Bad Dog. Bad Dog.

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a fun, short, wooded, technical course. For as many ace runs, there are tight fairways and/or doglegs you have to carve in order to get close to the basket. So many trees at times to deal with.
- Accuracy. Accuracy. And, maybe a hint of luck too. The longest hole is 245 feet. I only carried two discs for my round. I only needed one more on a couple holes where I needed a throw to flip over.
- So, I was confused at times. I'm not sure how they fit the entire 18 holes in such a small space with zero overlap. I swear at times I expected to end up back at a hole I'd already played, or there'd be crossing fairways or paths. But, no. Each hole had it's own unique space.
- Good use of elevation. Holes 4 & 5 are the only two that are in the open.
- Good course for casual players. If you can somewhat control your shot and throw 200 feet, you'll enjoy this layout.
- #18 is the best hole. Downhill shot with the basket essentially on a small island with a small creek bed on each side. I'd assume everything is in bounds around here. But, it's a fun shot nonetheless.
- Lots of ace run chances. And because of this, lots of holes you may be wanting to throw multiple discs. #2 & 16 are two of the best examples of this.

Cons:

Course isn't glamourous by any means. Tee areas are marked by spray paint. Unless someone is re-painting once a year, there will need to be signage sooner than later.
- There is a strong sense of repetitiveness. This was a quick round. Udisc says I finished my round in 31 minutes. But, by early on the back nine, it was already feeling my round was dragging on.
- Navigation in general could be improved. Without the UDisc app, it would have taken time to simply the start of the course. There is no signage in the parking lot for the course. You'd be able to stumble upon baskets pretty quick. However, very few holes have any numbering. Without a map, or the other app, if you just walked onto the course, good luck figuring out what hole you're on.
- Course lacks all basic amenities – no benches, no trashcans, no bathrooms, etc.

Other Thoughts:

Ragsdale High School is a perfectly suitable short course. There are little to no frills here. Just simple disc golf.
- This might be one of the few courses that might be easier to navigate with leaves on the trees. The fairways will be better defined. Routes will be more visible. And, hopefully, those darn hidden finally trees will be easier to locate.
- For a school course, this is nice. For courses in the Triad, this fills a void.
- Why is the street the school on named Vickrey and not Vickery? A Vickery is cool. Vickrey seems like a typo.
- This a good course for Paul and for Paul's mom. If you know, you know. Just don't forget the newspaper.
- This isn't as good as short courses Crooked Creek or Creekside (in the Charlotte area). But, it is in the same ilk. And as such, I'm giving it the same 2.0 rating as those.
