We need to get a bunch of us together that live around NC. Maybe Charlotte area courses? Or maybe Triad or Raleigh. Anybody down for meeting up in these upcoming months?

If it's on a weekend in the next few months, I'm good for playing somewhere. I'd prefer a Raleigh area course - a little more central for the state. I'm more east coast. Set a date!

AdamCaudle

Maybe we could do Buckhorn, that's pretty Central. I'm thinking maybe April or May.

buckhorn is a tough course, it will eat plastic that weekend

BrotherDave
01-28-2010, 09:41 PM
Cedar Hills would be good but it'd be crowded probably, same goes for UNC. Sanford's good but the course is a little bit of the pitch and putt variety. But Chuck's pet store makes up for that IMO.

AdamCaudle

Hmmm. What about Cedarock/Wellspring? I know that's not Raleigh, but it's somewhat Central. And has plenty of room for a bigger group.

I'd love to do it there b/c it's like 20 minutes from me. I think you can camp there too, so that's an option for the more rugged DG'er. It has a sweet historic farmstead that I ignore very well too.

I'd actually like to try Cedarock/Wellspring - that's one of the ones I haven't yet played.

I'd vote for Cedarocka nd Wellspring. Something for everyone adn almopst no chance to lose a disc. But don't fear Buckhorn. That is where I have played the most. You could lose a disc, but it is not that bad. Are we not men??

I'm in... and I know discchainbasket18 is in. We'll come out whenever.

Although, we are trying to install a new course up here in Asheville and that has taken all my play time lately and I can imagine in the spring it will be taking up even more time once installation actually begins... but, I can take a day off to play with y'all.

Whichever course we play out there... let's make it a great one. Like Ashe County... not centrally located but probably on everyone in NC's wish list. Or possibly Fox Chase... it's slightly more centralized.

Keep us posted.

So tee off at Fox Chase will be at 10, we will just be having a casual round or maybe random draw doubles depending on turn out.

After that, a quick break for lunch. We can all go to the same place like a subway or Mcdonalds and do some socializing or we can all just break and meet at N Asheboro course in a couple of hours for the second round.

After that, if you have the time and money, maybe we can head to a local TGIF or whatever for some beers and dinner.

S***!!! The Mountain Disc Golf Experience tournament is that weekend... and I'm helping the TD run it. It's going to suck to miss this little get together.

On a side note, but related to the reason I can't be there... You may want to travel up to Asheville on Sunday and watch the Urban Skins. The top 4 players from the weekend tournament get to play through the streets of downtown Asheville. I know Big Jerm, Wiggy, and some other big names are going to be there trying to get into the skins round. Should be quite a show.

Have fun without me on Saturday... see ya in Asheville on Sunday,

No TGIF in Asheboro. The only chain restaurants that serve alcohol are: Chilis (meh), Rockola Cafe (boo), the Varsity (ripoff sports bar a la Buffalo WW, it sucks). There is a fairly good sized bar maybe 5 minutes down the road from the course called Zoo City Saloon but I haven't been there so I don't know about the eats situation. But they have pool and cornhole tourneys so they can't be too bad.

We are very lucky that Asheboro became wet recently.

Chili's ain't bad but it ain't that great either, wouldn't be a bad fall back place. Their $3 beers are nice. I can't find much info on the Zoo City Saloon so far but it wouldn't be bad to check out.

Ah but consistency is my problem. I may shine today but come Saturday... anything is possible. I expect that Fox Chase is going to put the beat down on my game. Hornets Nest certainly has the last few times I was out there. And let's not forget my putting game... weak!

One look at my "Years Playing" and everyone knows to keep away. Although I finally got my Valk to go 300' and down the center of the fairway the other day.

I know from playing with others that judging someone by "years playing" alone is not at all a good indicator of someone's ability. I've played with a few locals that have far few years playing than I but they make it up in the frequency with which they play. Their skill level is impressive to say the least.

I like the longs a lot, except for that one that doesn't technically exist in the corridor of pine trees (#4 I think?). That was painful.

The long tees there are very nice and really have a nice mix of distance and placement tee shots. Whatever that one hole is that has like no real fairway is the only hole I didn't really like and that could be fixed by removing one or two trees on the right side.

I like the longs a lot, except for that one that doesn't technically exist in the corridor of pine trees (#4 I think?). That was painful.

Yeah, that hole was rough. We got a little lucky, but I think the throw there is the forehand roller. Playing from in the trees is pretty neat, might have been a lot better if it were half the distance.

"Hey think I can hit that dumb line" - Me

*hits the first tree possible*

Well... you had to try to get a 3 on that hole, and that was the line to get the furthest down the fairway. You just kind of bailed on it.

LOL? What forbidden area of the Hogwarts campus are you playing in? Oh...I keep forgetting I quit my job and play golf during the day!

Hey what's with the high saturation of Concord/Kannapolis/Landis boys for an NC meetup? We gotta get a good 18-holer in OUR area, fellas. I mean, if Albemarle can have Fox Chase.......

I totally agree.

What they (whoever they is) need to do is turn No-Cab into an 18 holer. Plenty of room in that park for it.

Well...that has always been the hope. BUT, with the lack of success of the Cabarrus County Disc Golf Club (http://ccdgc.com/) it doesn't look like there has been enough interest in this area. It was rumored that they were going to start it back up this year but it has yet to happen

Any former South Rowan Raiders in the house?

Class of '95!!! Richie "Guy in fox shirt" also went to south. Also, contrary to popular belief he is a member of DGCR just not very active on the site.

As far as an 18 hole course in our area, yes plans are for one at N. Cabarrus but that may never happen. I went to Dan Nicolas Park a couple weeks ago and could just imagine an 18 holer there if not 36 holes. If you look on a GIS map you can see they are only using like half of the land available to them right now.

I sent an email to some guy in the Rowan Co. Parks and Rec. and he said they have considered it but first up is 9 holer in some little park in downtown Salisbury. Don't they understand the money would be so much better spent on a pro level course or two at Dan N. which could easily host an A tier or NT event? :wall:

Class of err.....( )!!! I played basketball for Coach Parker there more than a few years back. I believe he was coaching his son Adrian there around '95.

Whether it's unwise or not, I'm intrigued by this downtown 9-holer idea. This is the first I've heard of it. Perhaps it will be an upgrade over Kelsey Scott in both quality and location?.....Anybody know the exact spot?

I'd just like to see some long, arcing anhyzer and hyzer fairways mixed in at North Cabarrus. (And no, little hole # 6 doesn't count)

There are too many "straight ahead" drives or only slightly turning drives at NoCab.

What?? Do you want a prize becasue you have more skin pigment than Frank or the other guys in that picture??

I actually think there should be a Federal Tax Rebate Program for guys like them that gives them a huge tax credit. Afterall, they need to spend a lot of money on suntan lotion. And that is not fair dammit! Oh, the poor, pastey white guys...

I'm old, man. Class of 1988!--before they even had a soccer program.

I went to see the big West Forsyth game at South's stadium which probably took place during your senior year. Adrian was running perfect routes that night, but it was still a loss to the mighty Titans.

Anyway, good to see some former Raiders discin'.

Thanks for the info.

Okay, so Ellis Park is a few miles North of downtown Salisbury. I don't think I've ever been there.

At least it is closer to the population center, but then Dan Nicholas has camping if memory serves......

It's hard to associate Salisbury with a well-traveled, worldly, British singer-songwriter putting out quality music once you've lived there. Really hard.
