Okay, here's the plan. The location is a done deal. Circle R - if we're going to do it - do it right.
Two questions I want you to answer, and I'm sorry if you voted in the last one already - do it again please! :D
Please make sure to answer BOTH QUESTIONS - they're in the same poll.
Hope to see you there!!!

Yes, we are already down to be on their schedule for one of these two dates. Once the dates get closer and I get a better idea of votes prefrences on dates and attendance, it will get down to one date and notifications will go out.
Bottom line - This is going to happen, right now is just the leg work and info gathering phase.

Are they going to let us camp Friday/Saturday night?
Quote from Lake Placid (1999):
Sheriff Hank Keough: Tents were sent ahead. Should already be set up by the time we get there.
Kelly Scott: Tents? We're staying in TENTS?
Sheriff Hank Keough: I told you, two days we'd have to camp.
Kelly Scott: Yes! Camp! But I thought that meant Ramada Inn. I never heard tents! Will there be toilets?
Jack Wells: Maybe we should just take you back.
Kelly Scott: Why? Because I prefer toilets?
Kelly Scott: Maybe I should just wipe myself with some leafy little piece of poison oak. And then I can spend the whole day scratchin' my ass, blendin' in with the natives.

I'm down w/ either date but would prefer the April date. I voted 100% for both dates... hope that doesn't mess up the poll. I do hope they allow camping... I know when I talked to them in the past they told me they have to have an employee on site to make things legal on their end (liability or somethin') so I'm sure the earlier we decide on a date the better chance we'll be able to camp. :)

I feel the same way. I'll have to wait and see what all is going as we draw closer to the date.

If I end up being able to go, then that sounds like a plan to me. I really want to play Manor and Circle C while we are down that way. Wouldn't mind hitting up Dripping Springs either.

Okay, I know I know - only 11 have voted, but that's enough to get the ball rolling since weekends during that time of year fill up fast.
So...Here's the deal.
We are officially on the calendar for April 17th. This is a good thing and here's why - first the weather is cooler, the course should be in great shape in prep for world's largest, and they are able to opening it up Friday evening for anyone interesting in camping. You can't play actually Friday, but you'll be set for Saturday.
Also, as if you needed more incentive to come. As I was talking to the owner, I told her we were coming from all over, and she asked if I was the one getting the DGCR group together. I told her yes, and she said well then let's see if can surprise you and make it a little more special. I didn't inquire further, just thanked her, hung up, and started writing like a giddy little school girl.
So, they know who we are, and I'm pretty sure this is going to be an awesome experience. Sorry if April doesn't work out - really June was better in many ways for me too - however I urge you - like I did, to start working on those schedules now. You won't regret it.
Please PM me if you are 100% going as well as if you are camping. I'll need rough numbers to give them as we get closer to the date. Also, you have until the end of March to get me this info - so no rush. But...don't wait until the last minute either!
Counting the days!!!

Hey Moon. I live about 15 minutes from Manor & would love to toss a round w/ ya sometime as well. It was super-duper muddy out @ Manor last Sunday... far muddier than I've ever seen it. Yet, I'm sure it's far better now w/ these super sunny warm days we've had this week.
I think it would really help if they laid some mulch out there along the paths. It would also help a lot w/ erosion control & helping to guide first timers around the course.

Moon said PM him with your info (he was reading this over my shoulder). I work with him and live about 15min from Manor. We were out there yesterday and it was about half dryied. #2 and #3 was still a mud pit. I think Moon has even called Travis County Parks about setting up a work day to spread mulch.

Okay - Now that April is here, here are the logistics.
Camping = $10 Friday night. Please get there after 6:30, because they are driving out from the city to let us in.
Playing = 10$ All Day Saturday - wraps up around 6PM
Based on the number of people who have PM'ed me and voted - I have told her a minimum of ten people for camping and ten people for playing. Basically, I'm guaranteeing 200$ for their effort. However, I'm hoping for more than 10 for camping and I'm definitely hoping for over 20 for playing.
Put it like this. The waterfalls are flowing from the rain, and the bluebonnets are out. The weather is perfect, and with the rain next week - I'm sure the waterfalls will keep flowing. Bottom line - this is the perfect time of year to play here and after the Doubles tournament, the course is trimmed and in great shape. You owe it to yourself to make this trip, I mean what more excuses do you need.

Honestly, I was going to play it by ear since the number isn't final until that day. Sunrise is at 7:00AM, so I figure that enough time to get up, have some food - and be on the course by 8. We'll probably hash out more arrangements on Friday night at the site about how we might do group play, or playing what course at what time. (possible doubles, or skins) that sort of thing. We'll be there all day, so you don't have to rush to get in at a certain start time.
As far as food - we are packing in and packing out since it'll be cheaper and easiest. I haven't ever asked about possible food arrangements, would you like me too?

One more week people!!! Make your plans and come out!! To recap some things people where wondering about: yes, bring those travel tags!
Food: Pack it in and pack it out. They have picnic tables and allow coolers with good beverages, but please be responsible. You don't want to bring food - no problem, you have anything from a Subway to Pizza Hut and BBQ no more than 10 minutes from the course.
Start times: Sun is up at 7, and I will be on the course by 8 I'm sure. Some people expressed interested in something more formal and if people want we could set up a winner take all 5$ buy in doubles round later in the day. Nothing set in stone, but certainly things to think about.

8 day forecast has it clearing up prior to Sat so yup waterfall should be kicking. Less than 20% chance of rain. That just means it'll be nice and cool.
And for those who can't make it...and those who can, Circle R also has the World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend out there the 1st of May. That was a LOT of fun last year. Tons of free Fat Tire for those who like beer. And a bunch of ring of fire chances and raffles. John Houck really does it up right out there.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday While we are there.
This is what I just saw on the Circle R site. So, it may get busy out there if enough people see this.
Not that I am complaining, but is everyone going to be paying $10 to play there this weekend or just our group?

I talked to a local played at the last tourney I went to, and he said that it can get really busy when it is open.
Good thing is we are starting first thing Sat morning, so we should get out there before the crowd starts.

I would but have a wedding that I have to make.
Get me a great excuse to drive down to Austin with a complete stranger to play disc golf and my wife might let me go?

Makes sense - they just put this up within the last week, since they want to maximize their profit. They never guaranteed a private day for us, we don't have the numbers. And yes - anyone who comes out will have to pay whether you're with our group or not. I called, and they don't seem to think they'll have a big crowd. I guess we'll see.

I read this again. The course is open for play, but anyone who camps gets charged 10 and whoever plays pays 10, so it's not just us.

This is a rough guess based on this thread and the PM's I received, but around 20 playing on Saturday. I optimistic it will be over 20 though. About 10 people have fully committed rain or shine, but many others said they were going to try, but play it by ear as we got closer to the date. For camping - I think it'll be more around 10. My brother and I are camping and playing for sure! :D
BTW - Rain has gone from a 60% to 40% chance, so weather may be fantastic who knows. High is 74 and it looks to be overcast for sure. I don't know about you but 74 is perfect in my book.

Come on JD, you know you want to come out and have a good time! I feel cheated that we only got in 11 holes at Myler Park! :D

I was out there last weekend. Played both courses without seeing anyone. The course is in great shape, wildflowers and water is pumping. Waterfall is as nice as it's ever been.
I would suggest starting on the hill then finishing on the meadow just do to the wind. You'll get plenty in the morning, and even more during the afternoon.
other than that the courses are in great shape. I'm going to try and make it. The ranch gate opens at 10AM. Please open it, and shut the gate behind you. There will be instructions on where to register.
Ok thanks for the head's up.

some things from scanning through the threads... I'll chime in on what I think I know
There's a $10 all day play fee/day for everyone. For the World Am Doubles they charged $10/night to camp but that may have changed. There is water/plastic/clothing/snacks available at the pro shop. There are bathrooms and showers for campers. I have seen glow lights on the practice basket which makes me think it's not uncommon for a little evening golf, but you'd have to ask Dee or John. You must sign a waiver before playing - it may be called out there.
Pizza Hut will deliver there. There's a Subway about 10 miles down the road.
The courses are mowed, are in tournament shape. The springs are flowing, the waterfall is cascading. It will not disappoint. Great chance you will get to meet John Houck, he's always happy to stop and chat about disc golf, design, whatever. His wife Dee is a pleasure as well. It's just as good vibes disc golf as disc golf gets. It goes without saying to this group but please make sure you leave the course better than you found it and we may be able to play these gems for a long time to come.
couple cool little differences I've noticed when playing the ranch - Usually, No 2 meter rule in effect. Water, if any on #10 fairway (springs) is casual. On 18 Hill, if you end up in the pasture on the other side of the fence, play it where it lies w/out penalty.
I'll provide my directions from Austin: (Takes about 45 minutes)
Take 290 West to Henly (one town past Dripping Springs)
Left on Ranch Road 165
Left on Farm To Market 2325
5 miles or so on your right - you'll see Innova & Millenium Signs (Put Circular Productions, Wimberley Tx. into your Iphone for pinpoint accuracy) Across from 7H ranch if you happen to be looking at the wrong side of the road when you're driving by - like I did last week.)

Yeah it was 60% all day here in Austin and we BARELY got a 10 minute mist. Unless it's pouring in the morning, I'm going first thing. There's barely any wind out and it's a absolutely awesome 70 degrees. From what all the weather stations are saying it looks like 40% until tomorrow around 5pm then it goes to 50% then 60% after that. But 60% today yielded less moisture than dew normally does.
So it's looking good as of now!

I gotta say, I just can't make a 8 hour road trip with a 70% chance of rain. Mostly due to the fact that I would have to make the drive alone. So, I hate to say it, I just can't make the trip this time. :(

I'll be going if the weather doesn't look completely crappy, aiming to be there by 8 am.
I was under the impression it opens at 10am. So I'll be leaving here around 8:30-9.
And totally understandable Donovan. Though, honestly it's been 60% all day today and there's hardly been a drizzle. But maybe you can make it down for World's Biggest on May 1st. Hopefully the threat of rain will be gone by then.
Also I think some people are going to be doing a mini at Manor on Sunday for those who want to hit that up.

Good Luck gentlemen! Stay dry, throw low, throw straight and throw far. Enjoy the beauty that is Circle R. Ill be playing the courses in my head all day
We got there around 10:10... It was misting. At 10:15 it stopped misting and didn't rain on us at all the rest of the round. Sun even came out during the 2nd round. I got a tan. Tees were pretty muddy though so it was hard to get a good pull of the tee boxes...at least that's the excuse I'm using. But all in all it was awesome out there. Slight cool breeze and 70F. Can't beat it. Played with DiscChucker on both courses and had a blast.
Well, World's Biggest on May 1st will beat it but other than that, can't beat it.

Good times! It was weird to have a "Texas" DGCR meet in Austin camping with just one other Houston group. hmm... Oh well, it rained good at first, but it dried out, was perfect by round #2, and it really was an awesome time. Thanks Trampy, Rachel, and Trip for enjoying some hard earned rounds together!
We saw a fair amount of people out there, but they were with a different group, too bad we couldn't meet up with more. Got to take our picture with John Houck, so that was pretty cool.
Gonna have to do it again next year - rain or shine people!!! Miller and I think we need to make it a weekend next time - get there Friday evening, play Saturday and Sunday and head out then. Live and learn.
Thanks again!
Post if you were out there, I would like to know who braved the elements and made it a day.

Wow! That's all I can say. Circle R has two exceptional courses. The weather couldn't have been better. It was a real blast out there. As Dude stated we played both courses. Dude and his friend Jesus are an absolute riot to golf with.
I briefly met Frizzle Tossler while I was on Rolling Meadows #1 fairway and he and a friend were on #8's fairway. Sorry, Frizzle I tried to catch up to you guys but a few of my errant throws put me back a bit. Let me know if you would like to meet up for a round in the next couple of days. I'm down for Bart if that's convenient for you.
I met quite a few people out there but other than Dude and Frizzle Tossler I didn't run into any other DGCR members. :( In hindsight I should have PM'd my cell number or got some of the cell numbers of you guys that were going out there. Oh well, a lesson learned.

They opened it to the public, and there was another big group there - so it was fine. You can always give me 10$ though - I won't complain. ;)
In fact, Dee only charged us 5$ for camping since we only stayed one night, so it all worked out.
Jesus and I started around 10:20, played 4 holes then went back to the start and met DiscChunker. Played the Meadow then the Hill.
Sorry we didn't run into more people. Though we did have a mini meet up today at Manor. Had a blast. random draw doubles with 8 people.

Hey man,
I tried to pm you, but I guess your inbox is full. Sorry we missed you on Saturday. We actually called it a day after we finished up #9 on the Meadows course. If you're still in town & wanna toss a round today, I could play around 4:30 or 5 given that the weather holds up. Is there any course in town that you haven't gotten to play that's on your wishlist? Circle C, Manor, & Austin Ridge Bible church are most likely the best in town.
Feel free to give me call if you'd like to play two-one-four-eight-six-nine-four five-zero-seven.

Yeah, it was fun times out @ Circle R on Saturday. Rained hard the whole drive out, but stopped when we got there a little after 11:00am. The dude in the proshop said the DGCR group had just started on the hill course when we got there, but he must have gotten the two groups mixed up :( Wish we could've met up w/ some of you guys.
It turned out to be a beautiful day. We only got rained on for maybe 2 or 3 minutes & I've never seen so many wildflowers out there. Even got to (voluntarily) go swimming on the signature waterfall hole (#7 Meadows) for about an hour or so. Worlds Biggest should be a blast out there in a couple of weeks.
