Played at the Upstate Classic in Greenville SC. this weekend, and saw some amazing records set there. Micheal Johansen came in and played against the "local" pros. A pro from Augusta was in, and usually plays pro master, but they grouped all the pros together, and just had one group, pro open. After 3 rounds my friend had shot ..a 40, a 40, a 41...so had shot 121 after 3 rounds. Going in the 4th round the closest was down by 7...a 128. Almost finishing my pathetic last round <but I was still on lead card and cashed out with a 5th>, the Augusta pro had come over to tell those of us in the group what had just occured. Micheal J., who was down by 10 strokes to the leader, had just shot a 37!. Yes, EVERY hole but 1 he birdied, and that was a 40' er, that bounced off the hat band. The Augusta pro also had his worst round the last round...he shot a 46, but beat Micheal J. by 1 stroke to take overall. So after 4 rounds he shot 167, Micheal J. shot 168. This is a short course, but there is a lot of trees, elevation changes, rocks on hills....a LOT can go wrong....so to shoot -17 under is AMAZING!
So, 2 new course records were set on the same w/e. Best 4 round score 167, best round now set at 37.

I ran Sylmar's course in 17:30 and shot -3...
Anyone reading this now has a chance to break an obtainable record.
More obtainable than breaking -17 anyway.
But be careful, that back-nine is brutal.

if you played 18 holes in less than 18 minutes, i can't believe there is a single part of that 'course' that qualifies as 'brutal'.

At the 2006 Carrollton Open, Eric McCabe and his doubles partner (forgot who it was) birdied 21 of 22 holes during the Friday night doubles round. Granted, it's a mostly open course and it was doubles...so not quite as impressive at Michael J's performance, but still pretty awesome.

In the Clash- Renny gold video they highlight some of the other Charlotte area courses & MJ is the guy throwing in the video. He was dropping in deuce putt after deuce putt. Every drive is parked! He is an amazing player. I also got a chance to see him play in person at the '08 Sneely Pete DG tourney where he confidently dominated.

07 Carrollton Open Friday doubles Giggler and Nolan did the same at Greenbelt. Missed the last hole C

Ive never played the course in Greenville, but Michael Jo shot a 44 at Hornets Nest and thats pretty unbelievable. (-14 down). Heard he shot a 41 in CDGC League play, though I dont know if the 41 is fact.

agreed that is impressive. the back nine there features a lot of elevation change as well as a five hole uphill finish. my best there is -1 not running, good job bro.

That's a cool course, my wife is from Travelers Rest SC, so I have played it once. Pretty amazing for someone to shoot like that. When I played it I lost count of all the trees I hit.Next time I'm up there I plan to play it again, without all those trees jumping in the way of my disc.
