Pretty Good 2+ years drive by

Pros:

- Clear tee signs- well-maintained grass

Cons:

- At least 3 holes play through a parking lot or parking lot adjacent, so it would be bad to play if there were any church activities going on- Straight shooting is very important as the out of bounds line runs very close to the fairway - The basket on 5 is too low to the ground- Many shots play close to church buildings

Other Thoughts:

It\'s clear that the mandate was to fit the course on the church property. Given that constraint, the course is about as good as could be expected.

Pros:

Just a couple miles from the I-75/I-40 split southwest of Knoxville, the Two Rivers Church DGC provides a convenient location to quickly stretch your legs.

The nine-hole course offers plenty of nearby parking, and a paper course map and scorecard is available at the first teepad. The signs are heavenly in their design; they include a clear number, the distance and a detailed map. Navigation didn't seem completely instinctual, especially for the first few holes, but the map helps.

The Mach II baskets are new and catch well, though the basket for Hole #4 is a bit low in the ground. The teepads are clean, level and appear high enough to avoid being covered by erosion. The fairways are mostly grassy, with just a couple paved walkways in play.

The course is fairly flat, though Hole #2 features a small rounded valley. Hole #3 is slightly uphill. And Hole #7 has just enough of a rise that the basket is just out of view.

I played the course on a Friday afternoon and the area was mostly vacant, except for a few cars in the parking lot between the course and the actual church.

Cons:

The course is definitely shoehorned into the utilized space. If the facilities are being used, a couple holes might be nearly unplayable due to cars.

The teepads are a bit short, but the placement of the signs is the unpardonable sin, as the post is just a few feet from the front-left corner of the teepad and serves as a clear distraction.

Many obstacles come into play on this course. On Hole #1, The Shed building and covered walkway are possible barriers. On Hole #2, the teepad is positioned nearly behind The Shed and features a tight line between the facility and the OB tree line. The basket for Hole #3 is maybe 50 feet to the left of an on-property house. The direct line to the Hole #4 basket plays mostly over a parking lot, which apparently is not OB. Hole #5 includes a fence and residential backyards on the left-side border. The basket for Hole #8 is near another building. And finally, the short Hole #9 is squeezed near two buildings and long drives will likely hit the house. I played a couple of the holes conservatively in order to avoid hitting anything.

Other Thoughts:

The Two Rivers Church DGC isn't perfect in its design, but we'll offer grace to the designer, who was limited by the space available. The course difficulty is low, which aligns well with the intended audience. However, due to the proximity of the course to buildings and parking lots, it's only a matter of time until an errant disc breaks something.

Hopefully, forgiveness will be offered and they won't have hell to pay.
