There is a park going in around where i live, Lancaster PA. Me and some friends have talked to the board about putting a course in but there funds are very low. Anyone have ways to put in a decent course under like 3 grand possible? we have plans to get free carpet pads and we can make the signs, but the baskes are the issue. any ideas?

If it's an 18 hole layout, you could probably get the first 9 baskets for that 3 grand, and put in cheap homemade tone targets for the rest of the course. Hold a few fund raising tournaments to build up a basket fund and replace the targets with baskets as you get the money.

Have fundraiser events, utilizing objects or temp baskets on the course-to-be. Sell lunch & have side events to raise more ca$h. Make it known that pros donating back their prizes is certainly welcome & encouraged. Sell CFR discs and/or other schwag.

We averaged $1000 (basically 3 baskets) per 1-day event when in the process of installing Pratt Park's course using the above formula.

Get 9 nice baskets.

Hold a bunch of fund raisers and buy the other 9.

Maybe even start with something like discatcher sports to get the whole thing in.

Ask local businesses to donate $$, they can be noted on the tee signs.

We just did the very thing in our town. We went to the local district council and got approved for 1500 of town money. The Ski Hill we put the course on put in 1000. We "sold" 18 holes for 200 bucks each for advertisers... We got a great deal on 18 baskets from Mike Moss in Washington and met him halfway to cut costs on shipping. Great guy and great baskets I might add! Some of the "sold" holes we took "in kind" for gravel for tees, wood for teepads, excavator use, cement...etc.

It really doesn't take a lot of money, but a lot of effort. Good on you guys! I know exactly how it goes..lol

Thinking out loud here: Would it work to get 9 baskets initially and alternate them hole-by-hole on the course with posts (landscape timbers or 4x4's with rounded edges) as targets? That way the whole course would get play, people could really see what they were missing......and be reminded of it every other hole. You could even put a little sign/plaque on each post asking for sponsorship money. Ditto with concrete and gravel tees.

Great idea, then you don't just have people playing the basket half of the course and not really caring about the other side. You could even leave some of the most fun holes with a post so that players would be more motivated to help get baskets in for the signature shots.

Course Grand-Opening Tournament? Ask local businesses if they would like to sponsor a hole, that way the course gets a basket and they get advertising? Have every $1 out of $5 in leagues go towards the course?

Here is just a thought, take it or leave it. Have you looked around online? I know this might be tricky, but sometimes you can find baskets for sale. There was a privately owned course here in South Carolina, that ended up selling all of their baskets to another course. You could also look into cheaper baskets, like the discatcher lite. It's not spectacular, but it could tide you over until you raised some money to buy more. There is also Instep baskets, which are usually cheaper. I'm not a fan, but hey... you've got to do what you've got to do.

Another thought. Offer local businesses to sponser a hole. Find out how much it would cost to install each hole, then offer the business an advertisement on the hole they've sponsored. Like an ad next to the tee sign. Sometimes, they might buy two. Even a restaurant might get in on it, by offering free drinks if you bring in your scorecard. Just some thoughts I've had.

This is good idea, but just make sure you clear the sponsorship things with the park district. Some do not want that kind of signage in their parks.
