Hi all
Just a couple of questions someone might be able to help me with.
I've been thinking about cleaning my discs when I get home and was wondering what others have used and tried. I was thinking some warm water and a little bleach with a sponge or something. Some of my lighter discs have some nasty mud and bark stains that I'm not sure will come out with just bleach and h20. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, I've been searching with no luck for a frisbee beeper. Some sort of sound device that can stick to the bottom of the disc and make a decent noise from the evil thorn bushes. I found some ass that patent the idea but haven't seen anything material. Has anyone?

Thanks again.

I use simple green and an old tooth brush to clean the dirt and skid marks off my discs. The brush works good for getting in the cuts and dings in the rim of the disc.

As far as cleaning discs, I have used dish soap and water to clean discs pretty well. For dirt down in grooves or scratches, you might clean this up with a little fine grade sandpaper. Refer to
http://www.pdga.com/rules/80201-discs-used-in-play with regard to modification of discs.

The guys at Black-Jax Sports (at the USDGC) said they were working on a beeper unit for discs with a key-fob activator. They said to look for it sometime next year.

I put all my discs in the dishwasher with the heat dry turned off, of course. It works pretty good.

QFT.

By the way, isn't using some sort of location device against PDGA rules?

A possible short term solution for the beeping disc would be get one of those singing greeting cards, remove the sound device and secure onto your disc. I thought of doing this many times. Draw back I see are the battery life, not being able to turn on/off the device and would it be loud enough for me to hear it, if it was laying on the sound device or buried under leaves or snow.

Why not just buy another disc if you lose it? There is no sense in spending $10 on a beeper, to put it on a $12 piece of plastic.

someone explain to me why they would clean a disc unless the mud was just caked on.

Two things. First, I said I thought of doing this, I haven't yet. Second, I envision the beeper device being peel and stick, so I can transfer it to any disc I want. Now, a $10 beeper could be used for $120 or more pieces of plastic :).

IMO that would rank right up there with the Shamwow, Ronco Rotisserie, AB Slider, Forearm Froklift and Extenze. LOL

But they all made millions, so who knows, you may be on to something here.

I think keeping your disc somewhat clean is important. A clean disc will make you and it feel better about each throw the two of you make...

Yeah I've been looking a key locator's and all sorts of mini speakers. I really can't find anything small enough yet.

I think that making one of these devices would be very inexpensive judging the cost of current key locating devices. I would gladly pay $5 and stick a beeper to my disc every time I had a tricky throw. If Black-Jax doesn't step up I'm going to have to start messing around with this idea a bit more.

Thanks everyone for the washing advice

cover the underside of the disc with foil, and then take a metal detector to the course!!

Oh, another thing:

Don't clean your discs before a tourny... it's just bad juju.

Like the beeper idea... agree with the others.

I clean my disc every so often, if too much dirt/mud get caked on the disc I start to feel that it is not evenly balanced and disc don't fly as straight. Warm water, dish soap, scrub brush/wash rag.

I was at the beach yesterday tossing some disc and when I finished I noticed that the disc was noticeably cleaner. I took out another one and swooshed it around in the sand and water, I got most of the crap right off of them. I like a bit of dirt on some of my disc and am normally to lazy to clean them but some disc just look good clean. I'm just happy I don't live in Georgia, then all of my disc would be orange.

Me and some guys at work use windex the blue kind. It works really well and seemed to make our soft putters a bit sticky.

I've been hoping for an attachable beeper device for a while now too. It isn't just to save discs. What I really want it for is to save time. It seems my friends and I spend a lot of time searching in the woods for lost discs. A keyfob beeper would really help. Especially if it worked underwater.

Yeah, Georgia red clay is sticky, but I'd be surprised if it wouldn't come right off the plastic with a little water. It might stain the cheaper grades of plastic, but I honestly haven't had much trouble with it.

As for locating your disc, those little lights people use for glow dg might work okay as a sighting beacon. They wouldn't be as visible in the daytime as at night, but they would make a difference. I wonder how expensive it would be to manufacture a disc with an RFID chip in it.

the above link is for a locating devise that you can use for your keys, children, animals, whatever.

The tag that you use weighs 5 grams.

Now I know that the price and size of this is not feasible for disc golf use right now. However eventually it will be. When the tags get small enough you will be able to stick a tag on all your discs, your dog, your keys, sunglasses, and wallet. Have them all programmed in. And you can smoke that sticky stuff at the golf course you want and still leave with everything you went there with!

Just Imagine how many more holes you could play in the course of a year if you didn't have to spend any time looking for discs!

Also check this company out.

http://www.tlrsystems.com/products/trxTransmitters.html

They have paperclip size tags that work for up to 25 miles. The technology is already out there, just to damn expensive for us disc golfers!!

a brillo pad and warm water works well for a cleaning/light wet sanding job on the discs that need it. That's what Climo does. I noticed all his discs were super smooth and clean so I asked him if he sanded them. He said he uses a brillo. So I did. Works great. Try it.

As far as the locater or beeper device...

Washing your discs is crazy talk! I just wipe the mud/dirt off by dragging the disc along the grass or ground, or a disc towel. I've never been at home and said, hey these discs need to be washed. LOL...and people think im anal?
