I'll be heading down to see Phish() @ the Hampton Coliseum, Friday March 6,
and Saturday March 7. Anybody have suggestions on which course I play during
the day on Saturday? I'd like to keep the course in the area of the coliseum.

Bayville Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=790) is about 20 minutes away. It's a nice short, flat course, with multiple tee pads and baskets to make it more challenging. 18 plus 2 extra holes.

Duh, whats the name of this website we're on? Thanks DWill, I didn't even
realize how handy this site was.

Bayville is a bit more that 20 minutes with bridge traffic. But Newport News Park might be the same distance away, that would be my suggestion, with New Quarter just up the road as well. Give me a shot when you're down, I throw a couple rounds with ya. Heck, the 7th is my born on date :)

Definately check out Newport News and New Quarter (best course I've ever played). Both courses are pay to play but worth it. I love Bayville, but you are better off playing the other two (they are about 10 - 15 min apart) because they are on the right side of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (which could be backed up a good 30 min at least)

New Quarter is a definite must play! Best course around and well worth the price and the effort. Be sure to read the reviews for prices and info.
Not sure what kind of route you're taking, but if it takes you close to VA Tech/Christiansburg, VA the Golden Hills course there is a lot of fun. It's very wooded and hilly if that's you kind of course. There are a lot of pics of the course on DGCR.
If you end up there, make sure you use a spotter in the woods! The leaves ought to be pretty thick in the rough now and there are a lot of blind tee shots. So you don't want to have to spend a bunch of time "phishing" for you discs. Ouch! That even hurt me to say it!

Sure just let some of us know about it and I'm sure we'll get a group out there playing. I'm always game if I am off work. I work the 6th but am off the 7th of March.

Sedgely Woods was an object course before becoming permanent in the fall of 1978. One year after Bayville was banging the chains!:D

I am going to be flying in for the Phish shows too and staying in Newport News. I am looking forward to playing New Quarter and Newport News. Are they easy to navigate for out of towners? Are there a lot of blind baskets?

newport news is easy, new quarter will have some blind baskets but has excellent signage and a great scorecard available. new quarter park is currently closed on weekdays for the winter i believe, don't know when that changes.

I'll be attending the weekend shows too and plan to check out some golf.
I'm a morning person and am thinking I'll do an early round Saturday....8ish at the Quarter. Start playing at like 8:30.
If you get up early or are wanna keep the party rolling from the night before, I'll see you there.
These shows are gonna be sweet, sounds like the golf is too. I can't freakin wait!:D

Its almost time to get loose! I'm picking my friend from CO up in Norfolk, and we're staying in VA Beach. It sounds like Newport News, and New Quarter are going to be where its at. Hopefully I see some of you there.

i'll cast another vote for new quarter, great all around course with a great pro shop. If there is one course in the VA beach area thats the one to play.

I played Bayville in the summer of 2007, I aced hole 3 (stealth ace gloat), and they were not discatchers at that time. 20 holes, with 2 baskets per hole, so you are saying they replaced all 40 baskets with discatchers, wow, that sounds expensive. What did they do with the old baskets? They didn't seem in disrepair that I can remember.

va beach has the cash, it's a huge tourist trap...i liked the mach 1's..it made for some interseting spit outs and even spit ins...the bottom of the basket was "wide open" for soft putters to sneak thru..was wondering what are peoples favorite baskets?...discatchers are my least fav...i love the chainstar with no number plate...putts that are too high skip a mile off the top
bobojones666

they sold all the old baskets in an auction to the public for pretty cheap from what i heard

Alot of people are complaining about them cus the bottom basket comes up higher now and the band around top is bigger. it just has taken getting used too and everyone is still playin.

They did replace all 40 with discatchers, one set red and the other yellow, i believe. looks really nice and has great signage, Va beach sure has the money because munden point is the same great signs and two baskets per hole. as for the old baskets they sold them like previously stated at auction, they are still floating around though, i almost bought up 9 of them of craigs list for my course in colonial heights, but then the city paid for 9 so i'm happy for now.

They are tryin to get another course put out here in virginia beach but the cant convince the mayor on it. alot of the old tiomers at bayville go to every meeting for it and say they are getting closer to approval.

Well, since I'm staying in VA Beach, I'm probably going to play Bayville.
Is it a pay course?
Can I drink beer out there in a discrete fashion?
Will it be as busy as people state in the reviews?
bobojones666
03-04-2009, 12:22 PM
you dont have to pay it is a park. you can drink beer with discretion cus all you see in the trash cans at everyhole is beer cans. i should know alot of them are mine. It probably will be crowded some this weekend cus its gonna be the first really good weekend this year and everyone goes there on those days. but it is a good fun course just watch for other diascs flying at your head alot of the holes crosseach other or are right next to each other

They have slacked off alot now. i guess its cus everyone there drinks now and doesnt cause any trouble. just dont make it obvious and go to the other side of the park where the kid area is. me and my buddies play there quite often and bring a 12 pack every time. just put the beer in a coozie and make sure there cans.
