View Full Version : Just an idea for St. Louis Disc Golfers.....

There's an indoor sports arena in north St. Louis county called Jamestown Sports Complex.

I fashioned the idea tonight that i could rent the place out for an hour ($200) and invite any DG'ers in the area to use the indoor area for sort of a practice field. (and charge people 3 or 4 bucks to join in, depending on the turnout)

I'm not sure, but i think the length of the place is 100 yards (though it may be shorter).

Considering it's in the 20's this weekend here, i think this would be a unique idea to give golfers an area to practice drives, and maybe expose a few new people to the game as well.

I envision splitting the group into halves, having one group all throw at once one direction down the field (while having the other half clear of the "downrange" area), then reversing the process for the other side.

...Maybe even buying a couple temp innova baskets and putting them downfield to give throwers something to shoot at.

...Have a check in at the front door where people declare how many discs they have (and verify that their contact info is on them) so they can be sure they leave with the same number they came with.

How the discs would be returned to the shooters on the opposite side is something i haven't quite figured out (a couple shaggers in golf carts maybe?).

I know it's a goofy idea that needs some of the logistics worked out, but i think it has merit.

Thoughts?

I haven't been there in quite some time, but I think that might be a great "bring a friend" type way to push the sport. I would imagine that more than a few of us already have practice baskets, if this were something that could be planned out as a semi-regular instructional thing. Talk to the RCF, see what the potential would be during the winter months. I like the idea.

thinking the same way i was: i've been browising through their site all night and i think running this through them would be a great idea.

i'll sign up and start making posts tomottow perhaps. gotta go grab a couple brews right now :)

Roger that. I know a couple of users on this site are from STL. I think that a pro instructional clinic thing would be cool for me, and y'know, bring the kids to learn, hook a buddy, whatever. Great idea.

well, for what i can contribute, it'd just be an informal throw-for-the-hell-of-it free for all for the hour.

i neither have the expertise nor know anyone who does that could put on any sort of training thing.

the other idea i had was to organize some sort of ace run at the end of the hour. it'd give people something to shoot for i guess (pardon the pun). maybe keep score and give the winning side a few bucks back; something of that sort.

I would like to think that some of the club players would be interested in a coaching thing, and I know we have a few local pros out there. Might be something there.

Man,that's a really good idea. I've always thought it would be so much fun to play in a climate controlled area with an array of urban based obstacles. I think like an old air plane hanger would be waaaaay fun.

It's a really good idea, good luck with it. We had an indoor sports arena where I live, but it closed last spring. It was open for ball golf driving, but I thought (too late) that it would have been great for disc golf.

Do any of you STL'rs know if gateway disc ever puts on pro clinics. Something like this would be great for an approach/putting class. Gateway could sponser and shoot a training dvd and sell it.
