Playing DG in the winter in Minnesota and South Dakota isnt much fun when your fingers are frozen. Is there any indoor disc golf courses in the US? How much would one cost to build?

It'd have to be a huge building to get an 18-hole course inside, and would probably cost milllions of dollars. You suddenly have ball golf green fee prices ($50+) to play. It's an interesting idea, just not feasible.

Just keep an eye out for DG on Wii to get your DG fix.

I've heard of some clubs/groups using highschool or college gyms as a space to set-up putting courses. You can use bleachers as "hills", or stack baskets on top of tables, maybe stack up chairs to form a small "bush" you have to putt over...whatever you can get your hands on.
You might also consider buying a mini-basket and setting up an indoor mini-disc-golf course.

They have a video game for ball golf that lets you hit the ball into a large screen, so why not the same type of thing for disc golf? This would only be hard because your disc might not have the same fade to the left and right, so every shot would be right down the middle if you hit it right on.

Make the controller look like a disc and have 2 sensors in it, one on each end. So when you tilt the controller, it can tell how much angle you put on it and how fast you threw it.

There's a Wii game "Big Beach Sports" that has disc golf on it. You get a driver, mid-range and putter, ability to throw back-hand or forehand. the discs react to the controller being tilted when you throw, but all that said I wouldn't say its the most realistic game they can come up with. Still fun though. My girlfriend, who will occasionally go out and play a round with me, kicks my butt in it.

I agree. Disc golf on the Wii would rule. They should make it where you could design your own course as well.

Indoor DG could be a good re-use of empty big-box retail space if economically feasible. But, I think you are probably right about the cost-prohibitive obstacle. Any manufacturers interested in studying this?

i saw a video that looked like it was in an old abandoned factory. it was definitely a pitch n putt par 2ish type of course but it looked fun as hell. if you had a building like this available (and in todays economy with so many factories tanking it's very possible) you could just take out some cheap liability insurance and throw something like this up.

I've seen indoor driving ranges for ball golf. I suppose you could use one of these, but getting your disc back might be a bit of a challenge if there are ball golfers driving...

This is something ive always thought of! It seems like if someone opened and indoor course in the northern area of the US it would do pretty good (especially with the sport growing). It would for sure be an investment to start but if you had high prices in the winter and lower prices in the summer it would probably pay off! And maybe even have an outdoor course on the same propery for in the summer. Also I think the most efficient way to do it (both price and play quality) would be in a sports dome-

Anyway, I had to jump into this convo, cus this is something ive also wanted to see or even do (and hopefully will someday)!! But good luck to anyone who tries this because I think its a really good idea! And I WILL be surprised if I NEVER see an "indoor DGC" in my life time!

There's a very large old abandon apartment building, I think 25 floors, that I see often when driving by. I can imaged to have this whole building converted into indoor course with fake jungle tree environment settings at each floors.
Cool, uh?

They have indoor ski mountains in the middle of the desert in Dubai, so anythings possible. Of course money is the big factor and Ive seen many indoor skateparks close down do to slow business in the middle of tony hawk mania so I dont think anyone with half a brain is gonna build an indoor disc golf park to try to make money. Possilby out of love for the sport, but not for profit thats for sure.

maybe not short term, but long term you could make profit (if you did everything right)

Well lets not forget about heating a huge building in the middle of winter. I've
got a 1200^' house and its $220 a month in Jan., Feb.
But, I've got a innova discatcher in my basement. If I could find 18 places to move
it, I could have a full course! I just have to get rid of the huge gravity furnace right
in the middle of the room.

The link for that indoor course was really cool. I'll be it sharpens your putting for the outdoor months. Very creative use of the building.

I live in western mass. We have a ton of old dead factories- many floors, high ceilings, just waiting for a course. I agree heating would be an issue- but I figure keep it pretty cold, so pipe don't freeze, still way better than out in the snow or rain/mud.... Making those old buildings ready for a code inspection would be costly- but I'm not sure if a recreation facility is coded differently than residential/habitable space. I have some ideas about elevation and terrain as well as fairway separation to conserve space. I think it would be hard, but feasible, esp. if coupled with a mini golf/ laser tag/ electric go cart/ driving range/ paintball/ skate park/ something...Seems like the towns would rather something than a big dead eyesore....Even a single floor strip mall or K mart could fit a 9 hole or a pitch and putt 18, just food for thought. Holler back if anyone wants to get the ball rolling.

Just imagine some of the really cool skip shots you could come up with on the hard flooring. That would be really fun. Plus, this would be a great way to get your newer discs broke in over the winter.

i was thinking why could we not use one of the indoor golf simulaters they hit them golf ball pretty hard at them i think if someone put a little thought in to it it is possible i would pay to play on something like that in the winter or the rainy spring times in mi cant really play now cause we have over a foot of snow here now

Indoor disc golf would be pretty sweet, but I think it would get old pretty quick. It would never change with the seasons like our outdoor course do. No wind, no sunshine, no grass, no trees, no water. Sounds pretty boring to me. I like putting indoors for practice, so maybe an elaborate indoor putting gallery like the youtube video someone posted. That would be cool. Give me the outdoors though. That's most of the enjoyment of the game for me.

Back in the day mountaineers and die hard rock climbers decide to make wooden holds in their apartments and other "warm" places and now looks what it's become. Cities all over the country and world have huge amazing indoor rock climbing gyms. It's a bit different but who knows, disc golf is getting popular.

I would get nothing done. You could also do this at your home which would be great for when your snowed in.

The old OLYMPIA BEER Brewery in Tumwater WA. I drive by this abandon brewery everyday and think about how much fun it would be to have a course IN and around that place! Multiple levels, long tight corridors, wide open roof top shots!! Think Industrial Golf! Until then I've got my mini basket and a livingroom!

my sentiments exactly. the outdoor experience is a big part of the satisfaction for me, though thats a lot easier to say in coastal california where it doesn't snow...

Wii does have disc golf, tiger woods 2009 has disc golf thats fairly accurate to real life , or theres Wii vacation which has frisbee golf but with a cartoon charactor and no baskets just a bullseye to throw at, also ive played a few online flash versions of disc golf games, not very accurate to real life but fun anyway. Those are my michigan winter courses when im stuck inside.

Wii Sports Resort (for Wii duh) is pretty nice I think. The fairways are open but still present a challenge for players of all skill levels. I believe the Wiiware downloadable disc golf game will be available in December *crosses fingers*. If "PDGA Presents Disc Golf" is anything like WSR we are all in for a treat!

Actually I've been designing exactly how i think it could work out. I just need to find a developer and the money to get it started. It's definitely is an instant money maker in the Winter months, especially in the Ann Arbor Area!
The Bubble Driving ranges are the perfect thing to use, put 3 on the same property and connect them to a bar/restaurant/proshop you got a instant money maker!

Some people are putting together an arrangement to use the Metrodome for disc activities sometime this winter. We'll have the whole stadium area available but not the corridors circling it which is where they have rollerbladers.

The design your own course would be great. I've played the DG game on Wii Resort, and it recycles several of the holes from Wii Sports ball golf. If that isn't insulting...

The Pontiac Silverdome just sold for $580,000 last year. It was built in 1975 at a cost of $55.7 million.
Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to find an affordable space for indoor golf/mini golf/putting leagues in the Ann Arbor area that you could combine with a brewery, restaurant and live music space. If you buy on a big enough piece of property then you could also go with an outdoor course on the same property. A DG Country Club is not not too far off in the future.
Anyone on here interested in looking at this in more detail please PM me. I've got some friends looking at this as a viable business plan. -Scott
