So, I have been using the vacant lot next to my house for DG practice. Using Google Earth, I have mapped out 27 holes. The problem is that the shots are too open.
Here is part of the field:

I am solving this problem by widening a game trail in the woods.
Here is a shot from ~10' in front of the tee:

Here is a shot looking into the clearing that I will use as a green:

I estimate the hole to be somewhere between 150' and 200'. The fairway can't be much more than 8' wide at its narrowest. It curves from right to left.

Questions:
Is this too tight?
Should I shorten up the hole to compensate for how narrow it is?
If I was to widen the fairway, what would be the minimum width to make this a legit hole? (I want to cut as little as possible)

So, what do you guys think. Would this be a good hole?

I'll try to get some better pictures and will measure tonight.

It looks like fair game to me, but most of our local courses look a lot like that ;)

Right on. I have been using the field for DG since it warmed up around here. I only started the tunnel hole this week. I'll have to go out there with some putters and see if I can get all the way through to the green.

Edit: sorry couldn't link the photo, that I wanted

Well, I went out and measured the tunnel hole today. It works out to be either 135' or 145', depending on where I put the basket. Oh, and the pinch points are about 6' wide. I am considering moving the tee back and to the left a little.

6-8' seems pretty tight. My local course has a lot of 10' fairways, and it can be kinda brutal. But several of those holes are 400+ feet.

But with the shorter hole length, and the fact that it's just a "temp" hole on land you don't even own, I'd say it's fine. :)

Yeah, the whole freebie nature of the thing makes it easier. I have nobody to impress, and the only ones to ever see the thing will be friends or neighborhood kids. I think I can widen the major pinch point out to about 8'.

I want it to be tight, but I don't want random, pinball-style golf.
