Pros:

I'm not sure if I've played a more disjointed course than Star. The open holes are all pretty good by small town, nine-hole standards. The wooded holes were the worst I've seen, unless searching for a disc in the middle of the fairway for 5 minutes is normal.
- Hole #1 is a nice opener. Short layout that requires you to carve the shot around a couple of mature pines.
- #7 is a nice shot that goes over a small creek. At 235 feet, this is the longest of the open/field holes.
- #8 & 9 are two more perfectly suitable layouts. The former plays slightly uphill to a basket protected by more pines. The latter plays slightly downhill, back right where you came from. #7 & 9's baskets are close to each other, so don't get confused.
- The first half of #6 is good as well. You start in the field, alongside the tree line. At some point you're supposed to transfer to the woods. Good luck with that.
- The UDisc online map is pretty accurate. You won't be able to navigate the course without it. Some holes have some semblance of tee markers, so take advantage of them.
- The blue disc golf sign in the picture might be the nicest thing about this course.

Cons:

Simple placing a basket in the woods does not equate to a hole. Unfortunately, that seems to be the logic of holes #2, 3, 4, 5, and part of 6.
- The ground cover (ivy and/or kudzu) is deep and thick. This is your 'fairway' on holes #2, 3, and 4. It was deeper than my shoes. Now, I know what you're saying. Throw a pink disc. I did that, saw about where it landed, and it still got hidden in the middle of the fairway 200 feet away. When I finally found my disc, which was completely covered by the growth, it was less than 15 feet from where I set my bag and started searching.
- So, basically, you can risk losing a disc or waste time searching for it. Either way, you're getting mad about wasting time on a garbage hole, throwing to a garbage basket, on a garbage basket, in the back of a sketchy, garbage park.
- Imagine having bought a cheap portable basket 15 years ago. Now, imagine leaving outside in the elements the entire time. Imagine throwing it out, but someone picks it out of the garbage. Good news. We know where your basket ended up.
- Poor, inconsistent signage. Some holes have tee markers. Even the quality of what was used isn't consistent.
- Completely neglected park. Get in, play as fast as you can, and get out.
- I was actually sad instead of angry at the horrid condition of the baskets. How are you supposed to win over new players with a course like this? Honestly, disc golf is probably the only legal activity that goes on here.

Other Thoughts:

Star DGC ...is. If you take the four best holes, and possibly a fifth if #6 was fixed, and had four more holes of that same quality, you would have a suitable, average, 1.5 - 2.0 rated course. Nine holes the quality of #2 - 5 and this would be, no doubt, the worst nine-hole course I've ever seen. Even worse than the old garbage 9-holer in Marion.
- I don't know how a course that's a year or so old can be this neglected. If there's been an maintenance on the wooded holes since the course was installed would be a surprise.
- There could be a perfectly suitable 9-holer here. There's no sense wasting money on new(er) baskets if they're getting placed in the woods. But, nobody is coming here with this colossal disaster.
- I was listening to a podcast about Jonestown while I was playing. Completely coincidental, but very appropriate as the thought crossed my mind that a body could be disposed in the woods, and it wouldn't be discovered until the next disc golfer comes here to play.
- I don't think a rating will give this course an accurate feel. The good half of this course is enjoyable, The bad half is amongst the worse disc golf I've ever played. I guess a 1.0 is a fair rating.
- Simply put, the Stones were right about this course. Although, I don't think that's what they meant in their song.
