Anybody seen any kids tournaments? My 11 year old son would like to play in some and wondered if anybody knows if there is such a thing geared to youngsters.

See if your local YMCA or other rec. org. wants to start clinics/tourneys/leagues. One of our club members leads groups from the Y at one of the local beginners courses. Keep growin' the sport.

South Carolina does a "Juniors Championship", ususally held in Easley SC <Near Clemson> in or around March every year. It is a fantastic environment for kids as it is competitive, but also just geared for fun. It is broken into boys/ girls and age division. Almost every group goes out with an experienced adult to both supervise/coach, and of course parents are welcome to "caddie" for their child. EVERYONE walks out a winner getting discs/teeshirts/etc.... This year should even be bigger/better as they finally have permanent short teepads in. It will not be posted yet, but the website that will have info is SCDGO.net, or upstatediscgolfclub.com
Saw that you were in Ga., and not sure how far that would be for you, but it usually is a great event!

Tyler State Park (PA) hosts a junior tournament each year. It more focused on teaching kids proper DG techniques and then they play a round of DG.
Check it out (http://www.bcdga.com/2009/events/SQ106JuniorJamFlyer09.pdf)

I know Creekside DGC (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=475) in Pa also host a juniors tournament. Check out their website (http://www.creeksidediscn.org/) for the Junior Jam on August 8.

I wish you could have made it to Millidgeville this weekend. The ice bowl was about 50% Juniors. The course designer teaches at the Middle School and has a great group of kids. They raised a grand for Meals on Wheels through the middle school disc golf club.

Last year there was a Junior's Triple Crown series but I think the third event was canceled. I have not seen any info for this year.

I thought that Oregon Park had a solid Junior participation but I could be wrong.

Try contacting the local tourney cordinators prior to the event and ask them, they just might add a division for you.

He can always play in the recreational divisions in any tournament. Ace races are a fun, casual event that young people can easily play in. Also, I have a 11 yr old cousin that loves to play and we could meet up for a fun round sometime.

See if your state has State Games and has disc golf as an event. Here in NC there are usually a bunch of kids that come out for it.

In case you are still interested, SC is holding it's Junior Championships April 4 this year in the upstate of SC near Clemson. It is broken down into age categories for both boys and girls.Cost is only $10.00 and includes a disc, tee-shirt, and lunch. Info is available at SCDGO.com, and click under "other tournaments". It's at a new course this year in Walhalla, which I've not played yet, but should be a great time for all!

Don't most tournaments have a Junior Division for kids 14 and under, and then one for kids 9 and under?

Most do, the one that I posted is for juniors ONLY. And there will be at least one adult player with each group to help with any questions, help keep score, etc... This is to try and help get kids interested in the game, and of course have fun!
