Pros:
-Baskets OK (see cons)
-Concrete pads
-Signage OK (one step above DGA Peel n Stick (TM))
-Mixture of open, technical
Cons:
-Basket #8 missing
-#5, #6 and #7 can be not playable or lots of water at times
Other Thoughts:
Robert's Creek State Park hosts a passable DGC along the north shore of Lake Red Rock near Pella, IA. The course was decent at one time, but lack of any upkeep has had it fall into missing pieces. The #8 basket, which at one time was just dug up and sitting along the trail and now is missing all together. The course is also subject to the rise and fall of Lake Red Rock. When the lake is high, #5 and #6 become unplayable, with #7 tee potentially being underwater. With even a medium rise, #6 becomes a hole with a water hazard in the middle. The rest of the course is OK, a mix of somewhat narrow trails through the trees and more open through a grassy meadow shots. Late season has some pretty tall rough along the edges of the latter. They do keep the fairways mowed, but other than that, really no upkeep. The signage near #1 seems to state this is the "front 9", not sure if plans even still exist for a "back 9", but there is space along the south of this campground loop or to the east. Honestly, I'd move it all to one of these areas to take out the flooding aspect and replace at least the #8 basket. OK to bag, OK to play if you're camping at the site, but otherwise, I'd skip this one. I'll probably not play again.
