View Full Version : Tournaments/Events
You may have noticed that there are now Upcoming Events listed with each course. You can check out a good example here (http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=475). The short answer to how it works is the site syncs with the calendar here in the forums. It will only show upcoming/current events and only 5 at a time. The event listings on the course pages are updated once a day at midnight eastern time so it won't instantly show up on there after you add it to the calendar. If you need the event reflected on the course page ASAP just send me a PM and I can get the calendar synced up with the site earlier.
If you would like your event to be associated with a course and actually have it show up on the course page you MUST click one of the Add Event buttons on that course page.
If you don't need your event associated with a certain course then just go to the Calendar page and you can add your event through there as usual.
I've already updated all the upcoming events with course associations so those are good to go. If anyone has any questions or suggestions please let me know :)
I've updated the course and map browsers so you can show only courses that have upcoming events. Using that in conjunction with zip code and/or state fields will allow you to see courses near you with upcoming events.

I'm trying to submit an event that is taking place at 3 courses over 2 days, but it isn't allowing that. Is there a way to make this happen?
Unfortunately you can only associate one course with each event which was actually a design decision I made to keep it as simple as possible for people to submit events.
What you could do is submit your event as 3 separate ranged events split between the 3 courses if you know the times. It's not the most elegant solution but it should work.
If it becomes a major sticking point I could have the event submitted for one "main" course and then have a textbox where you could enter the course id's of the other courses the event is taking place at. It wouldn't take me long to put that together but I think it might have the potential to be a little confusing to some people. What do you think?
Also, are a lot of tournaments/events held at multiple courses?
I added the feature mentioned in my last post. Towards the bottom of the Add Event form you'll see a box for "Additional courses this event is taking place at". As the name implies, this will allow you to submit one event to multiple courses. It's not as straight-forward as I would like it to be (it'll require a bit of legwork for you guys to get the course id's) but it's the best I could do. There are some instructions there that I hope are pretty clear. If anybody has any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
FYI, you can also go back and edit the additional courses for your events. You can't change the main/parent course though. If you want to change that you'll have to delete and recreate the event.
The courses an event is taking place at will now be listed when viewing the event info as well. It uses to just say "View this course!" but with multiple courses or even just a single one I thought it would be nice to see the course name there rather than generic text so I ended up getting that working tonight too.

Most of the Tournies in our area use two or three of the local courses. So I added the other two courses and they show up on the main course info, but not on the other two courses event info?
I'll run the event syncing script right now. Normally it runs once a day around midnight to get the site up to date with the calendar.
I'm planning on adding events to the home page soon and I'm going to have a "View All" option there. Just curious if you guys would prefer a list style view of the events with the name, etc. or if it would be cool to just link to the course browser and have only the courses with upcoming events show.
The benefit of the latter is that you have all sorts of filters you can apply as far as state, # of holes, distance from your zip code, etc but you wouldn't see the event names/dates until you clicked the course. The list view would show event names, etc. but you wouldn't have as many options for filtering (probably only state).
Editing Events:
I've noticed a lot of people just adding new entries for an event rather than editing the existing event already on the calendar. When you do that it ends up being a little confusing since it looks like there are multiple events taking place on one day when it is in fact one event.
If you'd like to add more information to an event you've submitted to the calendar, just choose the day the event you entered is taking place, find your entry, and in the bottom right corner you'll see a drop down box that says "Event Options". Just click that, choose "Edit Event" and then go from there.
