9 holes with nice Dynamic Discs baskets. Beginner level, but still as enough trees to influence the lines. Grassy park that is compact and plays fast.

Flat and short holes range from open to low ceiling line drives. Mid range and putter will do the job on most holes.

Hole 1 is open aside from a couple of trees and the fence line to the right. 2 is the longest hole and wide open. 3 is the toughest line to hit under a canopy of tree branches. 4-9 skirt tree trunks, but fairways are not too crowded and branches are well pruned.

Natural tees are unmarked and can be hard to locate. Worn patches in the turf indicate several of them, look around.

Park hosts community events, picnics and playgrounds. Can be crowded. They were setting up for a spooky Halloween weekend when I visited, but we were able to get through without much interruption.

This is a good one to learn the game for new players, but established disc golfers won't find a lot to excite them here. Great for a little stroll between nearby shops and restaurants.

This type of course can be tough to review, as it is intended as a family-friendly pitch-and-putt and not a challenging disc golf track. Hole lengths are very modest, with most playing in the 150' - 200' range.

There are plenty of well-spaced trees to add interest and challenge to the holes. There are a couple of wide open holes, but most require some shot-shaping to reach the basket cleanly.

There is a bit of elevation to work with. Nothing steep or even significant, but enough to add interest.

No tee pads, no tee signs. With the exception of two holes with little utility flags stuck into the ground, there are no designated tee locations. This seems a significant change since WD09's review just last month.

I relied on the UDisc map to locate tee locations, and was sometimes able to find a scuffed spot the looked like it had been used before. But for many holes there was nothing and I was left guessing.

Most of the course played over unmown mountain meadow type of terrain. With recent rains, in many places the grass and flowers were knee-high, but never so dense as to create a concern with disc finding. I played early on a dewy morning and my boots and lower pant legs were soaked after just a few holes.

This is a multi-use park, with a short walking path that winds through the course. Short enough that I had to wait on the same walker in two different locations during my round as she made the circuit. There are also various benches, tables, and playground equipment to be aware of.

This is a fine execution of a family-style course that would be great for beginners and youngsters. For me, it was a good opportunity to play a putter only round and work on 150 - 200' approaches.

It is a nice complement to the other tougher, longer courses in the area, but not one will that be sought out or played often by serious golfers.

Shiny, new-looking Veteran baskets, red band, blue cage, silver chains.

This is very much a "pitch and putt" or "introduce the kids to disc golf" kind of park. With Grindstone a 3-minute drive away, I think it provides a useful purpose. It could also be a good warm-up area for an event at Grindstone, at least for approach shots and putting.

Easy navigation. The course moves basically counter-clockwise around the park, starting next to the street by the parking lot. There are "Next Tee" arrow signs affixed to each basket that point the way for you. All of them are attached in such a way as to point the exact direction to the next tee. Walk along the line of the arrow and you will find it.

Shot variety. There are uphill and downhill shots, trees to circumnavigate, and a few interesting pin placements. A kid or a newbie learning to play here would encounter the need to learn several different shot shapes to improve. I think that's a great characteristic for a short-shot course.

On a day with little traffic in the park, this would be a great safari/practice area.

Playground and nice restrooms available in park, so good for family outings.

The course is VERY short. I was going to mention that all the holes are under 250', but I see that hole 2 is listed at 251'. The rest of the holes are under 200'.

Natural tees and no tee signs. Most of the tees are marked with flags (I assume all of them originally were). All the tees have a worn spot in the grass, which indicates that they are being used and this also allows for them to be found easily.

Although the course steers well clear of the playground, hole one (even with the mando) throws very close to picnic benches and other holes cross or come near to the trail. Disc golfers will need to be very aware of other park users. Some holes may need to be skipped, at times.

This would be a fun place to bring kids to teach them the game and it would be a good place for putt and approach practice or warm-up. It could also be a good place to stretch and play a 20-minute round while family members shop in Ruidoso. I think the course fulfills its purpose.

Most serious disc golfers will want to skip this one on the way to the more challenging local courses, but if you are in town with some kids or some people just curious about disc golf, give it a whirl!
