Pros:
First off, thanks to Josh for building such a challenging course and opening up to the public! We need high level courses in the SEI area and this checks every box.
-This course rewards great control. Narrow, but well maintained fairways and demanding landing zones require well placed shots
-Each fairway has a clear line to hit. Longer holes have clear
landing zones to set up the upshot. If you hit the landing zone you'll be rewarded, but if you're off by even 20 feet you may find yourself pitching back to the fairway.
-This course is clearly cared for. The owner continues to find ways to improve the course and the fairways are cleared nicely. Also, new teepads, practice baskets, and great baskets show that this course is continually improving.
-Though the course is built on a relatively small property, the course takes full advantage of all terrain features. Uphill and downhill shots, island greens, defined OB, holes over 500 ft and others under 200 ft, mostly wooded but a couple open, this course offers great variety.
-A few holes are great for ace runs
-Baskets have great character, built on tree stumps, elevated, hanging, wedged between a V-split of a tree, or in the back of a truck bed, there's lots of variety
-Nice constructed backstops on a couple of holes
Cons:
-A few holes play along an old barbed wire fence which is OB
-The rough is still being cleared and there are plenty of thorns to greet an errant shot
-If you don't have control you'll have a long day.
-This course is definitely off the beaten path. It's worth the trip but for most people it is a trip. I'd suggest playing here and then going right up the road to Cedar Sentinel (County Farm) to make a day of the trip.
-Why are trees? There's a lot of them here.
Other Thoughts:
The Terwilliger's have built an excellent course in SEI. If you are skilled it will push your abilities, if you are still learning this course will definitely force you to get better. It's well worth your time. Be sure to drop a few bucks off at the donation box when you pull in!
