Okay, you may remember my thread about Myrtle Beach getting 8 new courses. If not, click Here (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12497). I know that patience is key, and in due time, things will appear. I get that, what I'm having trouble with is trying to get these people to respond with more info than "Yes, we are installing them". Then when I ask for details, I never hear from them again. Which is now, what I expect to hear. I just wanted to know if any of you ever had trouble getting info from a Parks and Rec board, and if so, what avenues did you take? I would like to get involved with their installations, but I can't even get a response! Nada! Just wanted some Ideas on how to get them to respond. I would really like to hear from some of you that work for a parks department.

Do you go to park board meetings? We make presentations to them for courses.

Well, the boards have already approved the courses. So they have green light. I just can't seem to get any info from any of the Parks and Rec committees. I do know that the Georgetown County PnR has had a change in personnel, which has caused some derailing. But Horry County, just doesn't seem to want to respond to my emails. You would think that someone that is enthusiastic about Disc Golf, in an area that has barely even heard of the sport, would be an asset to be in contact with. G'town has been great, their hold up is that they are building parks that will house a DG course, so I get that. The parks have to get put in first. (Oh The Myrtle Beach area sits on 2 counties. Horry and Georgetown) It's Horry county that I can't get any responses from. Plus there are two entities. The County is installing 3 and expanding 1 to 18. The City is installing another, and it is being managed by developers. It's a crap shoot as to who will respond and if they do, will they know anything.

You never can tell. Several times when I worked in parks and recreation I called places that I heard were installing courses. I was a parks and recreation professional with a B.S. in Parks and Recreation Administration working in the field who had designed courses, operated a pay for play course, run profitable leagues and tournaments, and ran a disc golf concession that sold 10,000 discs/year. You would have thought somebody would have liked to talk to me. Nobody did. I got blown off left and right. Most places never bothered to call me back. The few that did told me they had it under control. Several of them installed horrible courses that I could have helped them with quite a bit. Not much you can do when no one will listen.

could always put a hookup ad on craigslist that mentions your perspective course location. once it gets a bad rep, the city folk will generally want to fast track the course to displace the ne'er-do-wells. it worked for Chavez Ridge (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/reviews.php?id=1109&page=1&mode=rev#17888).:\

I had to read that twice to make sure I was reading it right! lol I like that though! I think that would actually work around here. ...as long as it was in one those "Uppity" areas. They ran Home Depot out of town! lol

Three Putt- I think that is what I'm up against. I can't be sure, but I've seen a lot of the "I've got a great idea! We can...". That is actually what I'm afraid of! The course I've seen, Loris Nature Park (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3763&mode=ci), it isn't bad. But, It wasn't greatly thought out. I even sent this guy an email warning him about how one hole goes right by a playground. Not near it, right smack dab next to it! I told him how my disc hit a tree and rocketed right into the play area. (I was there at 9am, so the park was empty) If a kid had been there, he would have been drilled! I got nothing back from him about it. It's literally a lawsuit just waiting to happen!
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I wish there was something that could be done to get there attention! I may have to use Apoth's Idea! lol

We got Miami Whitewater Forest course in 1976 because the park board wanted something to keep the teenagers from just hanging around with nothing to do.
Mt Airy Forest course was put in the area it's located in the park because a lot of sexual activity was going on there, they tried having a big sting and arrested about 50 guys, they said all that did was advertise to everyone else into that type of public behavior to go to that park. Once they start letting us use it for a temporary course, the activity stopped so they asked us to install it permanently.

Not sure what the rule is now, but back then the PDGA rule was 2 minutes to search for a lost disc, in Mt Airy that rule was enforced by local law enforcement. The law in Mt Airy (and all Cincinnati parks) says a person is not allowed to hang out in a bush for longer than 2 minutes....true story.

Disc golfers are like the Marines in the fight against gay prostitutes in parks...they send us in first.
