I was just browsing the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog for kicks when I came across these: http://www.hammacher.com/publish/71144.asp?promo=sportleisure Sure, they're designed for ball golf, but I have to wonder how well they'd work for disc golf. Think it would work?

I think these would work if your disc is white. The glasses would be handy to have!

Anything that can help my failing eyesight is worth an investigation :). Looks like it's designed for lighter colored golf balls, so I don't know how that translates to darker colored discs.

Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s.html?ie=UTF8&node=3375301&brand=Visiball) looks like the sell something similar, however, the customer reviews are not too kind.

I have lost 10 discs in 2.5 years. If they work I could save a bundle in discs.

hmmm I wonder how well they would work looking for water discs. My polarized sunglasses pretty much paid for themselves after one day fishing out discs that I would of never seen without them. These might work even better.

You could buy a blue camera lens filter and carry it around in your golf bag. Then, bring it out when you needed to look for a light colored disc. Something players might want to try is rose colored glasses which provide better depth perception to see the basket against green background like leaves and grass. If you have trouble judging distance, these can make a difference, especially on upshots.

And you thought they wore them back in the 70s just because they were fashionable... but in reality... those in the know played Frisbee games much better.

Kinda reminds me of those ads you'd see for X-ray glasses in back of comic books. Hopefully these are more effective...not that I ever blew my hard earned money as a kid on any of those cool looking yet bogus items found in the back of magazines:D

Ok, this is a thread jack but I just had to share this as I thought it was really funny. Earlier I was reading the thread where people were posting their age and picture. While I was viewing that thread my wife was looking over my shoulder. So anyway, she leaves the room and comes back later and I have this post up with the picture of this guy with the cats. As she walks by she sees the picture and says, "Is that one of those disc golfers?" I just about fell out of my chair laughing.

If only I could have kept a straight face I would have told her, "Yeah, he's one of the top pros on the site. The dude dominates." :D

Yes, they sell them there for $9.99 and it's the same thing.

I tried them on because I thought the same thing as the original poster- Would these work for disc golf?

And I don't think they would, unless you only use white/yellow discs. The glasses make everything that's not white sort of a dull color, and things that are white pop out.

I'd advise against purchasing, but definitely don't buy the expensive ones in the link.

my dad had some blue/purple-tinted ball golf glasses like these.
i tried it in the backyard, was not easier to find white/yellow (or any other color) discs.

i'd be surprised if these things even worked with golfballs.

better investment might be ballgolf handheld telescope. its like binoculars but only one scope. its small, like a roll of dimes. i tried those at the ball golf driving range, but i'm so blind it didnt help there either.

looks like they'd be useful for lighter color discs...but if you throw dark plastic...you're screwed

Blueblockers. I like to wear these sometimes and they will find light colored plastic. Green, blue, or purple is invisible tho.

I really don't need glasses. An underwater camera would be nice though or a plastic detector.

ive allways wondered if a black light would help you spot bright colored discs in water
i know it does out of water.

Using a heavy duty spotlight on the water at night helps you see deep into the water.
(why am I giving advice to someone who won't return what they find?)

not for all discs but still a good find

I'm pretty sure these glasses use the same technology behind luminous card marking. I've always wondered if this could be applied to finding discs but the science behind it is pretty guarded by people that make rigged playing cards for a living. Basically, you coat the cards in a liquid that's invisible to the human eye. The liquid is only seen using a very limited range of light on the spectrum to which you see by having lens that filter out all ranges of color but that very specific one. Or something like that.

But yeah, if you could coat your discs in something that would block out everything but them through glasses that would be a handy tool indeed.

Kind of similar topic, has anyone ever used yellow or brown tinted glasses like shooting glasses for improving visibility in the shady woods or low-light?

I used to wear brown tinted glasses, but didn't notice a significant difference.

Supposedly brown = increased contrast, but with slight color distortion.
Yellow/amber = increased contrast with increased depth perception, as well as slight color distortion (these sound like the ideal lenses for wooded courses).

I thought this thread was about shooting glasses when I saw the title, I think glasses that you could switch between the yellow/blue would be the best.

Somebody needs to make some Dwayne Wayne from A Different World style flip up glasses with yellow and blue. That would be awesomesauce.

I've used yellow shooting glasses while hunting. Don't know if they really made a difference or not but when the sun was down and you had just a little bit of light left I felt like they gave me an extra 5-10 minutes of possible shooting.
