Pros:

North Tahoe Regional Park is home to an 18 hole disc golf course. The course plays through the woods around the north side of the park and can be split in half fairly easily so you can stop back at your vehicle after playing hole 10. The course itself stays away from the other activities in the park for the most part too. The course is mostly wooded and does a decent amount of elevation but nothing too strenuous, especially compared to some of the other courses in the area.

The tee pads are nicely sized rubber mats. These are wood or concrete block framed and are all installed nice and level. One tee pad per hole.

The baskets are older Mach III's I believe. These are all still in solid shape and catch pretty well. Each has a number plate on the top with bright red letters for the number which stands out from a distance pretty decently. Each also has a plastic next tee arrow attached to the top of the chain assembly pointing you towards the next tee. One basket per hole but up to four different pin placements on each hole.

Pretty good design on this one. The flow is pretty straightforward for the most part and the designers utilized the elevation nicely to add some additional challenges besides just the trees. The course plays as a par 54 unless hole 9 is in the long, nearly 1,000' position. Not a great beginner course but it fits the vast majority of players pretty well.

The tee signs are very nice. There's an actual aerial view of the hole which shows all the different pin placements with distances and any OB or other landmarks which is always nice to have. There's a next tee arrow on the map as well. The right side of the signs have the hole #, and distances and pars for each pin position. Bright, bold and just all around great signage. These each have the pin indicator washer below the sign too which is always nice to see.

The course, and really the whole park, is extremely clean and well maintained. There's numerous benches throughout the course as well as restrooms near hole 1 and a practice basket and full course map before you get to the first tee. Free to play and permanent.

Cons:

The fairways on a couple of the holes at the top of the hill on the front half of the course are basically just a gravel road that will chew up your discs pretty good. Hole 9's entire fairway is gravel basically which is kind of ridiculous for a 900' plus hole. Hole 14 is also pretty much all gravel and rocks as well.

There's a couple areas where the tees and baskets are a little too close for my liking. For example 17's basket is pretty close to the line for 18 if it's in the right position. 7's tee was closer to 6's basket than it seemed at first as well.

Apparently there's a $5/car fee to enter the park. We didn't see any signage to indicate this or a pay kiosk so I'm not totally sure about this. We just parked and played it. If they do charge that'd be mildly annoying but $5 a car is pretty reasonable at least.

The manzanitas are pretty thick in places. Makes for some awkward footing and stances and does pose a risk of disc loss.

Other Thoughts:

This was a fun course. I'd probably play this one quite a bit if I lived near here. It's got enough challenge but doesn't overwhelm you with elevation and distance. This is just a fun woods course. Not a must play or worth going any major length out of your way to play it, but it's certainly worth a spin if you're nearby and have an hour to kill. Fun course but nothing that'll really wow you.

Rad Region

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 4, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

North Tahoe Regional has all of the assets that I love about mountain disc golf, but it isn't maximum intensity all of the time. There is significant elevation change on several holes, but many that are fairly level or gradually sloping. Trees are nearly a constant, but just a handful are heavily wooded and often the fairways will be clear much of way. A good mix of distances will give you the opportunity to get the birdies, and a couple of holes are really going to test the arm. Layout had two par 4's at the time I played, for overall 56.

The tee pads are rubber mats that are set well, level and generally good. The tee signs were nice, with illustrations showing the landscape and various pin placements. I had no complaints about the baskets.

The front and back 9 have flipped since this page was established, so you don't have to climb up the hill to start the round anymore. First half dozen holes are pretty flat. 3 is sort of cool. It tees out of trees and over a clearing that is a bit below the level of the tee and the pin. The basket is on the other side on the fringe of the woods. 7 is a shorty that climbs a slope to set up a fun downhill drive on 8. 9 is the long, flat and wide open variety. It can be over 1000' with the pin in the long position.

hole 10 is a midrange that is down a very open hill. Unless you miss way left no obstacles stand in the way of the basket on the flat at the bottom. 12 and 13 are thick with woods, and have a little less level terrain than the heavily forested holes on the front nine. They have lines, but it takes a very precise throw to max out on distance. 14 is a bomber out of the woods and across the flat to the edge of the soccer field. 15 is another midrange with drop in elevation, not quite as drastic as 8 or 10, but a higher density of trees. 16 and 17 are in an alley with limited tress in the center. 18 is a cool drive to a pin set on a hillside at the end surrounded by trees.

Picking out a signature hole isn't an obvious selection, but most of the holes do have distinct challenges, and variation is good. Natural landscape is very nice as well. I really liked 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, and 18.

Cons:

There is a $5 fee to enter the park, and there are other free courses in the area that I liked better.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fun course, that isn't terribly difficult but it does offer a bit of a challenge. It plays fairly quickly and isn't hard to follow the layout.

I shot 3 over par 59. 3 birdies, 4 bogeys and a double bogey. If you can only play one course in the area this wouldn't be my first choice, but it's worth a shot if you have the time.

Pros:

Cool course in Regional park.
-great accurate signage throughout course made for easy navigation
-next tee signs on every hole
-great elevation change
-nice mix of short, technical holes and long holes
-a couple pretty epic views of the mountains and lake
-trash cans on nearly every hole
-areas to sit/benches at every tee box

Cons:

Not many cons. Parking fee if you're not a local.

Other Thoughts:

This course was definitely cool and I will come back. There are quite a few really sweet challenging holes here, but felt there was a good amount of "filler" holes as well. Challenging layout but felt it lacked the epic experience of other Tahoe courses. This would be a great home course, but I was expecting a little more for some reason.

Pros:

- great flat rubber tee pads
- good tee signs that give you all the info you need
- good variety of shots
- distances ranging from 250ish to over 600 feet and one shot with basket placements over 1000
- great use of elevation, lots of unique uphill and downhill shots
- this course will challege you to throw every shot you have

Cons:

- while not bad, navigation could be improved on a few holes
- the overall layout feels like a lot of back tracking to get to some holes
- somewhat long walk between 9 and 10 and needed to check with the course map to find 10
- a couple longer holes are totally blind, so you may need to scout ahead or use a spotter

Other Thoughts:

A real quality course that would offer a challenge to most players. A pretty serious mountain course, that If you are not prepared for it can be pretty grueling. If you start at hole 10 the course flows a little better.

Great variety 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through a mostly wooded property with some open meadows mixed in. That makes for a really nice balance of tight technical holes and some where you have some more room to air out a drive. Most of the open holes still have lurking brush or trees if you really shank your drive, some have pins tucked up against elevation changes or thick rough to make the short game more interesting. There are some nice elevation changes throughout, nothing huge but enough that you get some tough uphills and a couple fun downhill shots. There are some really nice views from a couple of the elevated tee pads.

The variety here is quite good. There is a nice balance of left and right turning shots of various lengths and shapes, I used most of the discs in my bag on this course. You'll need a well rounded game to score well here, and there's enough rough to really punish errant throws. The tee pads are rubber, and were constructed exceptionally well. All were flat and solid when I played, it's nice to see rubber tees done well.

The map at the beginning of the course is nice to have, as are the nice tee signs and some next tee signs in a few places.

Cons:

Navigation is tricky in a few spots, especially at the start of the course even with the map. The routing is a bit odd, with a long walk to hole 1 that was easy to avoid by renumbering the course to start at 10. There are some really ugly holes here, with graveled parking areas and dirt roads across or along the fairways. Hole 1 brings the parking lot and park road into play on bad shots. The brush on some of the fairways was thick enough to lose discs in, that gets old pretty quick.

Other Thoughts:

This is a challenging and interesting course. A little work cleaning up the fairways and signage would make this a nice destination course. Beginners will find this layout pretty tough and frustrating, there's enough length and punishment that less accurate players without a lot of distance might get frustrated. Experienced players will find a fairly complete challenge of their disc golf game. I definitely recommend a stop here if you're in the Tahoe area.

Pros:

Great use of land
Front 9 is more technical than the back 9
Uphill shots and a few downhill shots
The landscape from the 1st tee box is picturesque for sure, bring a camera
If you are lost, there are great signs pointing you to the basket and arrows pointing you to the next tee. Playing 1-9 will bring you back to your vehicle for a snack and potty break before playing 10-18.

Cons:

Lots of places to lose your disc
Can get busy, especially if you have a larger group on a weekend
$5 to enter the park. Guess this changed from the previous $3 we use to pay at the front gate deposit box.

Other Thoughts:

Still one of the best courses in the Tahoe area. Combine this with North Tahoe Lions Club in Incline Village (just a few minutes away) and you can have a great day of discing.

Rugged, Challenging Course, Alright! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Starting at # 10 like the locals advise, I missed the big hike up to # 1. The course features a course sign at the parking lot, bathrooms, rubber mats, tee signs with pictures. The signs also had the A-B-C pin location wheels which I find to be very helpful although on this course sherpas would've been helpful too. The view from the top of # 17 is epic with Lake Tahoe glistening in the distance with boaters and para-sailers. The hole itself should be a world class epic hole if the basket were visible far below but with the basket placement in the far left position (blind) you're just chucking your disc down into the trees and hoping for a lucky break. I was very disappointed, especially after the EPIC climbs it took to get to this point.
Hole # 1 is a great hole. It's Epic or close to epic, probably 300' to a visible basket in a grove of pines far, far below.
I loved the engineering that went into # 8 with the bench and teepad being built into the hillside.
Many players will love the challenge, both playing and physical, that makes this course what it is.

Cons:

This course had far too many design flaws for me to ignore. In general the navigation was sketchy starting right away after # 10. There is a par-course trail that intertwines with the course on holes 11-15 and that was confusing.
# 11 plays along a dirt road. I'm never a fan of holes that play along existing roads or trails or parking lots. (See # 18 and # 9 below)
# 12 sign was faded and illegible.
# 15 & # 16 were back to back, straight up the mountain climbs. Yes, they're challenging but no-one enjoys throwing uphill.
# 17: For all it's EPIC beauty, And it truly breathtaking, the actual throw into the trees was a total disappointment for me. Heaving my disc 400' downhill into a grove of pine trees with no knowledge of where the basket is not my idea of fun. ***NOTE*** I lucked out and parked it here for a gimee birdie. I still received very little satisfaction out of that throw.
I was even more disappointed with # 18. It's like 700-1000' downhill hole, then plays across an asphalt road and a construction yard. Does anyone think that's a beautiful hole?
# 6 was another hole where the basket was hidden. Playing here the first time, I would have really enjoyed this hole had the basket been visible. It's a beautiful disc golf hole waiting to happen.
Were # 7 and # 9 long just for the sake of being long? And is there a reason for # 9 to play across a gravel lot? I found it a sad way to end my round.

Other Thoughts:

First thing, I admit, this is not the course to tackle by yourself the first time through. Spotters and a local to guide me through would have certainly enhanced my experience here. I would love to see some navigational signs added here and there. Maybe a couple less blind basket positions.
In conclusion, If you're looking to test your disc golf skills and challenge yourself, I recommend North Tahoe. Just be advised, the course is not for the faint of heart.

Pros:

Nice layout with a good use of the land provided.
Teeboxes were provided with signs to show hole locations.

Cons:

Signs showed hold locations however they didnt highlight the current pin placement
Having never played the course before I had some challenges finding the next hole. I enjoyed most of the holes especially the 17th however I wasn't a huge fan of the lackluster 18th hole. I thought they could have used the landscape versus just throwing down a road to get you back to the first hole.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course wasn't as scenic as Zephyr Cove but it did provide a good challenging course within striking distance from Reno

Difficult but not impossible 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very nice tees, generally good marking/signs at tees, map handouts on info board in pkg lot. Good difficulty without being impossible.

Cons:

For someone not familiar with course, very difficult to see pins from tees. We usually had to spot a person halfway or more down the hole. Maps on info boards at each tee looked like overhead photos, with multiple pin placements marked with distance. No marking of par, and these photos tended to be somewhat faded.

Sometimes difficult to figure out which pin placement was in place, and didn't notice whether all holes had "A" or "B", etc., placement.

Other Thoughts:

A very nice course for intermediate/advanced players without being impossible (like some of the ski run courses I've played, e.g. at Crested Butte).

Pros:

Tahoe Vista is yet another incredible course in the region! Once you drive into the course and up towards to the parking lot, you can just tell by your surroundings some epic golf is in store!
The atmosphere and crisp pine scented air is stimulating and a pleasant environment to throw plastic in.. and the Holes here at Vista don't disappoint one bit!
Hole 1 is at the top of sled hill shooting back down and the view is spectacular! The pin was nestled between two giant pine trees about 300ft away at the bottom - these shots are always fun!
Holes 2-4 are a very nice mix of holes with Hole 3 being a technical long right shot with a drop in elevation!
Hole 5 is one of the many Signature holes I believe; shooting from a semi elevated tee out of the woods into an open fairway with both Pin Placements being very difficult! One is out and up another hill to the right; a very hard run! The other is about 700ft to the left with the soccer fields being OB.. in either position it's intense!
Hole 9 is another very unique hole shooting from a tee with trees blocking left to a Pin on top of the hill next to the parking lot. With the OB behind it, it's a rough hole and even rougher just to get a drive to get up the hill!
There's a great mixture of Holes on the back but the ones that stand out the most for me are 14, 17, 18. Hole 14 having a Pin placement on top of a dead stump that's at least 6 feet high, crazy putting! Hole 17 a giant downhill shot with amazing amazing views! "Top of Tahoe" views that are similar to Zephyrs! Hole 18 is a shot out of the woods into another open fairway, except this fairway is 600+ft long! Very challenging Hole with wind; needing dead accurate drives!
Other Pros for this course are:
-Bathrooms on site, BBQ Pit, Pavilion
-Great Baskets & Putting Basket!
-Nice Tee Signs
-Good rubber tee pads (Getting better with time)
-Always great weather in Summer!
-Truckee Regional 15min Away!

Cons:

The only con is that it snows there half the year!
Can be frustrating for new golfers (not a beginner course)

Other Thoughts:

How does Getty keep doing it? Tahoe is quick-fast becoming another golf mecca in CA! With King of the Lake NT being hosted there this year... it's only going to get better! When you go to Tahoe you get some of the most epic views on this earth, the largest alpine lake in North America and you get to golf there! Awesome!

- Lots of elevation change, starting with a nice downhill on the first hole
- Mostly wooded with a few holes that realy open up and let you get some big rips
- Nice tee signs
- Rubber teepads
- Beutiful views of Lake Tahoe and the surounding mountains
- Multiple holes that could be signature holes on other courses
- Variety of shots required to play well
- Challenging
- Multiple pin positions that change some holes entirely
- Two loops that meet next to the parking lot so you can re-up your beer supply (or water if that's your thing)
- There's even a water hazard

Cons:

- Walk up the hill to hole 1 (rewarded with the throw down the hill with the view of Lake Tahoe in the background to start with)
- A couple of places could use signs pointing to the next hole
- Could be a bit too challenging for players lacking accuracy or distance
- Water hazard can get prety nasty and brown
- If you shank it realy far right on hole 1 you could end up hitting a parked car
- Course can be slightly hard to navigate your first time, you can either get a map if there's one behind the board, or do like I did and take a pic with a digital camera of the course map on the board and just use it.

Other Thoughts:

Tahoe Vista is an excelent course that just seems to get beter as time goes by. Alot of work has been put in just sence my first visit. Now I think it's a world class course that could challenge top pros as well as average joes. The tee signs are nice with an overhead picture of the hole showing all the pin positions with distances, when I was there last they were even marking the pin position on a piece of duct tape with the date. They have also done alot to get down the amount of manzanita on the course, not quite as much as at Zepher Cove, but they are working on alot of courses right now. This course is good enough that when I come through this spring or summer I'm going to play it yet again, and when I come through the next time, and the next time after that.

Epic challenges, epic scenery 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 19, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

I had been going up to Tahoe on highway 50 for so long that I forgot all about north Tahoe. The South Tahoe area had everything I wanted, great skiing, world-class hiking in the Desolation Wilderness, and of course several of the finest disc golf courses in California. Why go up north? Well, I finally did, and I am extremely happy that I made it to Tahoe Vista.

After paying an iron ranger and driving up into a nicely groomed park, one finds a big old sign explaining how the Tahoe Vista disc golf course is one of the finest examples of community partnerships and such. Nice message. The board is a bit rusted, but you could sort of make out the original map of the course, and imagine how nice that sign was before a few winters (and some vandal a-holes) beat it up.

The course begins on top of a sledding hill with a gorgeous view of the lake below. Take in big lungfulls of that wonderful pine-scented mountain air before beginning what I guarantee will be an epic round of golf. The course flow goes through a mixture of both long and short heavily wooded fairways, through a few long open fairways, and a good amount of up and down. This course really has just about everything. You need accuracy. You need a huge arm. You need to throw up, down, left, right, all in both short and very long arrangments.

The course ends with 2 very nice holes...Hole 17 plays straight down hill through a narrow fairway with an enticingly ace-able pin position in a clearing at the base of the hill. Hole 18 is a long fairway through an open gravel lot, and ending up way back behind tee pad 1. I don't recall the exact number, but this is a 1000'-ish hole.

There are nice bathrooms in the parking lot. Also lots of playgrounds and hiking trails around if you want to bring anyone who isn't really into playing an uber-challenging round of disc golf.

Cons:

The course wasn't the easiest to navigate the first time around, but we didn't have to search very long since we kept our eyes open for tees and baskets as we went along.

Other Thoughts:

This is a pro level disc golf course for big, accurate arms. The distances and accuracy required are pretty impressive, it made me feel inadequate at times, but my strongest emotion is to crave such challenges and try to meet them. This is not the best course for a new player, who I think would be very frustrated (rather than inspired) by the challenges at this course (I would instead recommend the Truckee course for newer players, which is only about 20 minutes away from TV).

We hiked/mountain biked from Regency which was a quarter mile north of the course. It was closer to our accomodations and saved us the parking fee. Plus we enjoyed the hike.
