Best Course in the area! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Cool Course Layout.
-Good variety of lengths and fairway layouts.
-Will challenge your accuracy and your distance at times.
-Only $5 on the honors system in the clubhouse
-Seriously nice owner! (Didn't realize it was cash only, couldn't pay for my candy bar, and he said "Just pay me back the next time you come")

Cons:

-Super easy to lose a disc or two
-Kinda out in the middle of nowhere.
-Basket Layout can be a little confusing (although they do have each basket marked with the hole number, if you can't read it from far away, you can throw to the wrong basket pretty easily)
-Lots of water :p

Other Thoughts:

This was a seriously fun and challenging course to play on. I ended up losing two discs playing for the first time, but I was able to leave my information with the owner at the clubhouse, and he said he'd look for them, and get back to me. The owner is seriously super nice, and if nobody's in the clubhouse, they go off the honors system with a little cash box, so be nice and pay the $5 for your round. I'd recommend giving this course a shot for sure. It's kinda out in the middle of nowhere, but the drive isn't too far from La Crosse or Onalaska.

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete tees, baskets were in great shape, get to air it out on a couple holes, shot shaping on most holes, local owner in a small town, beautiful countryside. There is a clubhouse with supplies, a goofy golf course, a golf driving range. He will call you if he finds your disc. Money is put back into the course.

Cons:

Rough is insane, lost 3 discs in super thick matted grass. Par for each hole is almost too generous, basically everything should be a 3 with a couple 4's on the back 9.

Other Thoughts:

Owner was on his tractor in the parking lot when we arrived, super nice guy. He collected our 5.00 and said he'd stay a couple fairways up cutting grass. You will have to shape multiple shots around trees and water hazards. Tee pads are different sorts of concrete slabs, some looked like ankle biters but were very stable and not slippery in the least.

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is private and located in a small town so I doubt it would ever be too busy. The baskets are mixed but all were in great shape and caught well. The tees are also mixed but were in decent shape and served their purpose just fine. Water in play on many holes, more than half in some form it seemed like. Elevation used well on holes 9 and 11. They provide maps in the clubhouse which help with navigation, though it was laid out well and pretty easy to follow without the map.

Cons:

A few of the non concrete tees are in pretty rough shape especially when wet. Pay to play but worth it.

Other Thoughts:

This was a fun course to play for sure. It's definitely worth a round or two if you're in the area but not really anything to go out of your way to play.

Pros:

Challenging
Beautiful layout

Basket positioning

Cons:

Water does come into play on a few holes, I know that shouldn't be a con but it is for me because I love going in the water for my discs in my boxers (sarcasm) lost 3 today out there.

Other Thoughts:

This course is definitely not for beginners. It's going to cost you $4 to play so that should tell you they've put some real effort into making it difficult. I consider myself to be a decent disc golfer and this course is not easy for me, even with 7.5 years experience.

Pros:

Course designed well, with multiple hazards and different looks for each hole, challenging in a good way for less experienced players.

Cons:

Not kept-up well for being considered a 'tournament' course, signage was poor with no course or hole map (no-one was in shop to inform us of map either).

Other Thoughts:

With a little maintenance this course could easily go up a full rating.

White knuckle water ride! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 23, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Signage and maps are extremely helpful and visible, preventing any confusion as to where the current or next hole is.
+ Tee pads are long enough for a long run-up, or short, and are in good condition.
+ Placement of trees force a variety of shots, especially on the shorter holes.
+ The depth, width, and flow of the creeks force you to consider the risk/reward of your tee shots and approaches (tactful and intelligent use of water hazards)
+ Elevation is limited, but tastefully applied on holes #9-#11.
+ Bob sells beverages and snacks out of the clubhouse.
+ Bob! He's a great guy. Play, have fun, and support Twin Creeks DGC :)

Cons:

- Basket chains need repair, many outside chains were hanging loosely.
- Only 2 legitimate par 4 holes. #15 is pretty much a driving range 'bomb' hole. Adding trees near the tee, or the approach, or the basket would add more character and could force players to think through their shots differently.

Other Thoughts:

I drove a little over an hour, from Fort McCoy, WI, to try something different. I am so glad I took the time and had the opportunity to play this course and meet Bob.

Bob, the owner, is a wonderfully kind and generous man. He has developed an entertainment destination for adults and kids alike. The volleyball courts, mini-golf, and 'ball' golf driving range are near the clubhouse; the disc course plays around all of that with only the driving range possibly interfering on #15. (See map in links section)

I thought it was going to be gimmikie, but I was rather impressed with what Bob was able to do with the space he had. The water hazards, mostly creeks, is the most significant challenge to this course.

It's not that the pins are obnoxiously or unintelligently positioned, they are not; they are placed in positions where you can throw a good line and make a good shot. However, there are trees surrounding some pins that could deflect your shot straight into a deep creek bed with a flowing current, making it difficult if not impossible to retreive a disc. (Bob will call you, though, if he retrieves any discs with phone numbers)

The water challenges you to make a smart shot, whether that's lacing it on a line over a creek and through some trees or to lay up safely for an approach.

This course isn't at all a championship level course, but it is unique and challenging enough to provide some fun and excitement!

Bob has put together a great course that is worth playing, you should definitely play if you're in the area or passing through!

Water is everywhere! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 8, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

A variation of hole types. Good views and water challenges.

Cons:

Water hazards are EVERYWHERE! There are about 14 of them. Very easy to lose a disc if you try to go for a shot and fail. Because of all the water hazards and the sloping of the land water has a tendency to pool in the area making for a wet experience.

Other Thoughts:

Three of us went discing a round at this course and I was the only one who walked away not losing a disc. When I say it's easy to lose a disc it's easy. Caution is required with all the water hazards.

Intermediate 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 22, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Course is set in a multi-activity center that is a pay-to-play; the other things to do like mini-golf and a ball golf driving range aren't really in play. A few holes have the potential to come close to the driving range, so heads up!
- The most prominent feature of this course are the numerous creeks and ponds that come into play, and they come into play often. #5 and #6 both play with the creek close on the left, #8 and #16 have water crossing the fairway near the basket, #14 and #15 are long hyzers over the creek on the left, #13 has the creek on right, #10 has a small pond before the green, etc. etc. There are many chances to get wet here, and provide most of the challenge.
- While there aren't too many wooded holes, there are enough trees here and there to make things interesting. #11 is a very tight, downhill double mando, and #10 is a long dogleg right around some woods. #8 has many gaps to hit when going over the creek, and holes #2-#5 have smattering of trees and bushes to force line shaping or protect the basket.
- Lines are pretty open, but there are some places where a left or right shot is required. A lot of open/RHBH hyzer shots, to be sure, but holes like #4, #10, and #18 are good for a LHBH drive or approach.
- A few spots with decent elevation changes; like the uphill green to #9, the uphill drive and approach on #10, and the downhill floater shot on #11.
- Pretty good teepads; the mini-golf turf pads are great, the concrete blocks are slotted which is a little awkward. Good baskets (with lights?), navigation isn't too bad but the map helps. Some rakes near water hazards to help retrieve discs.

Cons:

- Apart from a small section, the course is pretty flat, and pretty much open. The biggest hazard by far is the water, which presents some gnarly sloped terrain by some of the riverbeds.
- A little cramped in a few spots, like around hole #9 and #13. Some baskets in sight aren't the correct ones to shoot at, which is where the map comes in handy.

Other Thoughts:

- All in all, a pretty fun course that allows for some basic line shaping, and more importantly hitting landing zones. Players with bigger arms will be able to challenge the rivers and try to clear some of the longer hazards, others will have to lay up and play for an open approach. Advanced players will be able to cruise through, beginners might be in for a long round.

70% of Earth is H2O. 15% of that is Twin Creeks. :| 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 22, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Twin Creeks DGC is located on a crazy sort of amusement property replete with all sorts of kids' activities, strange species of deer in a fenced-in area that one of the holes plays alongside, and a pro shop that sells beer and snacks. For the most part, the DGC does a good job of avoiding the other activities on the property.
- Water. Two creeks, two lakes, and 14 chances to get your disc wet out of 19 holes. Expect to throw alongside water, to have to drive over water, and to lay up prior to making an upshot over water. While none of the water carries are incredibly long, and all of them have bail-out safety zones that are easily reachable, to score well here most players will have to take a few risks around the water hazards. The creeks are swiftly flowing in places, mostly with steep banks that make retrieving a wet disc a bit of an adventure.
- Elevation. Elevation, while not crazy, is diverse enough to really spice up the round. #9's basket sits on a nice little hilltop, creating a fairly fast green. #10 plays uphill to a defined landing zone short of a swampy little pond. The basket sits on the other side. #11 is a short downhill ace run, provided you can zing it straight through the narrow gap in the trees between two mandatories.
- Adequate tees, signage, etc. Bathrooms in the proshop.
- I did mention the pro shop sells beer, right?

Cons:

- There are a few spots where the course flow is obviously a bit of a safety issue. One hole's tee (#15, I believe) is directly in the killzone of people teeing off on #14. #14 forces a long water carry or a lay-up. The lay-up area is basically #15's teepad. One or two other spots likewise have some awkward flow or overlap.
- The banks of the rivers make retrieving discs a bit of a dicey proposition except for those with the utmost agility. While I personally don't find this a con, others of more limited mobility might find this a bit off-putting.
- While the designer did the best with the land available, several of the holes seem like variations on "back over the creek...again".

Other Thoughts:

- A solid, and at times challenging course that will test your ability to hit landing zones, avoid the multitude of water hazards, and navigate a few tricky, technical, tunnel-like shots. Definitely a full day of fun for the entire family on offer at Twin Creeks!

A little flat and open 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 22, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through a mostly flat porperty with a mix of open areas and thick rough. Some of the holes play along woods with heavy undergrowth. Two creeks run through the area, offering nice ob areas and adding risk along fairways and around greens. There are a few great pin placements with risky rollaway potential or lurking water to make you really think on the approach. Many of the water hazards have poles or rakes to make disc retrieval easier.

There are concrete tees on most holes, and the flow of the course is easy to follow. Maintenance was good, all the fairways were mowed and in nice shape. There is decent length variety, with a couple longer holes that offer a chance to air out a drive and some ace runs.

Cons:

There are some major safety issues here, with several spots that have you throwing over other tees or greens. Too many of the fairways play close to one another or to the entrance road, with a lot of people on the course there could easily be conflicts. There are some areas of tall grass, not my favorite obstacle on a course. It gets a little frustrating especially with prairie rough right along many of the water hazards that make it tough to see where the disc lands and whether it entered the hazard.

The course is a little open for my taste, with a lot of holes that don't really force you to shape specific lines. That can make the course feel a little repetitive at times. Several of the tees seem to be repurposed pieces of concrete that have large slots in them, my foot got caught in them a couple times and it got distracting.

Other Thoughts:

Beginners will find this course mostly pretty approachable, with more open shots and lots of reasonable lengths. The water hazards and scattered areas of thicker rough could be a little daunting for newer players. More experienced players will find a few really cool holes, and several that just don't have a whole lot of interesting challenges.

The pro shop is stocked with some plastic and lots of reasonably priced snacks and drinks, and the owners were very nice when we visited.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I love a challenge, with 19 holes and 14 water hazards. Easy to understand map. They made a good use of elevation and the two creeks that flow threw. The holes are marked nicely, the grass was mowed so even if i grip locked it a little all my discs were still easy to be found. when the water hazards were out of site there was a sign warning you. It was very nice to see that both rakes and nets are scattered along the banks of the creek so water retrieve was not hard. I feel like this would be a great course for tournaments, we were talking to the gentleman in the pro shop and he said they were yet to have a tourny but said he thought that would be great. The distance from baskets to the next pad is spread out well so the risk of hitting other players is very low.

Cons:

A little bit of standing water in the fields, but it rained the night before. The pads were a little slick, but the cement ones were not at all.

Other Thoughts:

I thought this course had lots of potental the baskets were in nice spots, even thought it would be fantastic to make it a little more challenging and move some of the baskets farther back.

If i didn't live 3 hours away i would definatly be there everyday!

He doesn't get funding which makes it necessary to charge people to play. You can purchase a season pass for $75 which is a good deal if you play a lot. Great Time! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 12, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is nestled in a neat area with water hazards on 7 of the 9 holes. The water hazards make the course quite technical, with a few pins in more open area to allow for some distance shots. Most have a Pro and Amateur tees, with orange flags denoting the amateur tees and blue flags for pro tees. My wife and I played the amateur tees on the first round and Pros the second. Since the creek (and a few deeper ponds) come into play so often, the course owners put long rakes along the bridges to fish out discs, which happened a few times for us. All tees are artificial turf and hole putting areas on some are artificial turf, most are natural grass. For hole descriptions, I will reference the Pro Tees.

Hole 1- Starts near parking lot. Low hanging trees and a thick brush along the creek bank make for a low, hard shot. Go for a slight hyzer around the pine tree for good placement. Don't go long on your second shot, you will end up in the drink where the creeks split.

Hole 2- After crossing the creek to your right, you will tee off heading straight. Keep along the right side of the line of red flags for good placement. The pin is nestled, literally, right on the bank of the creek by a bridge. If you lay short on your tee, you can take a chance by heading low and hyzering around the bridge (what I did).

Hole 3- I actually enjoyed the amateur tees more on this one. The pro tees are right along the creek with a long shot. The pin is located on top of a steep bank. Playing the am tees, had 1 bounce off the basket from the tee shot. Fun hole, but don't overshoot your putt, you may end back down the other side of the bank.

Hole 4- Long, straight tee shot will put you good placement at the foot of another bank. If you are uncomfortable going over the pond from just below the bank, there is large sign warning of a water hazard. Aim at the sign to stay left on the high (and dry) side of the bank. Nice shot/approach from that spot.

Favorite Hole- #5. You tee off on the top of a steep hill with the basket right below you at about 175'. Use your putter and aim right in between the trees. There are two arrows which help you find the best path. Had one actually made it through. The basket is conveniently placed right in front of a large tree, which did help me from overshooting the hole.

Hole 6- Good hole off the pro tee. Stay on the near side of the creek and stay right of the bridge. Large bush right in front of basket forces you to make a long tee shot for a set up. Had a disc go into creek on this hole.

Hole 7- Tee is elevated slightly with hole placed on the left. The tall grass on the left is not water marsh (thankfully) so you obviously want to hug the right if a RHBH thrower. Another pond sits right behind the basket so once again, don't overshoot that second throw (or off the tee if you have a long drive).

Hole 8- Since I am not a big driver, the Am tees where enjoyed by my wife and I. It's not too often for me to overshoot a hole off the tee, but I did on this one. Pond comes into play off the Am tees, and from the approach from the pros. Stay to the right again and you won't have any trouble. Tall grass is right behind the putting area, so prepare to do some searching if it is over shot.

Hole 9- Finally a straight hole with no water! Definitely a Par 4 distance, objects coming into the way are a windmill, a few trees and some bushes. Nice hole to end the round. Take a few minutes and sit in one of the covered picnic tables!

Cons:

Could use some footage signs from tee to pin, and note Par for each hole at the Am and Pro Tees. I would say most fall into the Par 3, and Par 4 range. The artificial turf tees are very nice, but a bit narrow and short on some occasions.

Other Thoughts:

My wife and I play only recreationally, so take the notes/advice for what it's worth. Since I'm a RHBH thrower, my throws all naturally hyzer a bit, so I often had to play safe and hug the right side.

But definitely make it a fun day! The $3 per person for a full day is more than worth it. There is also a golf driving range, miniature golf course, two volleyball courts, a disc golf basket and practice area, and a nice snack bar. We were very impressed at the layout, especially with the creeks encompasing the entire area (hence the name Twin Creeks). We got the best ever course map from the snack bar, hand drawn up by a 9 year old! We will be returning!
