A Magestic Monster Indeed 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

This true Monster of a course was installed on a now defunct golf course about 30 minutes northwest of Panama City and even has its own website! (http://monsteratmajette.com/) It's a virtual caddy book with details on the various layouts.

Speaking of layouts there's something here for everybody. Most holes have either two tees and/or two baskets to cater to your skill level.

The most challenging layout brings the various ponds in to play. It also uses the palm trees on a few holes as mandos to inject some technicality into the mostly open property. The "easy" layout takes a lot of the water out of play but still offers plenty of challenge for those of us rated in the 800s and below.

The turf tee pads are color coded and have excellent grip. I was playing around 7am in dew covered grass but the pads weren't slippery at all.

The dunes here are expertly used to provide some elevation. Some of the baskets are placed on slopes and a couple holes have you teeing off of them.

The tee signs are perfectly descriptive and each basket has a next tee sign. The layout is pretty easy to follow but I did get a little hung up from hole 9 to hole 10.

Cons:

I've read it can be quite windy here at times. It was a little breezy for me but nothing terrible socYMMV.

There's really not much here except the course itself and some port-a-potties. Construction crews were working on a building of some sort so that may change in the future.

If you lose a disc in the water here it's as good as gone. There's a lot of dense foliage around the water's edge in addition to the threat of alligators.

Other Thoughts:

If you find yourself in the Panama City area this course is a must-play. It caters to almost every skill level and blends wide open distance shots with enough tight/technical holes to keep you honest.
