How confident are you that you will attend a meet at Flip City?

MotoDj

i'd rather go to flip than alot of other places, not sure how its gonna work out money wise, but flip is a great central location in my mind

01-10-2010, 11:47 AM
I've been on a number of sites where everybody tries a big nationwide meet up and everybody says "I wanna come!!". But once the realities of finances, work schedules and family commitments come into play, it usually boils down to just a few folks attending, and most who do attend were in pretty close proximity to the meeting location. I suspect that will be the case here as well.

To me, a series of smaller regional meetups, in DGCR hotspots would garner much more success. I can't do Flip if I wanted to. Something like Dallas I could possibly do.

I am assuming that this will be a weekend event (arrive Fri PM or Sat AM, and depart Sun PM), right?

mashnut
01-10-2010, 12:00 PM
That's what I was assuming, most people probably wouldn't be able to go during the week. As long as it's not on the couple weekends that I have to work I'll definitely be there.

Pending date and site; I am excited about this. Here is another option to throw into the mix; nice; more southern location: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUWYRGhAaNM. Some of the craziest safari disc you've ever seen. I and a number of buds are looking into this already as a spot to assemble a crew from three states; to meet up and play this awesomesauceness!!!

jrawk
01-10-2010, 01:20 PM
This poll is simply to see if there will be enough support to garner a national event. This is in no way meant to rule out regional events. If there is support for an event, i hope we as a community can come together and make it successful, regardless of where it's held.

i put 100%, but that is depending on work, i work at the ski lidge now, so when i get a new job, i dono what my times will be, if i have enough notive i could ask for it off though

ohh and please lets not do july 10 (tourney at riverside park that day) i would skip tourney to go to flip though if it was the best day for everyone else :D

Regional meetups would be cool though. Maybe I should get something goign for Texas....hmmm...

I really can't take the time to play a two-day event. The Dad factor.

My wife and I have been kicking around the idea of a trip to Lakeview/Mecosta to see family, and that would put me an hour and 1/2 away from Flip. If all the cards fell into place and we were on vacation at the same time as the meet I might be able to show up for 1/2 a day. That is basically my best-case scenario.

As of Jan 12 5:35pm EDT

Of those that responded, we can estimate 22 of 43 will be in attendance.

100% of 7 people = 7
75% of 8 people = 6
50% of 18 people = 9

I definitely plan on getting up to Flip City as early as possible this spring. From all I've heard it is beyond awesome, and if it lives up to even half of it's reputation, I would definitely be up for attending a get-together there. It's only about 3 hours away, and I can always get time off of work with enough notice (my boss is a dg fiend as well, which helps).

I think Iowa/Kentucky make better central locations to try to arrange a meet-up....

i have started a southeast poll including idlewild in kentucky, i am in no way going to be able to organize the whole thing. My biggest problem is that i am a substitute teacher, which means i need to find summer work and i have no idea what it might be. Last summer i worked as a rickshaw but that wont happen this coming summer.

I have viewed many times; check in daily; keep waiting for someone to make some kind of a decision. As was said in another post; wake me up when someone gets down to business. If this were being offered at High Bridge or any of the other awesome/possible choices nearer to me; I would lead a charge; but there's no sense in participating as more than an attendee at a course as far as Kentucky or Michigan. If it is at all possible; I will be there. No one will know for sure until a date and site; and other details are stated; or at least; name three weekends; get hosts in line as to the fact that they can, and are willing to do it; and then, have participants choose from these three options. Or, simply declare a date; so people can begin to plan vacation time around it. Many persons need to know now; as their places of employment will be asking soon for declaration of vacation days.

Bill says Sept 17 weekend is good! Wants to keep numbers under 100 or he'll need a gathering permit (if it got that big, we should pay for his fees and troubles).

I'm in, but before jumping head first into this, he says this is the second request he had for a gathering. Is anyone else trying to organize something on a different date (i.e. mid summer as this post suggests)?

I am definitely a fall time disc golf lover, so I am definitely gonna plan for Sept 17-19. Sorry if this hoses anyone because it is after school is back in session.

I'm in for Sept 17-19. I may even take vacation and start heading over Thursday night because I also want to hit Leviathan, Mason Co, and Whitehall which are all right near Flip. I may hit Miles or Hickory on the way back.

I am going up and around, thru the UP, NOWHERE NEAR CHICAGO!!! May have room for carpooling or a caravan with a few vehicles. I'm planning to set up tent at Flip.

I'd be willing to collect scorecards and put together a results/stats report at the end also. I can include PDGA style data like round ratings and whatnot too.

It would be good to change the post title, or start a new post. Maybe just make an announcement. Bill already said that Sept 17-19 is good. I'll keep him posted on our numbers, and liek I said if he will need a gathering permit for over 100 people, we'll fully compensate him. I doubt over 100 will show in an organized manner.

I was in as 50% earlier, but with the date now in Sept, I think I'm more of a 75%-85%. I wish the car ferry wasn't so damn much, 'cause that not only eliminates Chicago but also driving up through the U.P. (which, to its credit, is a beautiful drive).

I've thought about doing this what with the car price only about $80 (each way), but then the round-trip per passenger rate is about $120 (those are last year's rates. The ferry is only about 15 minutes from my house, and then it's like 4 hours across the pond, upon which you're in beautiful Ludington, MI! I'm sure we'll figure something out, but I'm not opposed to superberry's plan to hoof it up through Da Yoo Pee.

That sounds like a good idea, unfortunately the ferry natzi's charge per person as well as per vehicle. And yes it is very very expensive to ferry across lake michigan, you would almost be better off just driving around the lake, it would take like 6 hours longer maybe but save a car of four people about 200 bucks.

Flip city is the location for the northern/east coast meet, I believe there are several different meets in the works right now for people out west and people down south.

I am going to spring the idea of heading over for this to my wife (who said if I went to western MI for DG, that she would most definitely come with me) this week. I better get it on the calender before something else comes up. I will keep you appraised.

..or better yet. That weekend I will see if we all can't camp in the apple orchards at The Farm and have a few rounds of night/glow golf courtesy of Jeff Schwass and the awesome AWESOME guys at the MCDGO!

If we all stayed at the Farm it might get enough 5 disc reviews to overtake Flip City!

Dont forget to hit up Branstrom dgc in newaygo. Thats an awesome course too about 15 miles from flip. I believe Bill from flip had a hand in designing it.

That is very true. Well then, the sites number one course will have to be a private nine hole-r than!

I can check on making it there. I'd probably bring a carload up from Muskegon.

I would love to go. I can likely be there the 17th and 19th but my parents have there 25th anniversary party on the 18th and I should probably go to that. I live about 15 mins. away from flip city and have never been there. how sad is that?

Some of my college friends are coming over this weekend and we're going. I'll wait until then because I want my first time to be special :p

I wonder if my wife will care that I abandoned her on her birthday to meet a bunch of strangers from the internet.

I was at Flip a week ago, I love that course. Ill be there for sure. I just bought a really nice tent and Ive been stocking up on camping supplies. Should be a lot of fun. Beers will be drank, chains will be heard for miles...

I camped there last Saturday night for the Fish Light tournament. It was a blast, but I didn't get
to bed until 5am. Disc golf all night is fun, hanging with my wife and kids the next day isn't.

That would be a great weekend to go to Flip, seeing as it is my Birthday weekend. I'll say I'm at 50-75% for sure. I'm heading to Flip next weekend.

I put down 50% which is probably about right. It is my weekend off but convincing my wife that I need another solo camping trip this year could be tough. If I can make it ill be camping in my hammock. What is the camping situation at Flip City? I have never been and am new to this forum. Several people have mentioned bringing tents. Is there a charge or ?

Here (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15558&highlight=camping+flip+city) is a thread about camping at flip. If you want info on other campgrounds or hotels in the area let me know, I live about 15 miles from Flip City.

Thanks SAxDrc seems pretty informal and straight forward. As long as I dont have to dig a cat hole I am happy.
