Congratulations to the The Valkyrie Kid on earning the highest reviewer honor on DGCR. Thank you for the wealth of information you've provided to the community and your dedication to the sport and reviewing.

I have created a very special TR "mini" for the diamond level that I hope you will enjoy.

Thank you again for your dedication to the site and the sport!

Please tell me you ordered more than 1 of those because that is frickin awesome . . . .I am gunning as hard as I can to get there. I definitely will not use the wood one on the course in fact it owuld be illegal in a PDGA even because it is too big! Would it be rude to ask you to sign the back of the wood one???

01-23-2010, 06:57 PM
Glad you guys like it! To answer the questions that came up, the wood is maple. I had a choice of a few but thought it would look best on that. It's not hollowed out underneath so it's a solid piece and weighs about 1 pound.

I wouldn't mind signing the back if you wanted me to. I probably should have asked Valkyrie Kid if he wanted me to sign the back, I just assumed he might not want it signed.

Also, I'll order these on an as needed basis as they are really quite expensive and take around 2 weeks to come in. I went a little crazy on it since I know diamond is very tough to achieve so I wouldn't have to be handing these things out like candy :)

Maybe you will be handing them out like candy after people see the benefit. I think it is a great thing for the game and this site to offer such a cool reward. It helps build the site and it helps build the knowledge that can be garnered from the reviews. I only hope people continue to improve their reviews. Mine have certainly taken a step up in recent weeks with my long roadtrip. Some maybe consider me wordy but I am only putting in there things that I think are generally worth mentioning. I don't think there is a lot of fluff but sometimes I may talk in circles as I have been known to do!!!! All in all I just hope people step their games up, but more importantly I hope more people use the review section to review and not just read.

Maybe if you offered premium memberships as one of the stages of TR that would get more people to write better reviews. I don't think it is easy to cheat the system, because even though I have now reviewd 160 course I still have only 5 votes per review. That would take a lot of courses to reach gold or diamond level, or a ton of votes like if someone only reviewed Flip, Idlewild, Highbridge, or the often discussed Winter Park! Maybe people need more incentive, not that it needs to come out of your pocket Timg, but maybe there is some sponsorship (perhaps you could contact the private pay to play courses and see if they want to begin advertising here). Sure they can rely on their reviews, but a couple hundred $ from them could go a long ways for this site. Maybe this should be in suggestions and not here, but it was on my mind as I typed. See what I said about talking in circles I did it again!

Credit goes to jedwards for the initial artwork there. Then about a billion hours of behind the scenes work by my awesome wife to organize a surprise birthday party for me. She got 30 or so of my friends to show up for a round of night golf (doubles tourney) at our local course. She had glow sticks, mini LEDS, packs of discs pre-prepared for the non-discsers, food, drinks, trophies, and these custom made minis for everyone in a variety of colors including some glow ones. It was really cool. :D

The best part about that mini is the lego man with the disc in his hand. If only my parents would have bought the disc golf lego man kit when I was a kid I would have always wanted to be like the lego man and I would have found this sport earlier. Instead I find myself trying to fly through space in my lego spacecraft. Hey it could be worse I suppose I could have some dumbass parents who pretended to send me into space in a balloon! Thats gonna be one messed up kid in the future if he isnt already messed up enough.

Thanks I recieved the wooden "Diamond Level Reviewer" disc today in the mail yesterday. It surely is a pretty thing. I couldn't wait to try it out. So this morning I headed down to Riverside (my home course) to give it a throw. It's kind of hard to grip having no lip. I was probably only getting maybe 75 foot out of it. It didn't work much better as a putter. I had no accuracy at all. Fortunately, I didn't hit any trees but that's mostly because I couldn't throw it all the way to the trees.

I guess now I'll retire it and hang it on my wall along with a couple of plaques of little league baseball teams I coached and a couple from high school state football games I officiated.

Thanks again Tim for this site and all you do. I'm happy to be a part of it.

Gotta travel in different regions, I think, to even have a chance.

I think that's a brilliant part of the equation, though, because it makes it more likely that the Diamond reviewers have seen courses in many different styles and terrain types.

I too agree with this part even if I am yet to get there. It is all about playing in different regions which I am currently working on. Looking forward to playing on the east coast a little this summer. GA, SC and maybe Alabama. As far a westcoast, I seem to have that region down.

Donovan for sure, me not sure about that one. I'm getting Montana next month and California next year as new states and that would only jump me up to 7 states played. I might get NC and for sure more Georgia and SC. Although I consider myself one of the four masters of the Northwest (along with Cefire, JR Stengele and The Valkyrie Kid) I'm afraid I'll need to be closer to 2000 votes than 1000. I'm known as the king for reviewing courses no ones cares about, lol. Cefire is very close, a few more reviews and he will have 1000 thumbs up. Also he has played in 30 something states and numerous countries. He's a bit busy these days but I think he might be next.

I know my buddy bjreagh is close. He has over 900 positives. He and I travel together a lot. I may make it one day, but my reviews tend to be polarizing. I have found that after playing so many great courses around the country that my standards have changed a lot. I know bjreagh took a good ripping when he reviewed Blue Ribbon Pines, and as soon as I review it, I expect the same. Congrats to all of you guys who stand up to Home Boy Bias everywhere and speak the truth. The Diamond Club is truly a list of great reviewers and have all faced their share of HBB: our interesting DGCR dynamic. It makes me somewhat proud everytime I filter a course's reviews by TR and see the rating drop ever so slightly. It lets me know we're doing our job well. Cheers and congrats to Eric, Olorin, and JR...great work by all.

ps. I have been around the site so long, I remember when the forums had about 40 active posters. The site has definitely flourished, so Tim deserves a round of applause as well.

Tim I don't really need one.....I would've been more persistent about it in the past if I did. The site has given me more fun and info than I imagined and thats enough for me

I know it's not as fun, but if you guys want one I can cover some of the cost if you want to spend a few bucks to get one. I never really thought that many people would make it... at least not in a burst like that.

If I was just getting mine I would totally spend the $40 for one . . . in fact, if I send you $40 timg you can use it to pay for one for the new guys . . . Pay it Forward!

^ You, Donovan, and cefire are going to turn diamond at any moment. Just keep up the good reviews as all three of you are worthy and we'd be lucky to have you in the EDRC. :)

Thank you kind sir.

And just like that, (and no it wasn't anyone I knew) I'm over a grand and now just waiting on the 200. So close and yet so far away... :)

I think you misunderstand the qualifications. Your negatives can't be more than 40% of your positives, so he's got a ways to go.

Actually, he needs around 1500 assuming nobody else give him a thumbs down.

It's a shame because dave242 has contributed so many quality reviews and it seems that he gets punished for being honest.

Nah, he got punished for that weird format he used early on. That's what did him in.

Just imagine when he DOES become a diamond reviewer. He will by far have the most votes of anyone, good and bad. He IS however a good reviewer and adds a lot to this site.

:)

What I like and how this course stacks up:
1) Holes with good risk/reward -- B
2) Holes that have rewarding birdie opportunities -- B-
3) More wooded than open - lots of variety of shots required caused by hole shape and topography -- B
4) Natural beauty (Appalachian beauty preferred) and seclusion -- A+
5) Multi-shot holes with defined landing zones, good risk/reward and multiple options to play them -- C

... and that's it. not sure how to take the early ones.

Thanks so much to everyone! I feel humbled. I was just telling my fiancé this morning that working towards our Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership has made me fall way behind on my reviews. I am worn out from all of the writing and I still have over a year left of school. I will catch up and get back to 100% reviews written eventually. I'm astonished that this has finally happened and just want to say thanks so much.

Donovan finally got his Diamond TR status thanks to finally getting his 200th unique voter. D has had more than 1000 helpfuls for at least 18 months and if he had the uniques he would have been somewhere in the first 5 Diamond TRs. Many of us Donovan fans have been following his progress and watching for that Diamond for a looooonnnggg time. So I just want to say thanks to that anonymous voter.

In fact, if you cast a new vote for Donovan on Oct 21 or 22 let us know here. You may well have been the person who put him over the line. I, for one, will thank you. You should be proud that you made someone's day!
