Not a total flop 2+ years

Pros:

Course Infrastructure:

Navigation is easy despite seeing a bunch of baskets on many of the tee pads or better put another way: it's a no brainer as to which basket is yours. Tee pads are concrete and not gigantic but don't need to be with every hole being under 200 feet. Baskets are in great shape and being in a nice area and a course that seems to be underused you can understand why. No litter or vandalism either thankfully.

Elevation:

Nice use of elevation on this course as it traverses a hill that the park is built on. There is another, larger hill overlooking the entire park that would have been nice to throw off of but taking into environmental viability aka erosion I'm glad from that perspective it wasn't used. Although the holes at this course are really short the elevation kind of messes with your mind when on the tee no matter if you're throwing up hill or down the course plays differently than the hole distances would lead you to believe.

Hole 3:

This hole is interesting as it makes you carry a water hazard in the form of a pond. It's basically the same shot as every other hole on the course (wide open and short) but somehow harder as it gets in your head. if you throw off to the right there is a little stream that's part of the water hazard but ups your percentage of staying dry.

Aesthetics and other park activities:

I got to have this course and this park all to myself. It was quiet and pretty, nice to look at with the pond there and also fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. The course isn't great but I would stop here just to walk around. There is also an awesome jungle gym, slide, and other activities for kids or young adults as well as bathrooms that are also in excellent shape. There is even a basketball hoop in the parking lot.

ACE RUNS!

Cons:

Wide open holes and I do mean wide open holes that are just much too short to challenge anything other than beginners, even my super class discs made quick work of this course.

Other Thoughts:

This is fine for the local kids and maybe some course baggers but overall just avoid unless you like pretty walks in the park. This is another bad course in an area full of bad courses. I think "passable" is about right.

Good Putter/ Mid Range Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Finally Played this course. Great putter course or just starting to play. In a great little park in Hyrum. Holes are really short ranging from 130 ft to 190 ft. Great place to practice throwing your putter or up shot with Mid Range or if you are working on your side arm throw this works great for that to. Able to Ace holes with nothing really in your way. Pretty much all shots are open. Only hole 3 is the challenge with water.

Cons:

Wished the holes were longer or just some of them. Really didn't have to throw hard. Hole 5 sign is missing. There was no tee pads. You can see where the oval pads were but they have been removed, but you don't have to run up to throw.

Also in the summer time I bet it gets busy with kids. They might be running around. Maybe go early in the day or morning.

Other Thoughts:

Great place to start playing disc golf for beginners or just trying to hone your skills with a putter or mid range, or working on your side arm, approach shots, small hyzers and anhyzers. Or you would like to see what that new putter does. Test new disc (Putter and Mid Range).

I have to give this a 2-2.5 just because the holes are short and really not technical. Really good baskets

Good Youth Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Salt Hollow Park is a small city park located in the city of Hyrum. The park contains restrooms, playgrounds, picnic pavilion, and a splash park. It has a sled park for the winter and a pond and stream water feature. It also has a short 9 hole disc golf course playing around all of this. All of the holes play less than 200 feet but offer a variety of elevation changes as they play through all of the parks features. The stream and pond make excellent OB features for the course. It is a very good youth course and good beginner friendly course, although the pond may make for some lost discs. The holes are short so most advanced players will only be practicing their upshots and putts here but still enjoyable. There are 9 Innova Discatchers with small rock teepads. Excellent ace opportunities and the course plays quite fast, a typical round would be between 20 and 30 minutes.

Cons:

Tee pads. The teepads are these weird small ovals that are rough cut stone mortared. Although the stone look good for garden paths, it doesn't work so well for teepads. You're probably not going to get a run up on any of these pads, but the good news is you hardly are going to need it with the length of the holes.

Length. The holes are short. Every hole is aceable for any skilled player.

Open. Almost every hole is wide open, although there is OB factored in to make it more challenging.

Multi-Use Park. When we were there, the kids were in the playground and splash park, but we pretty much had the disc golf area to ourselves. I could see other activities interfering with the play of the course though, and rendering some holes if not the entire course unplayable, this is a small park.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very fun youth/beginner/family friendly course. It works good as an introduction to the game, while allowing more experienced players to practice their upshots and putting.
