Moore county NC, America's Home of Golf.......hope you don't play disc golf, if so your gonna have to fill up the gas tank and go for a drive.....until now
The town has allowed the use of the land, the course is designed, now we just need $$,$$$.
It will be a fun layout, introducing this great game to an area that needs a good course (a seed course) short technical holes along with elevation changes and varying tree density should allow the new golfer a taste of what disc golf is.

That is great news! I have to ask though..you are aware that Moore County already has a DG course right? Hillcrest Park in Carthage. Judging by the pics this course is going to look a lot like Hillcrest albeit a little more wooded.Hopefully it will have a few less "WTF" holes as well.

It is not like hillcrest at all...no wtf holes no stupid walks (no graveyards or dumps either)
the course will transition from tight pines(1-3) to hard wood trees(4-5) then to tree lined meadows(6-15) than back into the pines (16-18)
the tree density is very open on some holes and there will be lots of elevation
for this area (fast greens)
the best part about this course will be the views!......and playing in the wind:clap:

I have walked the trail around this reservoir numerous times and always admired the area as a great place to have a course. I have even envisioned holes as I walked. The pine area is more like a savanna not like a tree farm as Hillcrest is. I know that Sandhills Community College is interested in forming intramural DG and maybe even a traveling D G team as they now do with Ultimate. They may be interested. It would be great to do a combined course with them. Their property is non the opposite side of the reservoir. They have even suggested an interest in a course on campus but this is now a great time budget wise. Who is doing the design work? As I remember a course layout was proposed last year but a portion of it was off the property. I look forward to playing there.

Sandhills Community College has great land that connects to the reservoir...it would be a world class course for sure!...but budget wise, I believe will need a few years.....That is why the reservoir course will be smaller to gain interest in this disc golf starving area...(long tees will be much more fun for the avid golfer)....(projected ssa short 44.5?....Long ssa 50? don't hold me to it)

Is there a possibility of getting a hole or 2 closer to the water? I would love to see one across a section?

Ditto. Nothing makes me more disappointed than playing a course that has the potential to use elevation or water and doesn't.

the problem with that is the walking trail...it has to be avoided at all cost
......The map was just used for the proposal meeting not actual layout....

Just got back from the reservoir, we were out there with a tractor cutting in the fairways and walking paths. All in all it looks great! The tees were marked with paint as well as the locations for the tee signs (flags off to the side of the tee not the ones in front) As for the hole locations they are marked with flags and paint, the greens were also cut.

I went out to the park yesterday to take a look-see the course is really taking shape. I walked all 18 holes, it is much easier to follow the holes than it was a couple months ago and I did not even have the layout with me. I am excited and hope that plastic will be flying out there soon.

From what I understand the baskets have been ordered and should have arrived this week. You can contact Robert Reeve CPRP director of Southern Pines Parks and Rec. and he can give you more information. Reeve@southernpines.net He said

Hey brothers I had to take my mom down to Carolina Eye this morning which is usually a 2 hour wait for me after she goes in so I decided to head over to Reservoir Park and guess what, the baskets are in, so I ran back to the car grabbed a disc and played 18 holes as fast as I could, had a blast.

so far the lowest round i've heard from the course is a three down...and it is from a girl...
on a different note the basket on hole 15 was placed in the wrong location...working on moving it...its hard when you live 750 miles away...

I have been surprised with the number of folks I have seen at the Reservoir playing DG. I went there yesterday for the 2nd time and was really surprised I. I saw about 25 people playing it the time I was there and the course is not officially open yet. I talked to one fellow that came from Charlotte to play it, another who had just purchased his first golf disc. If the play continues at its present level (of course it should increase) this place will be beat in, in no time. When tees and signs are in place it should be a great play.

is anyone connected with the parks department there in moore county? the parks and rec department (then led by Robert Reeves not sure if he's still in charge) is well run and has a great youth program in place. I feel like this new course and a revamp at hillcrest could provide a nice foundation for grassroots dg in an overly ball golf area (which is fine btw!). Not to mention the Oneal school, pinecrest, and scc very close by so that they could establish some kind of ragtag group/club to make moore county and these courses better! I'll be checking this out next time I head that way....
