Do you have much time to play with all the dyeing? And I gotta ask, are all of the discs you play with custom dyed or do you have some that are not dyed?

I would have to admit that almost 90% of my personal discs are UNDYED... i have 1 dyed disc in my bag right now. :(
Yeah i was actually unemployed for a couple years, and just dyed discs all day. Not that im working a full time job i don't have much time for it... but lately i have been trying to get more dye jobs going.
Once my order from innova goes through i will have some dyes for sale again.

you said you do not cut your designs by hand, what do you use? I have done quite a few discs all by hand, but was curious of your method.
I bow to the master you do great work!:)

I use a vinyl plotter to cut all my designs. For every disc i do... there is a few hours of computer time involved, as i have to make the vector art, so my plotter can cut the design out.
I cannot wait to get dying on some new plastic. I will post a picture of 2 Christmas discs that i just finished.

What do you use to cut the patterns?
discgolforegon
12-25-2008, 03:11 AM
I use a vinyl Express Qe60 plotter. It can cut anything i want up to 24 inches wide. I buy rolls of 15 inch vinyl to make dye stencils... pretty neat, i can cut like 10-20 patterns at a time then just use them when i need them.
Using vinyl stencils cut with a plotter is the ONLY way to achieve multiple color designs without flaws. And cutting vinyl on the disc is risky. I have never once cut vinyl on any of my discs. Lemme see if i can dig up a picture of one of my stencils...

Another vote for "keep em coming!"

did you completely submerge the make 7 up yours disc?
discgolforegon
12-29-2008, 04:49 PM
no...the make 7 disc was hand painted with dye... I wanted to make it look like the green had a pattern, sort of like water? you will notice how its kinda of streaky... that was on purpose.
Also note that on the bottom of the disc my stencil went over the innova patent, and location info... and that caused some really small bleeds. in the center of the disc i had to hand trim the flashing, and the center nipple to make sure it was as flat as possible. Kind of a pain in the arse but it turned out pretty nice.

What do you charge to do a design?
discgolforegon
09-18-2009, 06:34 AM
The amount I charge is generally based upon the complexity of the dye. I like to think im pretty cheap. But i strive to have the best available. If it bleeds its free basically.
You can send me the disc, or i have a few hundred in stock right now.
I just got in a bunch of Eco Star Destroyers, Eco Xcals, Star Wraiths, Champ Destroyers, Champ bosses, and i have a full line of latitude available. I have other stuff too but I don't want to type a huge list.

I love this thread, keep the pics coming!
You had mentioned that the Make 7 Up Yours disc was hand dyed as to make it streaky. How would I dye the bottom of the disk if I didn't want to hand paint it?
discgolforegon
09-22-2009, 02:22 PM
just submerge the disc in dye. or fill the underside of the disc with the color you want.
skinner21
09-22-2009, 02:36 PM
how would I prevent it from getting on the top of the disc? Would I have to vinyl the whole disc and how can I do that without it bleeding where the vinyl meets?
sorry for the 20 questions, but you seem like you know alot about dying disc and lord knows your good at it.

You just place the disc upside down and fill the inside with dye until its right to the top... after about 30 minutes carefully drain the dye and wash the disc. and that would only dye the underside of the flight plate. if you want to dye the underside of the rim just carefully float the disc in a pan of dye. if you are very carefull and take your time there will be no dye on the top flight plate.

the bears logo is REALLY easy to do by hand. A little time consuming, but since there are so many curvy lines that mistakes are impossible to notice. Give it a try by hand and you'll see it's very simple to trace.
