Ok Track 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very easy to navigate.
Won't lose very many discs on this course.
Not crowded when I played.

Cons:

Crappy grass tees.
Some signs are damaged.
Too open.

Other Thoughts:

This course has some potential. It is definitely lacking some challenge on the back side. If tees were added, I would give it a 3.

Becomes Tedious Quickly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 6, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A pretty large area. Minus the 3 water holes, it's pretty hard to lose a disc.

Cons:

Poor course design. Some trees need about 20 more years before they become obstacles.

Other Thoughts:

After playing the course 10+ times, I'm now to the point where I pick and choose which holes I want to play. The course just seems too open. Some holes are challenging, but not in a way that makes it exciting to play. However, the holes that I do play are fun enough to keep me coming back to at least play a collective 9 holes.

Mixed Bag 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 25, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Tees are marked with direction and distance. A fair variety of shots, distance and challenge. Large park with plenty of opportunity to rip out some long shots.

Cons:

Tee boxes are rutted and get muddy after rain. A few holes get pretty soggy with fair amount of rain. Can sometimes get crowded with park goers. Local high schools uses the park for cross country meets. First half of the back nine are too bland until the trees planted there mature.

Other Thoughts:

All around this course give you a little taste of everything (this is subjective). Pond in play on three holes can easily take your disc. The course map/score card pdf in the files section has hole #16 marked incorrectly (aerial map is correct). Favorite holes are #3, #9 and #16. I'm more than happy this park is so close to where I live.

Will get better over time 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 24, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good mix of long holes and short. Maintenance is excellent, almost always mowed up and nice. Signs marking tee and footage for each hole. A few elevation changes add some interest to an otherwise flat back 9.

Cons:

Back half of the course is flat and open. Several holes are back and forth play with no challenge or obstacle other than distance. If it rains, several of the holes can become wet to the point of unplayable.

Other Thoughts:

This course is already a good course that will only become better as the numerous trees that have been planted start to grow and mature. Well worth the trip to play.

C = As average as the come 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

What I personally like and how this course stacks up:
1) Holes with good risk/reward -- C-
2) Holes that have rewarding birdie opportunities -- C-
3) More wooded than open - lots of variety of shots required caused by hole shape and topography -- C
4) Natural beauty (Appalachian beauty preferred) and seclusion -- C+
5) Multi-shot holes with defined landing zones, good risk/reward and multiple options to play them -- C-

Other Thoughts:

I ranked this course subjectively based on my own personal enjoyment factor...more accurately my "personal addiction factor". Since I have played a decent number of courses (115 18-hole, 50 9-hole as of early 2009), my hope is that players/explorers who have similar tastes will find my ratings list helpful as they chose courses to play and explore.

Over time, I expect to fill some of my reviews in with more descriptive verbiage...if what I say adds anything to what has already been written. For now, my list is more important to me than the verbiage of my reviews.

I fully expect others with different tastes/philosophies to disagree with me. See my profile for my rating philosophy.

Needs some work 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 29, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The holes have some distance. Not huge distance, just good old fashioned long par 3 distance that makes most of us pull a driver out of the bag. Given all the pitch and putt courses in the area, someplace where you can open up and throw a driver is a welcome change.

Cons:

From the tee for # 1 you can see three baskets and it's not abundantly clear which one you should throw at. From the tee for # 2 you can see two baskets pretty close together. On hole # 7 you can see two baskets on either side of a pond, both about 500 ft away with no help on the tee sign to tell you which one you are shooting at. You just have to guess (I guessed wrong!) A lot of the tees are too close to a nearby basket for safety, and there is plenty of room to avoid these conflicts.

On a number of holes you have to backtrack back toward the last tee to get to the next tee. This can cause backups when the group behind you waits for you to get out of the way, and safety concerns when they don't.

There are a number of young trees planted on the course. In 20 years they may add some challenge if they survive. Right now the course is wide open. There is some slight elevation that the course uses, but some of the holes are flat as a pancake. Flat and wide open does not make for great golf.

The tees are dirt and a rutted out. The tee signs are vandalized and hard to read. Even if they were not vandalized, they just list the hole, par and distance...no picture to help you figure out which of the two or three baskets you are looking at you should throw to.

Other Thoughts:

There is no parking lot for this park. I don't consider this a con, but it should be mentioned in the course directions. I wasted a lot of time driving around looking for a parking lot.

Between the geese and the neighborhood dogs, I have never before experienced so much fecal material in one place before. Nobody can really do anything about that, so I can't call it a con. That doesn't keep it from being gross. You should bring an extra towel.

One day when the trees mature, this might be a pretty good course. However, mature trees won't fix the bad signage, bad tees, and poor flow of this course. For it to be anything more than an OK course, this course will need a redesign to eliminate the switchbacks and put some space between the tees and the baskets.

lots of potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 24, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

nice mix of long holes and short. some wooded holes. great way to use the pond.

Cons:

young course so the people that dont really know what disc golf is tend to wander in front of you while playing.

Other Thoughts:

this course has lots of potential being a newer course. once all the trees the park district has planted become larger this course will have lots of challenges and flight patterns for each hole. its awsome they have a few holes that throw over small parts of the pond, every course that has a pond or water should utilize it in some way that way people arent scared to throw over water. plenty of long holes to open up on, till the trees get bigger. all in all its a great place to practice.

Not terrible, but not good 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very pretty course. Decently laid out over a large park...lots of room to play

Cons:

Way, WAY too long...totally punishes players who can't totally crush their drives. Three shots play around a lake, which isn't necessarily bad, but shots over water just seem unnecessary. TONS of geese and geese poop, so don't wear shoes you like. Very little challenge at all, other than having to muscle every single shot. No major elevation changes. Wind totally kills your shots.

Other Thoughts:

It isn't the worst course I ever played, but I wouldn't choose to go back here. There's just no challenge, outside of throwing hard. I can see where this would be a good place to work on a new forehand shot or if you wanted to practice with any kind of shots. If you wanted to consider this a very loooong practice course, then I wouldn't blame you. With very little challenge, and maybe a few holes in a sparsely wooded area, this isn't a very good course.

So boring I didn't finish 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 9, 2006 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy. Good if you want to practice distance throws (and don't have any other big empty field handy).

Cons:

INSANELY wide open, and no challenge other than distance. Boring.

Other Thoughts:

Out of 20 courses, this is the only course I've ever left w/o finishing because the course made me not want to bother- there are plenty of other courses within a half hour of here and even the worst of them is more interesting than this. The first hole has no obstacle at all- you're just throwing down an incline. The next hole has some trees surrounding the green, and the third tee is in those trees, so I was expecting things to pick up after that. I came out of the trees after teeing off, looked out at the rest of the course, put my just-thrown disc in my bag and left for another course. I've since talked to someone else who's played the course, and discovered that about a third of the holes have a tree in play somewhere- sad as that is, it's better than I thought. There's some elevation change, and the pond is in play on a few holes, but other than that it's wide open. I will never go back, and the only reason I'm rating this as high as 1 instead of 0.5 is that, to be fair, I didn't actually play the whole thing.

2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 3, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The few holes around the lake are fantastic. They large trees to contend with and require accuracy. One of them is quite a long hole.
A few interesting holes were you drive out of the woods into the open (hole 3 i believe) and one were you throw from a hill top into the woods (barely).

Cons:

The majority of the course is wide open (although many trees have been planted and in time they will grow large enough to impact the course play). What woods that are in the park are barely utilized. Not worth the time to play if your visiting the area.

Very Nice Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 24, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Beautiful course (especially around the lake). Very well maintained. It uses some slight elevation. Utilizes the lake on a couple shots. It has a nice combination of long crusher holes and short ace run holes.

Cons:

With the exception of 4 or 5 holes, it is pretty wide open. With that being said, sunscreen is definitely needed here. Not much shade at all. The teepads are dirt. There's really no anhyzer shots that I can remember.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, I really enjoy this course. It's a good course to enjoy a relaxing round of golf but don't expect it to be a technical course or have a lot of variety.

Great for the long disc 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

This course is great if you really want to air it out, or try some new drives. There are about 7 holes that are wide open and long distance. Large course, little challenge

Cons:

A bit boring and bland. It is a well laid out course, and I could not think of a better way to do it in that park, but besides distance shots, it is not to much challenge

Other Thoughts:

plan for an afternoon, this course takes a while to get through.
