Just curious how many discs do you currently own?
How many have you owned in your lifetime and how many years have you played???
I can see wanting to have at least 20 you use regularly, but other discs you might want to have around for specific courses if you get good enough to know what to expect.
Is there a limit on how many discs you carry in a tourney???

I have owned 40 discs since I first played somewhere around December of 2007. Most of these discs were owned after April of 2008. I currently have ~20 discs; 7 of which are bagged, 5 are in a bag for my father, and I have a stack of extras in my closet.
I'd say ~10 were traded to PIAS and about the same number where lost at some point or another.

Just curious how many discs do you currently own? About 400.
How many have you owned in your lifetime and how many years have you played??? No clue. Maybe 700 over 15 years.
I can see wanting to have at least 20 you use regularly, but other discs you might want to have around for specific courses if you get good enough to know what to expect. A lot of them are drivers I no longer use. Putters and midrange discs have stayed pretty consistent for me over the years, but I switch drivers all the time. So you end up with eight Eagles you never got around to throwing hanging around your house for ten years.
Is there a limit on how many discs you carry in a tourney??? Nope.

Thanks threputt that was helpful. I was curious about the bag limit for tourneys becase in golf you can only have 14 clubs including your putter. It would make sense to limit the # of discs allowed in discgolf too.

According to this site, I've got 13 bagged, including 4 putters, one other loose putter that I'd be happy to give away, and 4 discs lost. And man, I wish I had all four of the lost ones back, or really any one of them. ;(

I have around 60 or 70 total
With the lost ones counted, probably around 90
I carry around 20, just depends on how many my bag will hold. Usually 5 or 6 drivers, as many midranges that will fit, and 3 or 4 putt/approaches.

i've been playing around 2.5yrs now. i am a rec player at best, but i like to have a disc available when i need it, so i carry around 18-22 discs when i play. i carry 5-6 slightly to very overstable drivers, 5-6 slightly to very understable drivers, one old beat up DX valkerie that is an excellent roller disc, a couple of fairways drivers (1 overstable, 1 understable) and roughly 5-6 midrange discs ranging from very overstable to very understable. I also carry 2 putters, a pair of KCPro Aviars. I bought them new at the same time, same weight, and I alternate using them so that they wear evenly.
Granted, i have my favorites, and some discs i use more than others, but for me, i never know what type of shot i will need to play at any given time, so i like to keep a little of everything available.
i only own about 25 discs currently. i love to promote the sport, and try to get other people interested in it as well. when i have extra discs, i give them out to new players hoping that they will continue to take interest, and continue to learn more about this amazing sport!

About 150ish.

Maybe 250. Many have been lost or traded. Been playing about 5 years.
I can see wanting to have at least 20 you use regularly, but other discs you might want to have around for specific courses if you get good enough to know what to expect.
I only carry 10 discs with me. 2 putters, 3 midrange, the rest are fairway and distance drivers. I keep some backups in my car, and a few specialty discs that I use for extreme wind or rollers.
Is there a limit on how many discs you carry in a tourney???
There is no imposed limit.. I always carry the same number, and will typically use only 6 or 7 of my discs in a competitive round.

rofllama! the first step is admitting that you have a problem. Anyways, I currently own 39, I play 22 on most days, depending on the course I might play 15 or so. I have at least two of every disc, some three, from worn to new.

I own a shade over 200:
21 in my bag
~25 practice putters
~30 practice drivers
~30 backups of my favorites/out of production
~75 collector's
25 misc/experimental/for water holes, etc.
I have lost, sold, traded probably another 50 or so in my 12 years of playing.
I keep disc sellers on E-Bay in business!

Played for about 13 years and have about less than 100 in my stash. I usually carry less than 21 discs in my bag at any places I go.
I used to have more than 250 discs but realized that some of the discs are not good quality (scratched, stained, used, worn, marked, etc) or desirable (too many DX's) enough to be collectible and its taking up spaces and the discs are starting to deform from sitting there too long. So, I just give, give, give to many new players and traded with others as well. I never sold any of my discs for $$$, ever.

In the winter I work from home, so that is a problem, because I find myself checking for the mailman a few times a day and I know he comes sometime around 1:00. But I still might get up and check at 12:30 if I hear a loud truck on the east side of my house.
I am waiting on 5 used ones I bought off discaroo right now.
I have found ebay discs to be too expensive. People selling used ones end up getting bid up to 6 or 7 a piece, when I could buy them new for 7.49 on disc golf central, it's worth the extra money to get new in my opinion. The used ones on discaroo I am getting for like 3-5. I know they may be worn, but I just want to try out some different molds to see what I like.

I buy mostly Star & Champ on ebay, but there are some DX ones in my stash too. I average easily below $6 per disc including shipping. One trick is to find a seller with a lot of listings and willing to combine shipping. The other trick is to just be patient, set your max price, and eventually you'll probably get some good deals.
But you're right, I'm amazed at the prices some people pay for used (or even new) regular DX plastic on ebay; after shipping some of them are $10-12...

Just curious how many discs do you currently own?
~400
How many have you owned in your lifetime and how many years have you played???
I've played for 11.5 years, and I've probably been through ~1,000 discs in that time. When I started, I didn't know the etiquette for finding/returning discs, so I found a lot and gave a way a lot to new players. I also was friend's with the staff at the local Play-It-Again-Sports so I always got great deals on used discs and bought a ton that way in the early years. Then one year, a roommate and I used to buy and try one of every new mold that came out. But I've also worked hard to hook every friend I've got on disc golf, so I've literally given away probably 500-600 discs over the years, including ~100 my brother and I donated at one time a while back to a disc to a church that was doing some outreach at disc golf courses.
The reason I'm up to 400 now is that I don't get to play as often anymore, so I don't get to play with many new players or introduce nearly as many folks to the sport.
I can see wanting to have at least 20 you use regularly, but other discs you might want to have around for specific courses if you get good enough to know what to expect.
I usually have between 6 and 16 discs in my bag, depending on the round. I usually have 30-50 in the car that are a mix of backups and alternate discs, and discs that are ready to be given to other players. Recently, I've been getting my girlfriend started playing, so there is a box of my lightest drivers and a bunch of mids in the car so we can go out to a field and throw.
The discs at the house are ~15-20 wizards to practice putts. Then a lot of backups of discs I throw or old CE plastic I haven't made time to get rid of yet.
One of my goals is to reduce the collection, but it just takes time to do. I think it would be a good goal to cut it in half this year. I've been working on trading away discs I don't thrown and at least simplifying to molds I throw (or that will work for my girlfriend).
Part of the challenge is that many friends who play lose discs more often than I do, and I always try to keep backups around of their favorite discs so I can replace what they lose when needed.

Over fifty probably. I have played off and on for over 18 years. In 1998 I cut my carpal tunnel on my right hand with a grinder blade. The blade went through my glove so fast I had no time to react. The last ten years I have only played about two to three rounds a year because it hurt my wrist too bad. 2008 was my first year back without pain. I was blessed enough to win the Wooster,Ohio Ace race. I placed second and third in a couple of other tournaments, and got my first aces in my playing career. Hoover dam in Columbus,Ohio Hole #7 293 feet. What a rush. I never thought I could play again and now I'm back! Hole #9 At Deis Hill Park in Dover,Ohio. Hole #1 in canton,Ohio. And my latest ace was on the 5th of january of this new year. Hole # 5 at Deis Hill Park in Dover, ohio. I would say, keep only what you know in your bag. Practice with the others until you know them well enough for them to be apart of your arsenal. This game is great!

Well, one is technically enough. But most players have different discs for different types of shots. Understable drivers vs. overstable drivers. Really overstable drivers vs. mildly overstable drivers. Lighter Wraith for a tailwind drive vs. a heavy XCaliber for a headwind drive. Etc. etc. etc.
Then there are people who just like plastic... ;)

** I currently own about 380, have lost 3, and have given away/sold/traded over 600. I've probably been right at 1000 owned since I started. Been playing about 4.5 years(Started at age 38 - Wish I'd started younger).
I can see wanting to have at least 20 you use regularly, but other discs you might want to have around for specific courses if you get good enough to know what to expect.
** I carry 20 at a time - I essentially use 10 disc and I carry two of each. I'm a little (OK... a lot) obsessed with having PLENTY of backups of the stuff I like (I own 30 KC Pro Banshees). Lots of discs but not nearly as much variety as some others players. Banshees, Firebirds & Teebirds make up over 100 of my discs.
Is there a limit on how many discs you carry in a tourney???
** No - Limited only be what your back will support.

I carry 8 in my bag regularly.
I bought my daughter (11) a bag and set for Christmas. She will be carrying 6 in her bag.
My wife is resistant to having her own bag and carries whatever she feels like carrying from our spares. Though, she has developped a fondess for the Roc and some unlabelled tournament disc we bought in a clearance bin.
People I normally play with carry between 3 and 10 discs. But, none of us are that good to know what to do with more than a handfull. I only carry as many as I do to look cool.

If you play some wide open courses , you don't need many discs. If you play wooded or technical courses, you need more specialty discs. I carry 18, but I know what each one will do. I hit the practice field at least once a week, and check all my discs, and only use discs for certian shots.

I carry 18. Probably in a given round only 7-8 see their way out of the bag. The rest are backups in case I have an unpleasant experience with a water hole or some other means of disc loss. In the middle of a tournament, its not like I can run back to the car to grab a replacement.

I hit the practice field at least once a week, and check all my discs, and only use discs for certian shots.IMO, unless you're really good, specailty discs are a bad idea. They prevent you from learning skills which will greatly increase the number of shots you can perform. If you use specaitly discs for certian shots the number of lines you can throw will be limited by the number of discs you carry.
The advantage to carrying more discs for the average player is that you can have backups of really important discs and discs in various stages of wear for minor changes in high speed and/or low speed stability. No matter what anyone tells you, the difference between molds is much greater than the difference between discs in different stages of wear.

I carry about 22. (an innova competition bag that is stuffed) I have about 4 or 5 in my closet just in case. I guess over my 5 years of experience I have probably owned nearly 60 discs. If I stop using them, I typically sell them to Play-it-Again Sports or give them to noobs. I have probably lost about 8 discs in 5 years.
Each of the 22 that I carry is unique except that I have 2 SE Teebirds. One is made of plastic that feels slightly more like champion plastic so there is a slight difference. But I carry 7 distance drivers, 7 fairway drivers, 6 midranges and 2 putters. Most discs don't get used in a round but each disc has its own special purpose. For instance, I keep a star Gator with me...I rarely use it, but on an open hole where the wind cranks up, or a wooded hole with a short hard hyzer approach, that disc is money. Other than those two shots it never gets used, but I want to have it when I need those shots.

I'd say that I'm around 120 discs give or take <Including "trophy putters" that don't get thrown>. Out of those I may have bought about 30-40, the rest I got as awards, or "cashing out" at tournaments. I carry 22 discs in my bag, and like Z-man not all of them get used a lot, but there are certain shots, or distance, or hard turn etc.... that you just KNOW that one disc in your bag has the best chance of getting you there. If I find a certain disc/weight that just perfectly fits my throwing style, when I cash out again I make sure to get backups. So I have multiple backups for my "go-to" discs. When something new comes out, I wait until cashing out then I get one. I've probably also given away 50 or so to noobs, or used as CTP's to different tourneys or my Sat. am club. I very rarely lose discs, I think only 4 last year, so my backups are way more than I need...

I think we all have said that, but check back in another 6 months and see what you have. I am always looking for that driver that will go straighter or longer or the putter that will always go in! :) Especially if your friends get a new disc that makes them better, you want it too!!!
Also, when I find something I like, I buy several of them.
Plus all the companies keep making new models and plastics and copying each other. It reminds a little of how baseball cards went from 1 company pre 1981, 5 companies in the 80's, and then too many to count and collect in the 90's. The prices also went up sharply. And each company made several sets at various qualities (standard-premium). Sound like discs to anyone else?

I have been playing since the late 80's, something like 87 or so and have about 30 discs. I would have a lot more but I give away any discs I don't use to schools (our local Catholic school has a disc golf section in Phy Ed), people I meet on courses that don't have much or neighborhood kids ( and their partents)I have seen playing on a course or at the very least express interest.

30+ maybe 40 and counting. I've lost a few here and there (mainly to water hazards). My wife gets on to me everytime I make a purchase, questioning my need for another. I understand where she's coming from, but I just flat out enjoy discs. I've been known to give some away here in there, particularly to people who are new to the sport and don't have much to begin with. I just hooked up my buddy with a Boss because it proved to be too overstable for me. He's got quite the arm that I don't have. They're like women in that they come and go and yet you just can't seem to get enough of them.

I couldn't find where this had been posted before, so I thought I'd see how many discs people have lying around.
Being new to disc golf, I have 11 discs of varying molds, plastics, and weights.
Should I get more discs? (probably a dumb question :D)
How many discs do you actually use when you play 18 holes? (I usually use around 6)

This has been coming up a lot lately. 11 discs (assuming you have drivers, mid range and a putter) is more than enough to start with. I would recommend finding the ones you like the best, something stable and reliable, and trading the rest to get more of the disc you like. When your new you hardly need multiple molds in each class. Learn a few well and than move from there.

I got around 60 or so...about half found, half bought (maybe a little more bought these days...)
When I play a round I take 20-21. A lot of people don't like carrying that many. I do, but they certainly aren't 21 different molds. Three identical Voodoos, three predators, two stalkers (and a Teebird unless they prove they fly well in the wind), two surges, two buzzzes, an XL and XS (damn near the same till I beat in my XS), plus a couple that I have to try out, evaluate, and see if I want to replace any others.

I buy a lot of discs to try out, but only keep the discs I like the most. I find it's easier and adds to my consistency to focus on a smaller number of discs. I give away the discs that don't make it into my bag to my nephew or one of my beginner friends. So right now I own around 12 discs and some of those are duplicates.

I've posted this before, to the chagrin of other posters sometimes, but here's my $0.02:
If you are new to the game, you should be playing with two discs, that's it. One driver (preferably a mid-range because you don't throw hard enough to throw a distance driver), and a putter. You need to learn what ONE disc can do before you start throwing all kinds of different discs.
A common mistake newcomers to the game make is when they throw a disc, and it doesn't do what they want it to, their answer is to buy a new disc. Wrong approach. You need to learn all the different ways to throw one disc, and how that disc will behave in relation to the air it is traveling through (hyzer, anhyzer, fast, slow, turn and fade, etc.). Make a Shark behave if several different ways - learn how to manipulate that one disc, then start to think about how you would benefit from a disc that is more under or overstable, faster, slower, whatever.
The other thing you need to do is learn how to putt, and guaranteed: you don't know how to do it now. I think most DG'ers would agree - putting is a huge key to the game, and if you are missing putts from inside 20', practicing putting will improve your score more than new discs will. If you really want to buy discs, buy three more putters of the same model and weight so you can throw four times at the chains while practicing before retrieving your discs. :)
Finally, if I had it to do over, the first six months I played the game I would have played with two discs.

I've been playing for 6 months now, so I know for the most part which molds work for me at my level of play.
I use the Surge and Avenger SS for long drives, Cyclone for straight drives, Buzzz for mid-range, and a Soft Magnet for putting.
Given I'm not as experienced as most of you on the forums, but I still think I'm a little beyond playing with two discs. What I'm pulling as advice in this thread is that I should stick with the molds that I'm comfortable with instead of quantity of molds, so my next discs will probably be a (hard) Magnet, a higher plastic Cyclone (mine is DX), and another Buzzz.

I started much the same. I found that adding new discs slowly is key when getting more. Make sure you get the feel of them before giving up or trying a new mold. If you take the time to try and be good instead of just playing rec, I think anybody could have enough skill for 6 or 7 molds by the end of a season.

Luckily for me, the gf understands the plastic addiction, and has a minor one herself, so I don't get in trouble for having discs around everywhere. Most of them stay in the trunks of our cars though, as we take lots of friends out to play or drive to a practice field, and it's nice to have extras/loaners along. After dating a girl who is almost as into the sport as I am, I'm not sure I could be with someone who doesn't understand the addiction.

See, I disagree with Geoffro about the two disc learning method. That seems like a player who only throws on courses and does the occasional field work. That may be good for the average person, but what if you want to jump in with both feet.
I have been playing for a little over a month and have 12 different molds. I play practically every day and spend about five hours a week throwing in soccer fields.
I believe figuring out how to throw two discs every which way is good for learning the game, but it doesn't give you the experience of throwing different discs the same way (hyzer, anhyzer, fast, slow, turn, fade, rollers, tomahawks, thumbers) to see how they react. After a few rounds of throwing all of your discs a certain way (for example: hyzer shots), you will visually see which discs react better.
Plus, throwing 10+ discs in a field for an hour will net you more throwing experience than two because of all the retrieving.
After a month, I throw consistently 250' with a 300' ceiling and I have visually seen what I can get from each disc. I think having different molds of plastic have helped me develop my game and understanding of what the different discs have to offer.

Buying a ton of different molds <> jumping in with both feet
Quantity <> quality
Throwing tons of discs to maximize your throwing time and minimize your walking takes the importance off of each throw, which won't help you to truly develop proper form. You may think your practicing is helping you now, but it'll hurt your progress in the long run. But if you want to buy a ton of different molds at this stage of your game, please at least do it at a local store that supports the sport and not Dick's or some other chain. They'll appreciate the business.
For the record, I started with two discs and played multiple rounds daily, on top of field practice, on top of watching every disc golf video, instructional or not, I could find on the Internet, on top of reading every word on every disc manufacturer's website I could find. I did it for the love of the game, despite wanting to buy every disc I saw. I'd say this is a pretty common reaction from most people on here. On top of that, I wish I'd found this site back then.

Rough guess...about 200 or so. My "tourney bag" which is what I carry when I play has 22, I keep a bag in my vehicle that I take with me to tourneys that has about 30, that has backups to just about everything I throw, and more stable discs than I normally throw just in case it is tremendously windy and I need heavier/more stable. I have a bag of "retired" discs, that I used to throw, and changed out my bag, I have a "starter" bag with all light discs, and easy to learn with discs for anyone just learning and they have their own bag to play with for the day, then I also have a bag for my 5 year old son, and he is up to 6 or so now. Then I also have a few stacks of just oddballs...tourney winnings, players packs, etc...
As with most on here, my wife is NOT happy with my stash, but she does understand, and now that our son is getting more interested, she doesn't say too much when I bring home more plastic after a tourney. I have been trying more and more to use my tourney cashouts to get hats, shirts, etc..., but most places only have a few things other than discs, towels for example, and I currently have about 15 towels, so I'm stocked up on those...<and 6 hats as well>.

I just took an official count. I have 66.
I think that I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 120. Funny thing is that I only have eight or so discs with me out on a round and a couple of those are just back ups. The others are just stored at the house collecting dust, until I get motivated enough to sell or trade some of them.

For a while there I kept on buying and buying discs, primarily ones with which I could practice my backhand. I have since slowed down my purchasing and started working more on my form instead. I probably have about 50 discs. I probably use about 10 in any given round but keep about 18 in my bag in case of lost discs or unique situations.

I own 160 as of this morning. I probably was up to about 190 at the beginning of June. I want to get down to around 60 tops by the end of the year. I have been getting a lot of people started recently. I gave away 11 discs this week alone. The only sad part is I am pretty much out of putters and mids as freebies. I actually traded a couple discs to get a couple of putters just to have giveaways down the road. I just need to figure out my distance driver situation and a lot of my stuff can go. The other issue I have is I actually throw 4 different midrange and the fiance throws 2 different mids than I do. That makes 6 different mids and backups. I want to cut at least one out, but i cannot at the moment. All four I use right now for different shots that they actually all are amazing for.

The other 62 are extra putters and various mids and drivers that I sometimes use as trading fodder.

How many discs do I own?
219 listed in my disc profile...
plus 16 Gateway Magic practice putters
plus 11 Gateway Rage thumber/flick/tomahawk practice drivers
plus 13 Quest AT T-Bone practice drivers
plus 3 used Discraft drivers I just picked up from eBay (Z-Surge, Z-Crush, Z-Predator)
that makes 262 discs.
I use about 75 that I rotate through, depending on the course, and some of those are back-ups.
I have about 75 that I would love to sell or trade off (not marked on my disc profile, yet).
I have about 50 that I have put aside for sale (these are marked in my disc profile)
I have about 50 that I use for field practice.
Lastly, I have 15 or so practice putters (You know, Perfect Putt 360)
I don't have many bad habits, but disc collection is one of them.
I usually carry around 20 discs when I play, and another 40 in the truck in case I lose one or wnat to use something different for wind, etc.

Including the discs I bought for my girlfriend, I own about 110 golf discs. I presently throw only 6 or 7 molds and have a rotation of about 25 discs that I use at any given time. Having purchased/ won a bunch of discs I don't really use allows me to help bring other people into the game by giving them good discs to start playing with. You know, "Here is a Boss, X-caliber and destroyer for you to drive with. This is a monarch and this is a groove. These are midrange discs, you can tell because of this channel under the rim. Don't worry about putting. Its really easy and practice is very overrated."

Elite Z Buzzz (straight short holes)
Elite X Buzzz (beat in for turn overs)
ESP Meteor (holds any line i put on it)
ESP Banger GT (long approaches, drives)

This is only my second summer playing and so far I have owned about 55-60 discs thanks to a $200 gift card to Johnny Mac's and 4 disc for the price of 3 deal during the winter. I bought every disc I could, owned about 90% of all the Innova Discs, then I quickly figured out that there was only about 20 of them that I actually had the arm to throw, so I started trading them on DGCR and Discaroo. So now I probably have closer too 45, but I only use about 20, the others go to my friends when they want to play. I carry 14-16 discs in my bag and usually throw anywhere from 5-12 of them in a day.

This guy is young (20) and he seems like a natural. He can putt pretty good, and his drives are really looking good. We spent 2 hours at the practice field Wednesday, and today I am talking him to the course for the first time. I am waiting for him to get here as we speak. I think he is going to do well. We are going to a 9-hole course that is quite easy. I think that is the best way to start a beginner.

We played two rounds tonight. 9 from the short tees, and 9 from the longs. Springdglover met us down there, and we met a couple of other friends and had a great time. My friend had a blast and did really well. On hole number 4 he nailed a 110ft putt. It was awesome to see, and it was his first birdie. I wish I had video taped that shot, because he used a DX Coyote and it just went straight as an arrow right to the basket.

I own about 20, and carry 14 on a normal round.
1 putter(Aviar),
2 midranges(Skeeter, Panther),
4 fairway drivers(2 eagles, gazelle, leopard),
7 distance drivers(orc, 2 wraiths, valk, 2 sidewinders, destroyer)
I am usually swapping out drivers as I recieve/buy/trade for new ones, and the midrange/putters usually stay put. I cycle my valks, sidewinders and destroyers so that they wear the same and will act similar if I happen to lose one. But I believe in carrying the maximum that my bag can hold. It gives me the most options on the course.

11 med bag (water backups/expieramentals)

14 - Exactly enough for my bag, plus one that i want to find a use for, but is overlapped.
I find a lot of discs and give away a lot of discs.
I dont have the space or inclination to keep a stack of discs. I'd rather help someone else with their game by bestowing them one of my discs and explaining to them how to use it properly. To me, this helps the entire "collective" as the community gets better.
To me, consistency is the most important part of my disc collection. I throw my discs in a field (about) once a week to make sure they throw correctly (as expected). If i find one does not, i replace it.
My latest experiment (when i dont want a disc anymore) is to throw my discs deep into the course and see if anyone will call me to return them. If someone does call (only 25% of the time) i "stoke" their day by giving them the found disc.

My thoughts exactly.
When I started playing, I used to buy discs by the lot on eBay. I noticed pretty quick that some discs flew well and some didn't, and not always the way the "flight chart" said they should.
Then I bought a few collectibles.
Then I traded with a buddy.
Then I discovered PIAS.
Then I bought some practice discs.
Then I found DGCR.
Along the way I gained some distance, so I bought new discs to match my power.
And it goes on and on....
I don't lose many discs. I'm kind of a fanatic about finding them.
I try to return the ones I find.
Presently I'm a little over 300.

mmm i have a quiver of about 20, but only use 10 or so on a regular basis. the others are for different courses and conditions. i have a similar ritual to what dj does...take all my drivers out to a field and throw them to make sure their line is true...like a calibration process.
that said, im more prone to learning what the discs i love are doing differently and adapting as opposed to retiring the disc. ill give the disc away to one of my noob friends if the disc doesnt have a place anymore, which happens once every month or so.

So I am up to 28 and am only carrying 8
I likely will work some back in here and there depending on the course. Typically water hazaards brings the DX out, and some of the others, while not the same mold, are similar enough for spares. I just like to try different discs.

Bag is at 14 discs, about 9 molds. I have 4-6 of each mold for backup and practice purposes, plus a crap load of putters and mids. A few specialty discs (overstable mids, roller discs) I also have some higher speed distance drivers that I'm hanging on to, when the time comes. Then there are a few that I did use, but don't right now, but may switch back to. Some will eventually get traded and sold.
Also, a few of those are CFR Rocs and cool Tie Dyes that may just turn into decorations...

I suppose I should qualify this. We, my gf and I, have 61 discs. She carries 5-8 in her bag, I carry 8-12. The others are kept in a plastic tote in the trunk.
The discs I'm going to buy are colored to replace the white discs I'm currently carrying. There is a little snow on the ground in places and soon it we'll be covered in the white stuff. Then of course there are the new molds I want to try.

How many have you owned in your lifetime and how many years have you played???
I can see wanting to have at least 20 you use regularly, but other discs you might want to have around for specific courses if you get good enough to know what to expect.
Is there a limit on how many discs you carry in a tourney???

6. 4 drivers & 2 putters. Of course, I've been playing less than 6 months, and feel I should work my technique with what I've got. Given time I'm sure I'll wind up with more, but I want to be able to stick everything I have before I start getting more.

I currently own around 45. I have probably owned between 100-150 over the last 6 years. Between losing them and giving them away to new people I am down to 45. I have about 22 in my bag.

I've been playing about 5 months, and I've owned around 30 discs. I've lost 14, and traded probably 5 or 6. I currently own 10.

7 + 3 mini's. I will have more after X-mas. At my peak I had around 20... mostly Tee-birds, Panthers, Sharks, & Aviars.

I think i'm sitting around 50-55 on the shelf and 19-20 in the bag, most of the shelved ones i found out on courses or underwater, most of the bag ones i bought. I have given a lot of discs away, mostly to my friends, several of my buddies are currently throwing discs i wrote my name on when they were mine. I would very much like to give away discs i don't use to new players, but i do not run into them all that much, and usually when i do see kids playing out on the course, i see them do something that pisses me off so then i forget all about solidifying the future of the sport.
Every fall i make a habit of stopping in the middle of a round, zipping my bag shut, and digging through the worst shule or grass i can find, looking for discs. This year alone i have found at least 15, best was 6 in one hour. I have specific areas on specific courses where i do this, and timing is important because you have to get there right as soon as the rough is dying, and discs become visible, but if you wait too long other people find them and pickings become slim.
I would be all about trading, but i dislike internet transactions involving mail, so it would have to be local players and in person.

I have 43 that I play with, practice with, or lend out. I have another 5 on the wall. My wife knows I have a bunch, but not how many. She would kill me if she did the math to find a total cost to this "free" sport (i.e. discs, gas, bag, tournament, shoes, etc.). I love it just the same and it is not going anywhere.
Haha. I don't tell my gf when I buy discs. When she asks me about one that she's never seen I kind of shrug it off. My friends usually blow my cover.
You know, she wants that whole ring thing... Oh well.

Okay, I have
16 Discs (9 drivers, 4 Mids, 2 Putters, 1 classic Discraft Phantom+). Lost 6;Given away 2, None returned. I usually carry 12 discs in my current bag. I am that type of person that will buy a disc, even if I don't really need it. My wife helps me limit that compulsion though! ;) ...For what it's worth, I do have 1 Star Jack o latern Boss that I got in my very first tourney. I won't use it, I placed High enough to actually win something, it's my trophey! I also have 2 ultimate frisbees, one is lighted. Very cool!

17 Drivers
4 Midrange
16 Putters
I live in a place without a permanent Disc Golf Course and no local shops. I started by buying starter sets for 4 people to play, then a DGA Lite basket, then I started adding misprint discs to try out different discs, then I bought multiples of drivers and putters for practice for myself and my girlfriend...
In the end, I only play with what fits in my starter bag 5-10 discs, which includes 2 putters, 1 midrange, 2 drivers I know how to throw, and whatever discs I want to experiment with.
My efforts did pay off. Four different friends did go out and buy their own sets. Amazing, since they only play with me. But nobody uses the bags. They all would rather just carry the discs.

I have about 14, 7 of which found, and I've had about 20 total. I've only bought about 11 of the discs I've ever owned, and this is all in 6 months. after christmas, thats gonna go up another 6 (I've got the snap and stuff down, now i"m feeling around for what I like before I get multiples). I'd say that I'd carry about 15 to my first tourney.
