Does anyone know if they plan to add any more courses in the near future? I always enjoy playing Rankin Lake and I am surprised they don't have that many courses being as they are right next to Charlotte.

being as they are right next to Charlotte.

That's why there's not more. I am from Kings Mtn. and played my first tourney at Rankin Lake DGC. It's a great course, but with Renny and Hornets Nest not more than 20 min away...they are going to be hard pressed to put more in. I would look more out the Cleveland Co. way. They have a large amount of untapped resources. With Kings Mtn and Crowder Mtn right there, there is a plethora of untapped space for some great elevation dg.

I agree with this. We're too close to the Big City, where everything is better. However, we will get more courses, someday.

You didn't have anything to do with the G-Town throwdown in 07 did you? That was a well run tourney, but I haven't really seen anything out of that area in a while. Koling, Crump, Johansen...there were some big names there. I would start looking the other direction from Charlotte for space to put courses. They could be the same drive time, but more scenic and probably less lower end play. There is prime territory for some more championship style courses.

In a more direct answer to your question, I've heard rumors of a course being planned in Cramerton since before I started playing disc golf, which admittedly is not that long ago. I think a part of the problem here is that the club isn't all that focused, or something along those lines. I could go into more detail, but I'd rather not. Also, there are just not that many people who play living in G-Town, but the scene is growing.

Jack is Gastonia. One could not survive without the other.

No, I've only been around the disc golf scene for about a year, if that. There is talk of trying to do another G-Town Throwdown this year.

There is some terrific topography here in Gaston County, but it's mostly privately owned. There has also been talk of a course at Poston Park, but I think it's all talk at this point.

Good to know that my former stomping grounds are in good hands.

That's not entirely true.

I don't know how true this is either.

OK, let me correct that. Rumor is that Gastonia's bars could not survice without Jack!

Patrick, how often do you get back up this way?

There may be some truth in that statement.

2-3 times a year. I was there two weeks ago to pick up a car, but wasn't there for more than 36 hours. I hit the small 9 holer in Shelby. I really want to ace that short hole. We were hoping to make it up for Carolina Am Champs, but my wife's coworker is due to have a baby that week so we don't think that we'll be able to take off the whole week. There was a 1 day B-tier in Knoxville the following weekend that we were going to try to hit on the way home...oh well. It would have been cool.

I played Palmer Park for the first time yesterday, and I only took 2 disc with me. I threw them both at that basket, and would have thrown my whole bag if I would have had it with me, and more than that if I would have had them. the sign said 110 feet, I think. It looked more like 75, if that.

Let me know when you're heading this way next time.

So... we'll be up that way for Charlotte am Champs! We'll be up there the most of the following week as well. I'll be out at Gastonia at some point for sure.
