I played a little bit a few years ago, but only started really playing the last couple months. I can get it out about 400' but Ive gotten it just about 420' too, all RHFH not counting the skip or roll. Im curious to see where other players currently are in there distance, and how long theyve been going at it

I've play for a while since about 1996, I stopped playing about 4 years ago because of work/school and not really having the time to get out. I started up again about 6 months ago. I've always been able to drive about 325 to 350 RHBH. I used to beable to throw a RHFH about 375 to 400, but for some reason now I can't throw a RHFH it turns over and starts rolling after about 100ft.

I've been playing about 4.5 years.
If I am throwing for distance I can get around 400 feet, and have thrown over 500 on downhill shots.
In an actual round of golf I probably drive closer to 350, because I can be accurate at that distance.
I can throw forehand around 350 as well.

Just over 6 months now and prior to working with Dan Beato - my typical drives were between 250-300 ft. and I could hit 350 ft. on a VERY good day.
Now, I'm throwing putters at everything under 200 ft. and nailing that distance. My drives are going much farther as well, but until it gets nice again (no extra layers, warmer air) I really won't know what my new max is.

Been playing a little over 4 months now. I started out RHBH because everybody else was doing it. Got bad knees, so from the get go I was a little hesitant to really crank BH throws. Averaged about 200=225' with little accuracy.
One night, got on Youtube and saw a video on forhand drives. Next day, with a little practice, I was punching out around 300' with a big increase in accuracy.
I play almost every day so I've worked very hard on little tweaks in my techinque and now I can crank them out around 400' on a good day. Now I can flick one sidearm, flat footed out about 280'.
It's been bugging me for a few weeks now that I'm basically a one armed bandit with a very dominant forehand. If I'm going to improve, I have to develope a solid backhand because there are some situations that a forehand can't handle.
Over the last week, I've played over half my rounds using nothing but backhand shots. It's improving little by little. I've had a few drives around 320-350' but most are in the 300' range. Got one out to 380' but it was from a 8' elevated tee box with a tailwind so I don't count that one.
Two things, accuracy is still a problem and the tendency to want to switch to a forehand when a shot comes up I can easily handle that way.

Been playing for about 1 1/2 years (I don't count the summer of '95, because I didn't know what the hell I was doing), and started out RHFH hitting on average 320'. Now for the last couple of months switched to RHBH and improoved from about 250' to over 300'. Now my problem is on the course switching back and forth....if I use RHBH for a couple of holes and I come up to a good forehand hole, I usually nose dive the disc about 100' out and have no control. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. (My forehand disc is a 172 star destroyer, the rest of my discs rollover on me)

Try going to a more overstable disc ala Destroyer, Boss, or Xcal, and if you are using them try going up in weight with these discs. I roll everything else alsso when throwing RHFH, because I produce alot more torque, so these are the only ones I won't turnover. I tried a 167 DX destroyer and rolled it over but my 172 star destroyer flies pretty level and straight.

i've been playing since april, so about 8 months...i really am kind of sheltered since the only course i get to play on a regular basis, i only get to play the front 9 at lunch...that being said, there are a couple of open holes to test distance, and if i get a clean throw off (about 80% of the time), i usually nail 350' or so in the thick winter air (wasn't throwing this long in the summer), and some have broken 400'...i look to be 400+ on a regular basis come spring...it's funny that the guys i normally shoot with from work used to make me look really bad on D starting out, now none of them can usually outdrive me...i'm a strong-arm type thrower BTW, i need to work on my finesse so i can get better accuracy along with the distance...

Thanks, I have a 175 Star Destroyer and will try it out. I've been trying my Champ Orc, and valkyrie. I used to use a Cyclone way back when but have not been able to get another one that I like.

I had that same problem when I started mostly BH's (see my previous post above). All of a sudden, my forehand drives were torque roll overs about 100' out.
What cured it was really concentrating on the release angle of the disc. I held it at a little more lateral down angle and it worked. More like a flip hyzer.

Ive found one thing thats been increasing my distance is to stop using high speed discs like the destroyer and boss as regularly. Now for many of those throws Ill use my champion orc, and when I do bust out the destroyer it seems to fly a lot smoother and further for me. Its all about developing a technique and maximizing your potential with easier discs before moving up to those ones that are supposed to fly and not stop

I've been playing for 2+ years, and a good drive goes 300'. A great drive goes 325' and probably my best is around 350', maybe 375'. I seem to have a lot of variance in both distance and accuracy, though I've been improving both by moving away from the highest speed discs and going lighter as well. I think I threw further and more accurately after my first year--I think I'm getting a bit worse in my driving. But my putting is much much better so I end up being about the same :-)

I've been playing for 5 years and measured on a football field, I'm confident I can consistantly get my putters 250', mids 300' and drivers 350'-380'. If we aren't talking about consistancy, you can add about 30' to each category. If we're talking about one time throws, I've hit 350' with both putters and mids, ~420 with Teebirds, Valks, Infernos and Avengers and a ~430 with a Pro Orc.

Dude, 450' is a perfect shot in the open on a warm day, we won't be seeing any of those any time soon. Have you played Shoaff's alternates, yet?

yesterday I had my longest, unintentional, drive ever. I was shooting on a 350' hole and launched my star destroyer. I was expecting it to come back right like normal and land 10-15 feet on either side of the basket, like my normal good drives. It cut a great S curve but didnt turn right until way down in its flight path and I picked up at least 420' if not up to 440 or 50. My approach saved me, but I was amazed enough by my distance I didnt mind being so far off in my calculation.

No I have not played the alternate tees yet, you were the one that mentioned to me that they existed. I suggested Shoaff because it's the only course in the Fort that has open longer holes.
I wish I would have measured my distance when I first started to know how much I've improved since then. Anyways, hopefully I can work on it in the spring and start hitting the 400s consistently.

I've been playing about a year and a half now, not counting my "discovery" of the sport back in college and subsequent 7-year layoff.
My "full strength" backhand drives are usually between 300-350', depending on whether I'm throwing for control or distance. My form is still developing, and I expect I'll add a little distance in the next year or so. I only tee off with a forehand drive when I really need to lay up to a controlled point on a tricky fairway, because I honestly can't figure how to get my forehand out beyond 200'. I'm sure there's something wrong with my form or my choice of discs, but I haven't solved it yet. As everyone seems to be fond of saying, I can throw it farther in the right conditions, but I'm not a guy who can throw it through the goal posts from the back of the opposite end zone with any consistency.

Seems like a lot of exaggerated 'guesstimates', and a few honest answers.
I've been playing less than 6 months and have found "the forehand flick" to be the best throw for accuracy and distance. I can't believe the distance achieved with this shot! I can consistently throw out to 325 ft with relative ease. I love this shot. I use a Star Destroyer , a Champion Wraith, or a Star FL. The FL is a great upshot disc while the Star Destroyer can add phenomenal distance with the Wraith being the go to disc in tough corridors.
I use the Star FL with a forehand Anhyzer flight path. This shot (right forehand with disc breaking to the RHFH's left) is very accurate too.
I usually can forehand every drive with improved accuracy!
I love this shot!

No one is going to throw the same drive distance every time.. If the thread title was 'what is the average distance of your drives' you would get a different answer. I think an average throw is probably 50 feet shorter than what most people list as their maximum. I can't throw 400 feet consistently... maybe 350.. On most courses you will never have to throw over 400 feet to be competitive.

How much does that laser pointer cost? Where can you buy them? And what's the margin of error to a point on flat ground say, 300 feet away?
By the way, I measured (estimated) my drives using distances between landmarks on a field with Google Earth.
I'm lucky to practice once a week and might get to play twice a month on a course in a good month. I've just been playing two years now with disc golf discs and hadn't even played thow and catch more than once a year for over 20 years (I'm 41 now).
My distance started out at about 175' almost right from the beginning with a 175g DX Valkyrie in March of 2007 using a standard "frisbee" grip RHBH. I improved to about 250' consistently after I changed to a power grip & 150g Champion Valkyrie with 290' being my best legit measured throw by November of 2007 on flat ground with no wind.
This year I pretty much picked up where I left off last fall. I stagnated around a consistent 270' until around August when I made some minor adjustments to my technique. I really thought that I was making some improvements but didn't get out onto a nice open field to measure until last week when I just got out on a football field. I was very pleased. I was up around 290' on about 2/3 of my throws and over 300' on the rest with my longest being 327' within the confines of the playing field.
It was awesome for me to be able to throw from end zone to end zone consistently when last year I never came close to this when on a football field. I'm not getting any younger, so it must be technique. I've messed with several different discs and my 150' Champ Valkyries by far serve me best right now for both distance, and expecially accuracy.
And if I'm not mistaken, this should be post #100 so I had to make it a long one!!!! :D

my longest drives I measure by throwing on a course with low traffic and compare the disc relative to the basket, how far past it the disc has gone, and using a 350' hole I think Im able to get a relatively decent estimation of where Ive ended up. I dont think my driving is gonna get any longer anytime soon, but hopefully my accuracy gets better. My brother plays a lot, and has been playing in tournaments for a couple years. Hes significantly better than I am, and I just want to be able to compete with him, at least just a little bit when we playe together in a couple weeks when he visits

I've been playing about four y6ears. Summer before last I got to the point where I could hit 300 most of the time. But I hurt my knee and missed a month. And then it was winter time. Then his past summer I mainly played instead of practicing drives. So I'm down to the 250-270 range with most of my throws. Occasionally I still hit 300. Hopefully next summer I can get back to doing it on a regular basis.

You can find it on ebay for under $240 these days. I bought mine at Gander Mountain.
The Monarch 800 error is +/- 1 yard and has accuracy reading of 0.5 yards.
I chose the Nikon for its reputation for quality and ease of use. No messing with a bunch of modes like on other brands; just priority mode and distance mode.
Measuring to flat ground is possible but not recommended as your accuracy will vary with how steady you can hold the laser. You're better off doing something like this: throw first, then walk to the disc and shoot a measurement back to the tee sign, or landmark such as your DG bag left where you threw from.

I will warn people that distances listed on tee signs vary anywhere from "sorta close" to "way off." A lot of people think they know how far they're throwing until they get out to a football field.
It's also worth noting that torquing over a super fast driver 350' and throwing a slow fairway driver 350' are really different throws.

i have thrown an eagle past the pin on a 300'+ hole, and i know i usually throw my longer drivers farther than that, kinda backs up my other paced out numbers...not exact...but should be close....but i am absolutely not going to spend a couple hundred bucks on a range finder to be more accurate...

We have a football field between holes 12 and 13 at my home course. I can consistently throw end zone to end zone (360). There is a fence about 15 feet past that about 6 feet high. I have cleared it once and hit a crap load of times. Remember when you are playing the signs and distances aren't always accurate so take the time to look at the hole. Been playing so long I should be a lot better (6 years.)

2 and a bit years, and depressingly i get to play about once a week. This basically means i get to play between 50-80 shots a week!! and thats about 20 drives!! So im stuck at 320 (i have a post about this) But thanks to everyone of the living legends that are on this forum, im getting a little further. But the course i play is quite hilly, so my longer distances that i have throw are probably not so long on flat ground. Ive heard that the 'average' drive is around 330. no matter how long you've been playing.

A couple of days ago, I went out to Falcone Park here in SA. It's what I call a beginner course with 9 holes, about a dozen trees with a few ups and downs in elevation.
The #9 hole is a straight away, slight uphill with the sign saying it's 375'.
I made the loop 4 times. 3 of the 4 times, my drive was 20-25' away, dead even with the pin and the 4th time, I was about 20' past the pin. There was about a 5 mph quartering wind into my face so I was pleased with my attempts.
Oh, I used a 172g Discraft Force forehand all 4 times.

yesterday a friend and I went out to an open field with his GPS and measured some drives. We would mark the spot where we started and then throw, and watch the feet go up as we were walking to the discs.
I was actually surprised as I have played many holes marked 280 that I could easily drive however my drive in the field consistently came up to 260. I am fine with that though as I have been only 6 months and the consistency is very new to me!!

I don't play tourneys and my home courses are relatively short (Morley and Montiel in San Diego). I max out at about 350-375' with my Destroyer. My buddy gets into the 400-425' range, but we have a lot of obstacles that he still has to get through. It took me a few years to get consistent. I have stopped focusing on trying to get anymore distance and I am working on Accuracy and different shots.
