View Full Version : Where did you hear about DGCR?

timg

This is just something I'm kind of curious about. When I first launched the site at the end of May I posted it on various local forums but since then I haven't done much promotion other than posting fliers at the courses I play (if there's a spot to post one). With almost 350 members, 500+ reviews and many more non-registered players, the site is definitely on it's way to becoming the resource I hoped it would be when I first started it.

But back to the question at hand, where did you hear about the site?

My brother,(who is not a member) saw it somewhere and told me about it.

I saw a link from the NRDG site. Their "links" page brings you to a MSN forum, which is where I saw it first, then I noticed it again on the forum on the NRDG site itself.

Since then I have mentioned it to all of my friends that play disc golf, and one of them has become a member as well.

I don't remember what I was searching.......I was looking for info on the camo Carolina team bag and came across this post (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showpost.php?p=445&postcount=10). Took a look around and the rest is history.

I can't remember now, but one of the first places I remember hearing about DGCR was a thread on the PDGA DISCussion board. Tim, did you start that thread?

I'm also a member of the PDGA Course Evaluators group, and the DG Course Design Group. There may have been something posted there too. I know I'v posted to those groups about DGCR, so everyone in those groups has the word.

BTW, has a thread been put on the Disc Golf Review forums, http://www.discgolfreview.com/forums/ ? That would also be a great place to get the word out since they also have course review section.

Well, to answer my own question, I just went over to the discgolfreview.com forums. I found the thread that Tim started and the last post on it was by me on 12/3/07. I apologize for the slip up, but I was born without a short term memory.

A friend and I randomly bumped into two guys playing at Moraine State Park in PA this past summer (I believe late July...) and struck up a conversation. As it turned out, they were just starting up a site called dgcoursereview.com that sounded pretty awesome. Since then, anytime I've needed course info or the latest chatter on disc golf I've come to this page first! Hope you guys are still enjoying lots of courses! Thanks for the great site!

Hey PsyStal,

I remember that! Moraine was an awesome course, PA is a great disc golf state in general. Later that summer we toured the Pittsburgh area and then this spring we'll be traveling through Ohio.

That's because I followed the street directions for just about every course myself to get the lat/lon.

I think i Googled Disc Golf Forum or something of that nature. I too like the format of the site. I think that it works very well for such an opinion based site. The format is easy to read and understand. I too tell people about the site, it makes sense and its is honestly the best review site that I have found on the internet. Props to Timg! Now if only the PDGA would update their relic of a review site...

I was Googling "LTC Cleveland Disc Golf" to check up on some news releases the college does on my behalf when I inform them of an event or update to the course, and it was like the 3rd or 4th result. I clicked the link and saw that people were giving pretty favorable reviews to a course I helped design, was thrilled, and figured I'd sign up to put in my .02. Little did I know I'd become so addicted and obsessed with contributing as much as possible!...not just reviews, but photos from local courses, course info, and then these blasted forums...

And now, thanks to timg and his wonderful invention, I can't play a single round without having a scrap of paper to record all my strokes and putts, and the weather/conditions...;)

My brother (Miller) showed me when the PDGA website was down. My wife hates him for it. :)

The PDGA course directory was down and linked me to DGCR. Haven't used the PDGA course directory since.

Yea, for me it was the combo of the PDGA redirect and ERicJ having it in his signature line on our local forum.

I've started playing around 2 months ago. I have fallen in a deep, deep addiction with the sport. Yesterday I met two guys while zi was playing at Tueplo Bay, here in Myrtle Beach, where I currently on vacation. They both we're members. (RussMB and justin). Both we're super friendly guys who told me about the site for tips, discussions, and a way to keep up with scores/courses and what not. Kudos to RussMB and justin!

Hey, it was great meeting you and your crew Wes. I'm so glad you were happy to let us talk your ear off about DGCR. I've always said I think this site is the best thing to happen to disc golf on the web. Looks like the rest of the world is starting to agree with me.

I think I found the site in April 2006 (pretty early on). Tim had posted a link on the NEFA (New England Flying Disc Assoc) forum and then he got lambasted for unwanted advertizing. He apologized and said he didn't think he was doing anything wrong. Then he was apologized to because the lambaster thought Tim was trying to sell something and didn't look at the link. Fools!

Have I mentioned I F-ing love this place and all you fine folks? I don't even go on my local boards anymore.

I just did a google search for Winston Salem Disc Golf, and I think the links to some of the nearby courses were the first things on the list.

Last Summer, the Discgolfer mag ran an article reviewing DG Websites. This was one of them. There are other DG websites?

Buddy of mine always had the 'lowdown' on new courses we could play. Finally started looking at this site myself, and finally joined the forum a few months ago.

I found it the same way as a lot of folks, I googled "disc golf". I checked it out and was hooked ever since, learned a ton of stuff, met some great people and played a bunch of courses I probably never would have even heard of. Hats off to TimG, you do a great job!
