I'm thinking about doing a SC Roadtrip, in the next couple of Weeks. Granted, I've got to keep it to a few days, but I'm thinking about a couple of directions. I'll definitely plan on hitting Earlwood, But I'm trying to decide if I want to travel up to Charlotte/Rock Hill or go to Augusta to play the courses there, including the PDGA courses in Appling, GA. Something to take me out and then back. So I wanted to hear from ya'll, what you thought would be some good courses. I would like to check out Stoney Hill, Winthrop, and the Renaissance Park and Reedy in Charlotte. But I'd also like to play the Steady Ed Headrick course and The Hippodrome in Augusta. DECISIONS, DECISIONS!:wall::) I'd also like to meet up with some of ya'll as well, if you are able. Let me know what courses you'd recommend.

This won't help much, but....

I'm halfway between Charlotte and Augusta, and consider them a toss-up. Both have so many good courses you might want to include just one of them for this trip, save the other for a later trip.

If you visit Stoney Hill, you might always want to include Crooked Creek in Chapin (about halfway between Earlewood & Stoney Hill).

Some depends on how many courses you intend to play in one day.

Hmmm, yeah, maybe a toss-up.

I haven't been to Augusta since Hippo or the PDGA Center.

But I agree with hitting Chapin if you're in the area. In my book, it beats Patriots, Riverview, (of course PKing), Earlewood, and Owen Field.

As it is right now with the shortened days, I might be able to get in 3 or 4 courses in a day. (I'm counting Drive times) I REALLY want to try Hippo. I'm thinking about this, one way or another, I may do Earlwood, Chapin, and Stoney Hills in one day. Maybe one more if I can squeeze it in. It looks like I'll have to flip a coin between Augusta and Charlotte! I plan on coming back through Charleston, I kick myself that I still haven't played there yet!

If you're more durable than I and trying to maximize courses, Augusta may have a little advantage of Charlotte. Distances between courses are less, and traffic is much less. IDGC has 3 course in one location (though the Jackson course is grueling enough to count for 2)....Riverview and Lake Olmstead are about 10 minutes apart, and I think Hippodrome is in the same general area. All within about 30 minutes of each other.

Earlewood, Crooked Creek, and Stoney Hill make a good set. From Stoney Hill, there are scenic backroads cutting cutting to I-77 (Charlotte) or I-20 (Augusta). Note that Stoney Hill will require advance notice---generally available on weekends, by special arrangement on weekdays before Daylight Savings time.

In fact, I've been meaning to ask you about Stoney Hill. I'm thinking this will be a "during the week" trip. I like playing when courses aren't so busy. How far in advance should I give for Stoney Hill? I still don't have a definitive date for this little trip as of yet. Oh, Since you've played The Hippo, is that a "Walk up, pay, and start" course, or do I need to call ahead with it as well? I think I may be leaning towards Augusta.

Dave, I thought I read a review by you under the Hippodrome. That was the other Dave, Dave242. My Bad! :)

I've been wanting to play Hippodrome, but I don't get out that much anymore.

Stoney Hill is owned by myself and my brother Chris, and we both work in a family business, about an hour away. So.....playing on a weekday involves one of us taking off early and getting up there. Which we've done for others and will gladly do again, if we can work it out. Easiest to schedule later in the afternoon (by Feb. 1, on a cloudless day a 4:00 start should allow time to finish), with several days' advance notice. The caveat is that if it's a day where other people are out of the office, or some particular conflict comes up, we may not be able to.

So probably at least 2 days' notice, better with more, and a little flexibility. (Once daylight savings time is restored, it gets much easier.....I get home about 6:00).

Although I've not played Augusta since the IDGC was finished, I'll have to agree with David Sauls in that Augusta has better chances to play 3 in a day with the winter days being shorter. Traffic is better, and also right now the weather is warmer in Augusta than in Charlotte
