual park which makes it nice and secluded from the activities from the baseball field/park. You'll still run into some accessional walkers though.

Great elevation change throughout this course. Hole 9 is a lovely little downhill shot and a few holes have gentle elevation change.

This course has very concrete nice tee-pads and great tee signs. Navigation on this course is very easy. You probably won't need a map. Do note where hole 1 is though. It's a little bit of a hike.

Love that they installed two practice baskets for warming up. For a nine short nine hole course I was impressed. They definitely made great use of the space they had to put in a dgc.

Cons:

This course isn't made for long 400-600 ft holes. This is definetly a beginner friendly course. Hole 8 is on the longer side. It's uphill and requires a full arm to get it there.

I've ran into a lot of dog poop on this course which isn't amazing. Especially near holes 6 and 7. A lot of people walk their dogs through the trail on the right side of those holes.

Other Thoughts:

- You should be aware that this course is really short for players that can throw farther than 350ft. So you might want to empty out your bag so there are only fairway drivers and lower.

UPDATE: There are now two new make shift holes playing in the former dog park right next to the permanant dgc. It's just 2 portable baskets and a few dirt tee pads. I'm not sure if these holes will stay but I liked having some alternate holes to play.

Not For Serious Rounds 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Ace-race course, located right near a dog park.

Great for practicing mid-range and putter drives.

Most holes are 200 feet long, there is one hole that's 310.

The baskets are excellent. DGA makes some of the best baskets around.

A round here takes about 15 minutes, perfect for a lunch break.

Cons:

Tee pads are slippery, they really need to score them for extra grip.

Grass isn't taken care of despite how small the course is.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't really a challenging course, really good for beginners.

Really good for cramming in multiple rounds and working on odd shots and techniques.

Just don't expect a tournament here or daily dubs.

Neighborhood Pitch-n-Putt 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 23, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a fine little neighborhood course, with modest hole lengths varying from 196' to 310'. Seven of the holes are 230' or less, so this is a perfect course to practice your putter driving.

Excellent amenities, with flat concrete tee pads, excellent tee signs, and Mach X baskets. Also a couple of practice baskets, a course bulletin board, and a locked disc return box. If only all courses had this level of infrastructure!

There is some sloping ground here that gives a roll-away potential at a couple of baskets, as well a modest uphill or downhill drive on hole or two.

Cons:

This is a very simple course, with minimal challenge. Only Holes 4 & 5 require a drive around trees. Everything else is an open throw over grass.

A couple of walking trails wind through the course so you'll have to be aware of pedestrians who may not be aware of you.

Other Thoughts:

This is not a destination course, but is a great little spot to practice approaches and putts.

Great Intro Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 20, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is great for new players. There are two baskets for practice putting as you walk down the path towards the course. The baskets are all DGA Mach Xs paired with concrete pads and nice signage, though you can see most of the course at all times. The longest hole is right around 300 ft with most being 230 ft or less. Holes 4 and 5 have some obstacles, while the rest of the holes are open. Though the lack of obstacles makes it easier for experienced players, the openness and short holes makes this course perfect for new players or players working on certain aspects of their game. I would also note I have seen a lot of work being down at this course over the times I have played here. This has included thinning the rough edges to help remove a lot of the blackberry bushes throughout the park.

Cons:

With the lack of trees on the course it can get very hot in the summer with limited areas to escape and cool down. Also being that the course is relatively new the grass is patchy and ground rough from the original clearing. This should get better over time as the course is used and the maintenance continues.

Other Thoughts:

Memorial Park is a great course for either a quick round or a course to teach new players. If the maintenance keeps up the way it has so far, this should remain a beautiful course for a long time.

$1000 Course With $1,000,000 Amenities! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Memorial Park in Wisonville is just a short hop off Interstate 5 making it an excellent place for a quick pit stop or an easy get for us course baggers. Of course, if you're just passing through and want to hit as course or two, there are other more challenging course around Portland such as Champoeg State Park a little farther south or Pier Park just north in Portland. Memorial Park is a lovely, large park with lots of activities for all. The course is right next to the dog park sharing the same little parking lot. I love the fact that there is an OFFICIAL PARK SIGN pointing the way to the disc golf course. It was almost twenty years ago when I first glimpsed a park sign which read Disc Golf Course and now you're seeing them in many parks. Disc Golf is slowly approaching respectability!

This course has first class amenities starting with the nice, new kiosk in the parking lot which has a course map and disc golf rules. It also has a very nice and secure lost disc return box but I doubt very much that it gets many lost discs as there just aren't a lot of places to lose discs here. There are two practice baskets for your putting pleasure. The pads are nicely large concrete ones. DGA Mach X's with the red numbers on top are the basket of choice here. The great new, colored metal tee signs also point to the next tee.

For all these great amenities, the course is rather tame. It really makes for a wonderful little Pitch n' Putt, superbly perfect for beginners but lacking in any challenge, even for us recreational types. Holes 1 (230') ,2 (196') ,3 (204'), 6 (200') and 7 (196') are all straight, short and wide open. # 8 is slightly longer at 310' but still straight and wide open, as well. ACE runs they are, creative challenging holes for most players, not a chance.
# 4 has, at least a couple of trees to throw through and # 9, at least makes you throw a little anhyser shot around some trees.

Cons:

It's too bad that the # 8 basket wasn't set in the small grove of trees about 50 feet further back. That would have been a little more interesting.

Not much challenge for most players, but perfect for beginners.

A few walkers or dog folks but nothing too worrisome.

Other Thoughts:

This is another of these simple little courses with the best navigational aids money can buy. There is a course sign to get you to the course. It's about 1000 feet down the path. There are arrows pointing you to the first tee. Each tee sign has an arrow which shows the next tee. And then I think of how much time I spend stumbling around the woods in some of the largest, most rugged and most poorly signed courses all over the USA. On many of those, I would be so grateful for any signage.

This is a great course for course baggers and a great course for beginners. Not so for anyone who has played a few times.

It'll only get better 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 10, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-This is a quick, easy 9 hole course just off I-5 in Wilsonville, OR. It's in the back corner of a large, rolling, multi-use park. The longest hole is 300 feet and there aren't many obstacles, so this is a great course for beginners or practice. Most of the holes are 200 foot putter shots but holes 4, 5, and 8 are a bit longer and provided a driver opportunity.
-It was installed very recently, and whoever put it in did a wonderful job. Large concrete teepads, Mach X baskets, and permanent metal tee signs shows someone put a lot of time into this course.
-There are two practice baskets on the path in. They should have been closer to the first tee, though.
-There weren't a lot of trees but many of the holes lended themselves to a certain type of shot.
-My favorites: Hole 4 was a fun, forehand flex or low laser shot through the only trees on the course. Hole 5 was a downhill slight hyzer back through the clump of trees. Hole 9 was a fun downhill 200 foot hole which I'm sure will be aced many of times.

Cons:

-It appears that the site used to be overgrown with blackberries. There are thickets of blackberry bushes off the edge of many holes. There isn't much a chance of losing a disc since the holes are short but it's possible.
-Because the course is new, the grass hasn't completely grown in yet where the blackberries once were, and there is dusty dirt all over.
-The course was crammed into a very small piece of property. From the fifth tee you can see every single basket. On a few occasions teepads and baskets are very close, too close for comfort. They should have cleared a little more land for a better course.
-The practice baskets are right next to the dog park. I almost stepped in dog poop when I was warming up.

Other Thoughts:

-If some more brush had been cleared, the holes could be spread farther apart and more trees would be exposed for more technical holes.
-Many small trees have been planted. They won't have much presence for at least 10 years, though.
-On the road in, watch on the left for the trailhead with signs for the dog park and disc golf. I breezed right past it and parked in the wrong lot. The trail from there took me to hole 8.
-It was a lot of fun. If I lived in Wilsonville, I could see myself playing here all the time. It'll only get better. It's also a great stop on a road trip, just a couple minutes off of I-5.

Nice beginner course in Wilsonville 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great new baskets and tee pads.
Lots of open shots, great for beginners.
I love the downhill shot at #9, and big old apple tree in the middle of #7.
Lots of parking nearby, and porta-potties.

Cons:

Signage is all temporary, most of the little stakes were already pushed over or the signs fell off.
Not very challenging.
Fairways are right, and play very close to one another.

Other Thoughts:

The course has potential for expansion and improvement with more obstacles. I'll be back, and I'll bring my friends.

More obstacles, please. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 11, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Memorial Park is a well-maintained complex with many amenities including restrooms, sports fields, trails for walking/running, and river access. The course itself is located in the southeast quadrant of the park, and one should park in the dog park lot. This will put you at the NW (upper left) corner of the map that is posted on this site. I'd recommend viewing the map to judge where hole 1 is. I didn't, and spent an extra 5 minutes looking for hole 1.
(Edit: a sign by the practice baskets now directs players to hole 1)

The course should be a very accessible course for beginners, and only includes 2 holes (4 and 5) that might add interest for more advanced golfers. 4 nearly forces a [RH] forehand skip shot, and 5's basket, perched on a slightly sloped green, requires a [RH] backhand hyzer of some sort, though watch out for the apple tree in the middle - would've ate a disc if I didn't climb it armed with a long stick.
(Add: I threw into the tree again on my second round, and it caught it again! Awesome apples, btw. Can't believe nobody's harvested them)

The baskets and tee pads are of good quality.
(Edit: and the new sign posts are top-notch. The map of each hole on the signs might be unnecessary, but the distance to the pin is good to know).

Cons:

But for holes 4 and 5, the course is completely open with elevation only coming into play on a few holes. There appear to be some newly planted trees on holes 6-9 that may add some interest in 10 years (if they survive their first summer). Trees should be planted for holes 1-3.

As seen on the map, 4 holes cross a walking trail, but there was minimal traffic when I played.

Other Thoughts:

Park-goers seemed interested in the course, and a troop of volunteers was clearing invasives past hole 7 when I was playing. Like castigo, I also saw no sign of poison oak.

It's a quick 5 minutes from the freeway, and serves as a decent warm-up to Champoeg. I'll bring my novice wife someday if it's on the way to something else, but it's probably not interesting enough for me to make the trip to play solo again. Perhaps if/when the trees grow in, my course rating would bump up to a max of 3.5

Quick and easy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 29, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great baskets and pads.
Pretty quiet.
Tons of aces to be had.

Cons:

Longest hole is just over 300, and doesn't seem like it.
A little cramped on the last few holes - you might have to wait for others to tee off before shooting (especially hole 7 to tee 8).

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice little course, but it is little. Played solo in about 20 minutes, maybe less. Each hole was very short, I used a Leopard to drive on all but two holes. It's a nice course if you are in the area and itching for a quick game, or if this is your hometown, but I won't make it a destination. Reports of poison oak, but I did not see any. Overall kudos to the designers for doing it right with good baskets, pads, and signs.
