OK, so since I havvent gotten out a whole lot, I have been evaluating my bag and trimmed it down to the core discs; which you can see in my signature along with some I am trying out for distance drive and FH discs giving me this bag, which is mostly try outs:
DGA Other Blowfly 170g risky Putts
Discraft Elite Z Flick 169g OH, big hyzer
Discraft Elite Z Surge SS 169g Tryout for distance/FH
Gateway Evolution HPP Apache 175g Tryout for Distance/FH
Gateway Other Wizard 175g Driving and approach, putter when safe
Innova Champion Banshee 166g Forehand fairway, mid to fairway hyzer try out to retake OH spot
Innova Champion Groove 167g Tryout FH and OH
Innova Pro Leopard 161g Switched to pro for anny mid to fairway
Innova Champion Teebird 169g Most trusted disc, can do all roles
Innova Champion Valkyrie 150g Tryout distance, hyzer flip, FH
Latitude 64 Other Core 172g Straigh mid, anny for longer than wizard, shorter than Leopard
Latitude 64 Opto Line Vision 171g Tryout distance, Hyzer flip, FH
Now, each of my staples, I can BH and FH (with some finess) mostly a back hand thrower, hit 300' with Teebird, can get the Valk and got a Viking out to 325' probably 80% of the time back hand.
FH, the discs that are my staples (in sig) I finesse them, maybe 60% power and hit about 275' so looking to put some more nut into something.
So given that, I want to have a goto FH disc and a goto distance disc. Can go a little extra but dont want to carry more than 12 discs. Heres what I also have that are not in the bag right now, but doesnt mean I dont like them:
Discraft ESP FLX Avenger SS 165g
Discraft Pro D Banger-GT 174g
Discraft Elite X Banger-GT 174g
Discraft ESP Banger-GT 174g
Discraft Elite X Buzzz 164g
Discraft Glow Stalker 170g
Discraft ESP Stalker 173g
Gateway H Series Warrior 182g
Gateway Glow Wizard 175g
Gateway Other Wizard 175g
Innova DX Banshee 173g
Innova Champion Firebird 150g
Innova Champion Leopard 167g
Innova Champion Leopard 167g
Innova DX Puma 169g
Innova DX Stingray 167g
Innova DX Stingray 167g
Innova Champion Teebird 167g
Innova Champion Viking --
Quest Premier Defender 172g
Quest SRP Defender 171g
Any suggestions or thoughts?

its winter. you shouldnt really be evaluating your discs during these conditions. if you want to work on your bag wait til the snow thaws and get out in a field and throw. you'll figure out what you want better than anything any of us on here has to say.

I use a Starfire for FH only. They're overstable enough to overcome my OAT but not so much so that I can't s curve it and finesse it a bit. I've FH Teerexes, FLs, Wraiths, Surges, and Xcals too, the xcal is great if you don't want any turnover at all. The Surge SS is a nice distance driver.

If you are looking for more distance BH, I'd pick up a Katana. I can throw it 20-40' further than any other disc I've thrown. Unless you aren't looking to spend money and looking to go with what you've got. No advice for the FH shot, don't throw it

yea this winter has sucked. everytime the snow is almost gone we get another dang storm. im sure in grand rapids your getting it worse than us. i can remeber some visits to my grand parents in ludington where the snow was like 2ft+ high. i need to move my butt south!

This week we were starting to be able to see the grass in some places....then we got another 1/4 foot last night, and getting more this week. It sucks for DG, but it keeps my job going longer ;)

The TeeBird and Flick are both great FH discs for me. The TeeBird's a finesse disc that'll give you some great, accurate distance. I also like mine for thumbers. With the Flick you can put a lot into it, and it'll take it...and more. It loves to skip though. Your 150 Firebird will suffice as well.

I don't think the Surge SS will work too well for forehand. It's really understable compared to a regular Surge. Just like the Avenger and the Avenger SS.

Yeah, probably cant do a lot of changing with winter outside of the off chance I do get out to throw. Just bored I guess.
If I dont get out for a meaningfull round soon, I think I am going to snap. lol

To answer some of the ideas
I use a Starfire for FH only. They're overstable enough to overcome my OAT but not so much so that I can't s curve it and finesse it a bit. I've FH Teerexes, FLs, Wraiths, Surges, and Xcals too, the xcal is great if you don't want any turnover at all. The Surge SS is a nice distance driver.
Starfire, Surge and Xcal are on my list of things to try once I see what some of these discs I have do. Im hoping for something like the Surge SS to be useable both ways which is nice for my semi-minimalistic bag but that may not be how it works out.
If you are looking for more distance BH, I'd pick up a Katana. I can throw it 20-40' further than any other disc I've thrown. Unless you aren't looking to spend money and looking to go with what you've got. No advice for the FH shot, don't throw it
I had a 167 Pro Katana and it would go a little right, RHBH, then hyzer way off to the left so I traded it. It might have actually been decent FH but Im just not sure I would like the room it seems to want.
The Teebird is the one I get 275' with now and it always seems to land dead ahead after S-ing left then comming back right. Its also my best BH disc. I can overhand it but I dont to save it some abuse; it gets plenty of work as it is.
The Flick I generally get a huge hyzer out of but I might try nutting on it at an anny angle see if I can get a huge flex shot with it.
The Firebird at 150 BH tends to just fly like the Teebird but with a bit more fade. It likely will get back in the bag to see if it can take a little more power FH than the Teebird.
I don't think the Surge SS will work too well for forehand. It's really understable compared to a regular Surge. Just like the Avenger and the Avenger SS.
You might be right. Reason I went with the Surge SS is because I had a DX Wraith I tried to forehand but it hyzered out on me just a little too much so I was thinking the Surge is similar so the Surge SS might just be right where I want it, but that was back before I really found my forehand and was just trying to do one.
Thanks for the input. I think I might try to squeeze the Firebird back in to see how it works FH, and I got some others to think about as distant drivers and I can see how some of these work out FH on whether I need a Starfire or Xcal.

Your Stalker deserves a FH consideration, too. It's got glide for days so you don't need to put a lot of muscle behind it. It will also take some snap without turning over. It is a finesse disc like the TeeBird (which will easily give you another 75') though.

Winter evaluation....Hmmm. Read earlier that it's not a good time. Debatable. Certainly not for big D drivers, since footing is crap. But it forced me to a smaller bag, since there is no need to carry the extra weight of 22 discs, and fast drivers that I can't throw correctly anyway. Small bag, minimum molds is just easier with trudging through snow in bulky clothing. 12 discs, 6 molds.
For me, this has force me to learn additional shot making, due to the tougher conditions. Standing throws, windier, colder, bad grip, FH, and so on. I'm finding I'm loving DX plastic, since it has good grip, which has me using Rocs and Gazelles. Even ditched the Eagles (for now) Slower discs are easier to throw in less than ideal conditions and I've seen no loss in distance or control.
Funny thing is that when spring arrives and the conditions improve, I don't see myself changing, except for working with a big D driver, most likely a Surge, Surge SS, or Wraith and removing Valks once a break in a SOLF.
Of course, if you have 20" of snow on the ground, then you're in a different boat. ;)

Ahh yes. One of them is Glo so it will get its shot a lot but will be reserved for night. I do have to get the ESP one back in there though.

Actually thinking about it, as soon as it gets warm, I think its time to load up my large bag and hit a field. Will give me more drives for each disc than just as I go through a round.

Loose the Blowfly. The only risky putts are the ones you have no confidence in. Buy another Wizard and throw it like you own it. I have been doing this and have hit more 'risky' 30 footers than I ever dreamed of making. If you think it is risky then in your mind you have already missed it, and the blowfly is just a good excuse to miss some putts.
But i a not a real good played so i could be full of ****, but it works for me.

I've been using my large bag when I want to carry some extra discs to try or practice, but I've been really trying to just carry the smaller bag (12-13 discs) and it has helped me alot.

Its not so much the putt is risky but the landing is. I get what your saying but that Blowfly is a stroke saver by giving me the piece of mind to go for it and not worry about missing. If I just throw the Wizard, I will be thinking about how its going to miss and roll into that fast running creek, or fall down the 30' tall cliff.

Yeah, I prefer carrying the small bag but my dumb ass has so many great discs I really like, or need to try more so I gotta take them all out and let them make their case. Got an FLX Avenger SS I love and want to re-visit. I gotta quit buying new discs

ROFL dont need the big bag. Managed to add the 150 Firebird, ESP Stalker, and Avenger SS for a total of 15 discs in my Fade Crunch.
Time for an elimination round.
