The site just broke 1000 reviews today!
Thanks to everyone for contributing your thoughts, pictures, files, links, and making the site a success.
I can't speak for anyone else but I've found the information to be invaluable while planning my latest road trip.
Thanks again everyone! :D

Indeed! Looks like a lot of new members joined recently, too. It 's kind of ironic that the site seems to be taking off right now, even as many of the courses are covered in snow. Looks like the best is yet to come.
The influx of new members may have had something to do with the recent PDGA newsletter :)

The influx of new members may have had something to do with the recent PDGA newsletter :)
I didn't renew this year, so I no longer get the newsletter. What did it say? Did it say anything about the PDGA Course Evaluation program?

the newsletter had an ad at the bottom:
"Disc Golf Course Review is the fun, easy way to...
Find, View and Review disc golf courses!
Track courses you've played and want to play!
Track round scores and details!
Share and promote upcoming events!
With thousands of course pictures, player reviews, and extensive course information it has never been easier finding a great place to play a round!"
Another milestone hit tonight.. 1000 members! :D

Averaging 12+ reviews a day over the past two months seem like a pretty good pace. :)
We have over 2100 reviews now. I missed the magic 2000 number.. must have happened some time last week. There are also almost 1800 rounds recorded and 3200+ discs being tracked.
I need to put together some sort of stats page at some point now that the stats are respectable :)
Stat update for those interested.

Nope, still 13 to go. The id # doesn't reflect the actual number of reviews since when I delete a review if someone messed up, etc. the id's don't go down.

How interesting is it that we have more courses than the PDGA listing of 2669?
DGCR does have a bunch of courses that aren't in the PDGA directory and there's also the fact that I split up a lot of parks with multiple courses (ie. Codorus) where the PDGA will keep it listed as one course.

Season, plus recent advertisements in PDGA newsletters.
I played four courses on a trip to Ohio last week and two of them had DGCR flyers posted on their info boards! That was cool to see. :D
I was probably the one that posted the flyers :)

Then you'll probably be happy to know they're still there two months later. :)
Just passed 4000 reviews either yesterday or today.. currently at 4030. There are also well over 12,000 course photos, 2900+ courses and 5600+ rounds. Plus the forum seems to be pretty busy now as well and I find myself on here constantly checking for new posts and wasting time at work :) It's really cool to see how much it has grown in 1.5 years.
Thank you to everyone that has helped make this site as useful as it is today.

discgolfersr.us vs. dgcoursereview.com
winner- dgcoursereview.com
The sites focus on different things, social networking vs. the whole course directory/review/scoring thing I have happening here. So it's not really fair to compare them directly plus I don't want to start an us vs. them thing. I think both sites do what they set out to do rather well.

Getting a traffic boost from the fact that the PDGA's directory is down and they're sending people here instead?
I'm definitely seeing a noticeable bump in traffic. A lot of new people are discovering the site through that link which is great. Hopefully we'll get a lot of reviews and photos for courses that don't currently have any and more opinions on existing courses.

Wow, less than two weeks and there are 500+ more discs on the site, 600+ more rounds and 200+ more reviews.
Also, on a side note, I am working on hole-by-hole score stats broken down by tee. Everything from average score to number of birdies to the number of penalty shots. The hard part is almost done (figuring out how to record all that information) and the slightly less but still challenging part of how to display it all is still ahead but I have some ideas on how to set it up so I'm hoping next week you'll be able to see that information for all the courses.

And think of all the rounds recorded on courses that don't have the distances recorded.
That's a big pet peeve of mine, actually... whenever I play a new course I do everything within my power to try and track down the stats for the course. Sometimes they just flat-out don't exist.

I have a measuring wheel in my car and truck at all times (need it for landscaping) so I am considering measuring after a round if the distances arent there. I am surprised not more has been uploaded tot his site even. The easy ones that have maps or scorecards are easy, but the ones with the distances just on tee signs, all that needs to be done is written down as yo score.
I have already done a few in my area.

Yeah, I write down the distances off tee signs. I don't have a measuring wheel, but I've considered getting one... just need to keep an eye on craigslist I guess. Are they pretty accurate? How do you measure holes where there's a big dogleg?

Measuring wheels new can cost between $25-50 for non digital ones. Digital ones are a lot more expensive and not worth it. The only drawback to the measuring wheel versusa gps is that if it is on rolling terrain you will get bad numbers. It follows the ground where the GPS is distance in the air in a straight line. Now if all you do is throw rollers then it the wheel will work just fine for all circumstances.
You could also use a laser range finder.. I believe that's what ERicJ uses.

Yeah, I thought about that, but they're waaayyy out of my price range. I'm thinking $15 or $20... something I can throw in the back of my truck and forget about til I need it. Not $300 or $400 and having to worry about it being stolen or broken.

The Laser kicks butt for almost all measuring needs. If you can see the basket it's the only method that will give you a distance from the tee in under one second. No need to walk the distance like with a wheel or GPS. It also hangs on your belt and doesn't require any really additional effort to carry like a wheel. But as you say Greg, it all comes at a trade-off of price. The Nikon Monarch 800 that I've got now goes for $200-$230 best price on ebay.

I bought the cheapie wheel at Lowe's for about $30. It seems to be fairly accurate....It's small enough to just clip right to my bag, so I take it almost everywhere (except Avalanche Park, where I really needed it for the back 9).
I've been measuring and ortho mapping every course we play with missing distances or no maps.

Kevin, that is step #2 in my plan. After I have all of the distances recorded I will be figuring out a way to make it work. I am hoping there will be sign sponsorship involved, but I am mostly concerned with finding a way to have signs that either wont get vandalised, broken or stolen. If it is a notorious course for vandalism or theft, they will get something simple and cheap (maybe like dretzkas winter signage, simply stating the distance and Hole #.
Regardless if the signs go in the ground or not, each area should have a statistical record keeper, and since I enjoy numbers and like knowing the distances I am volunteerung for S. E. WIsconsin. I will probably measure most courses I play if distances arent listed somewhere already. I hope each disc golf club could nominate one person to do this. Half of the battle is getting the distances, the next part of the battle is figuring out a way to make the signs, but noone will think to have the signs made if the distances are never taken down.

If it is a notorious course for vandalism or theft, they will get something simple and cheap (maybe like dretzkas winter signage, simply stating the distance and Hole #.
Have you got a link to demonstrate what you mean (or where the signs are placed)? I did a search for it, but it only showed your message here.
I'd like to help install some signs for my fave local course, but no budget. I don't think vandalism will be a problem, but I'd like to make sure that if we install some, they will remain there to help people for the long term.
As for "Next Tee" signs, I'm thinking just bring a step ladder to put them way up high on a tree will discourage any idiots from tearing them down.
I hope each disc golf club could nominate one person to do this.
Good idea! I'll volunteer to do this for my local club. Any other takers? :)
Half of the battle is getting the distances, the next part of the battle is figuring out a way to make the signs, but noone will think to have the signs made if the distances are never taken down.
We got the distances and all of our local courses have signs except one. I'm working on that, but most members want cement tee pads for back 9 FIRST! I helped get 2 of those in, so 11 holes down and only 7 yet to go.
We really need some next tee arrow signs, which should be very simple.

Out of all those reviews... how many do you think are truly valid?
I've read some reviews that perhaps should just be removed.
Do you just let them pile up so you can have a big number of reviews?
If some are (clearly) bogus, do they count?

Why so negative? I am sure there are a couple reviews that are not valid but the vast majority have arguably helpful information for those interested in playing the course.

I wonder what user has the biggest contribution of reviews, rounds, discs and photos???? I know I have a high disc count and review contribution but I bet I havent loaded more than 50 photos since my digital camera went down (my phone camera sucks). Plus I know I have about 260 rounds posted this year.
I'm sure it is timg in photos. He has uploaded tons of photos (many of them taken from other sites). I have not done anything even close to an intentional survey, but my impression in just looking at the photo credits is that he has done at least half of them.
To me, the pictures are the by far the single best feature added to the course listings. I much prefer looking at pictures than reading reviews.
Dave is probably right on the pictures front. People email me a lot of pictures as well if they don't have accounts or have trouble resizing, etc. so I end up uploading stuff like that quite often.

I was curious (and bored), and was wondering the impact of trusted reviewers on the numbers.
There are 160 trusted reviewers (109 Bronze, 28 Silver, 23 Gold).
There are 4992 reviews by them.
So, 1/3 of the of the reviews are done by trusted reviewers. That is pretty good IMO.

It's too bad I didn't keep track of scores, it would be cool to have all 961 rounds I've played entered here on the site. I've only kept track of rounds played and best scores per course rather than full scores, and now I regret that.

I'm not sure what you mean here. I think it's cool that so many of the reviews are by people that other users of the site have found to be helpful reviewers, that should help keep the ratings and reviews accurate and useful, and give a better baseline for new members.

I decided to breakdown your stats a little more. Using the 15591 of total reviews on this site:
109 Bronze Members - 1950 Reviews = 12.5% total reviews.
28 Silver Members - 1130 Reviews = 7.2% total reviews.
23 Gold Members - 1912 Reviews = 12.3% total reviews.
Member search brings up 8752 total members on the site.
109 Bronze Members = 1.2% of total members
28 Silvers Members = 0.32% of total members
23 Gold Members = 0.26% of totals members
Okay, so basically one 1/4 of a percent of members have written over 10% of reviews on this site. I think that's pretty cool.

We are also only about 90 votes from what I assume will be our first diamond reviewer. The Valkyrie Kid. I already conceeded to him the other day, but I am still making a push to get near the top. I expect to have about 20-25 more courses played between Christmas and February with my month of vacation towards Florida and a business trip back to KY. I should also be hitting a few of the better known courses from this site so my vote tally should go way up.

Yeah, but it also gets less hits due to the lack of activity, people are more likely to be out playing rather than sitting on the site like we all tend to do on weekday evenings.

I will say this, I had already uploaded a bunch of pictures and stuff. The achievement Disc Medal really made me look at it as an accomplishment. The Silver Photo Disc is in my sights! For a long time my goal was to catch up to you on reviews, and keep up with you on courses played, then Ashleigh and I got in better shape and started being able to get through a bunch of courses in a day, and the rest is history.
Here's another fun stat, diamond reviewers account for more than 3.7% of all the reviews on the site, and gold and diamond reviewers together account for about 23% of the reviews.

3.7% increase in the number of courses over a two month period? Wowzas. If that growth remains consistent, we'll have over 5,500 courses by next August.
I'm counting extinct listings in that total. It's just a count of all course listings in the databse. Active (non-temp, non practice) courses is at 4166. On an average week, there are probably 3-5 new courses added (sometimes more).
